Dakota Fanning And Tom Sturridge To Play Lovers In Effie

Dakota Fanning and Tom Sturridge will play lovers in the Emma Thompson-penned film Effie. The movie tells the tale of Euphemia Gray‘s (Fanning) torrid marriage to famous critic John Ruskin, to be played by Greg Wise. Ruskin refused to consummate their relationship, claiming he was grossed out by Effie’s body (er, weirdo) and she eventually falls in love and marries Ruskin’s protege, painter John Everett Millais (Sturridge). According to Deadline Hollywood, production begins October 17th, which means we’ve only got two months left until Tom shaves that dead wolf off his face! *cheers*

Extensive research (Wikipedia) reveals that this true story was massive scandal in Victorian England. Effie’s decision to annul her marriage even resulted in the Queen banning her from attending official Royal events. Harsh! But she clearly made the right decision: she and Millais went on to have eight children and she was an enormous influence on his artwork.

Knowing all this, we can’t wait to see this love triangle play out onscreen. With The King’s Speech becoming last year’s little movie that could, we have high hopes for every low budget film that comes from across the Atlantic. Effie is costing just $10 million to make, which is next to nothing in Hollywood. Sounds like a future festival darling to us — what do you think?

Whoa! Is Carey Mulligan Engaged To Marcus Mumford?

British pixie dream girl Carey Mulligan has had her share of famous loves over the past year, including Shia ‘The Beef” LaBeouf and Tom “Crazy Beard” Sturridge. But now the Daily Mail is reporting that she is engaged to Mumford and Sons songster Marcus Mumford…after only dating for five months! Girl, back it up a step. The two met at a Mumford gig in Nashville this February, and she accompanied them on a portion of their tour across America in a vintage train. Ahh, we can’t take the throwbacky preciousness!

According to the article, the question was popped in an expensive English seaside hotel, and Carey spent the trip showing guests her massive engagement rock. “Carey looked like the cat who had got the cream,” says one guest. “She was wearing a beautiful ring and didn’t seem to mind who saw it. They were stuck to each other like glue. She was doing most of the talking and he was hanging on her every word.” If all this is true, Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard have serious competition for their “Ultimate Twee-Couple” crown.

Kristen, Sienna, Tom And Garrett Hobo It Up In London

Robert Pattinson missed out on all the fun last night. Girlfriend Kristen Stewart joined her On the Road co-star, Garrett Hedlund, Rob’s BFF/OTR star Tom Sturridge and his lady-friend Sienna Miller for dinner at St. Johns in London, followed by drinks at The Groucho Club. The group split up at around 2:50 AM, with Kristen hopping into a car with her hunky bodyguard (call us) in tow.

Oh, the things we love about this night out. We love that Kristen is still wearing those blue sneakers and that she seems to be immune from getting blisters from wearing sneakers without socks. We love that Garrett is a new member of Team Hobo, what with his cap, Chucks and ratty jeans. We love the raccoon that died and went to heaven on Tom’s face. We love his Lady Gaga t-shirt. We even love everything about Sienna’s outfit. The only thing we hate is the absence of a crucial member of the clique. Maybe they Skyped him in from Toronto?

Will Robert Pattinson Play Jeff Buckley In Biopic?

Every time someone utters the words “Jeff Buckley biopic” our 15-year-old self sighs deeply and weeps into her flannel shirt. In case you grew up after the Decade the Music Died – aka the mid-90s – Jeff Buckley was a shaggy haired, bony hunk with an angel’s voice, who was destined to save post-grunge rock n’ roll (listen to “Last Goodbye” below). He released one amazing album, Grace, and then tragically and bizarrely drowned in a river while on tour in 1997, crushing the music n’ makeout-filled dreams of every depressed teenage girl lurking around her local Orange Julius with a Discman in hand. A Buckley biopic has been talked about for yearsssssss, but now there’s a director attached – the very likable Jake Scott, who most recently worked with Kristen Stewart, Melissa Leo and James Gandolfini in Welcome to the Rileys.

Robert Pattinson is rumored to be into the part and he’d be an interesting choice, because Pattinson can sing – and play guitar – quite well. Like, for reals. And with production set to start in the fall, he may be able to squeeze it in between shooting Cosmopolis in the summer and promoting Breaking Dawn come October/November. (And yes, Jake has directed Rob’s girlfriend, so it’d be all cute and family-ish.)

Serial Dater Carey Mulligan Reportedly Seeing Marcus Mumford

Carey Mulligan has made quite an impression on her fellow British countrymen. Mulligan, who broke up with Shia LaBeouf last October, has become a bit of a serial dater now that she’s an un-kept woman, having reportedly dated Eddie Redmayne, Tom Sturridge, and now Marcus Mumford, lead singer for Mumford & Sons, all in the span of a few months.

Well, color us jealous. Personally, we think Redmayne is capital-H Hot, but we’re kind of envious of Mulligan for managing to charm all three Brits with her feminine wiles. The question is, if you had to pit them all against each other, which pasty Englishman would win in a Battle Royale? Redmayne is certainly a fox with acting chops to boot, having won a Tony last year. And you also have Tom Sturridge, who’s already been snapped up by Sienna Miller and can claim to be the “be fri” to Robert Pattinson‘s “st end.” But then, how can one resist Marcus Mumford’s musical prowess? Who cares if he looks like a British version of Steve Perry from Journey just ate Ken Marino from The State? The guy can sing.

So who would you pick to be your beau? (Assuming you earned their affection and they were all fighting for you, obvs.) It’s certainly a tough competition.

Tom Sturridge And Sienna Miller Hide From Paps On Date Night

Tom Sturridge and Sienna Miller are taking a page out of the Robsten playbook! The undercover couple was spotted outside London’s Groucho Club last night, but immediately split up when caught by the cameras. According to photogs on the scene, the pair separated before both entering the hot spot. They may be good actors, but they’re not fooling anyone.

Tom was previously linked with Carey Mulligan right after she and Shia LaBeouf called it quits, and Sienna is recently single again after cooling things with Jude Law. He’s either every British starlets’ favorite post-break up shoulder to cry on, or he’s the best rebound around (or both?). Kinda makes us wish we’d get dumped just to have the opportunity to cry in Tom’s bony arms and get his vintage t-shirts wet with our snot.

Star Signs: Carey And Tom Are “Perfectly Matched”

Carey Mulligan and Tom Sturridge have been spotted getting friendly all over Los Angeles this week, and we’re dying to know if this two-person Brit Pack is more than just friends. Because, ya know, that would mean double dates with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are inevitable! Here’s what our horoscope partner Moonit has to say about the new couple:

According to their birth dates, Carey (born May 28, 1985) and Tom (born December 21, 1985) are a “match made in heaven.” Have you ever heard the expression, “if you love something, set it free…?” Yeah, well, that’s a load of garbage. Is Robert Pattinson BFF Tom Sturridge Dating Carey Mulligan? (We Hope So!)

If you’ve seen Robert Pattinson (photos), you’ve seen Tom Sturridge. The BFFs are attached at their bony Brit hips, but now there might be a reason for the pair to explore some time apart. Tom was spotted leaving Carey Mulligan‘s Best Western home away from home in Los Angeles with the actress (photo above) and wise web sleuths have noticed that they’ve already shared a t-shirt (taking one from the Robsten Secret Relationship Handbook, how cute!). So does this mean they’re actually an item?

According to Lainey Gossip, Carey’s ex Shia LeBeouf has moved on with another girl and is dragging her to papparazzi haunts to make Carey jealous. Carey, on the other hand, is desperate to get out of LA and back to London (can’t say we blame her) and has been spotted hanging out with Tom (er, TomStu) recently. No doubt his accent helps to cure her homesickness, and his cheekbones and bizarrely adorable fashion sense can’t hurt either! But it’s still unclear if they’re shacking up or just hanging out as friends.

It’s no secret we adore Tom – his weird hiking boots, the way he lurks around while Rob and Kristen make out – and he’s a talented dude to boot. Plus he and Carey kinda make the perfect alt-Brit couple, indie darlings with delicate features and precious smiles. Please let this relationship actually make it to the not-so-secretly-dating phase!

RPattz Visits KStew On The Set Of On The Road

This weekend Robert Pattinson is paying a conjugal visit to his better half, Kristen Stewart, on the set of On The Road, which is filming in Montreal. (Check out photos of Rob on the set at the link.) It’s been a while since the pair has been spotted together, huh?

Pattinson has been spotted on the set visiting with Stewart and his pal Tom Sturridge, who also has a role in the film. Eyebrows were raised when Stewart was seen hanging out with Sturridge but it turns out he’s just making nice with his best friend’s girl.
