Susan Sarandon Calls The Pope A “Nazi”

Another day, another celebrity making some totally out-of-the-blue reference to the Nazis. No, it’s not Lars Von Trier comparing himself to Hitler this time around. We mean, he’s probably still doing that, just quietly to himself. No, instead Susan Sarandon’s Nazi comments, made during this weekend’s Hampton Film Festival, came at the expense of Pope Benedict XVI, who seems like a pretty easy target if you ask us. When clarifying which pontiff she had sent a copy of Dead Man Walking, Sarandon said, “The last one [Pope John Paul II], not this Nazi one we have now.” Sarandon then repeated the joke again while the audience laughed. Ouch! Now that’s a (completely unnecessary) burn right there!

According to TMZ, the papal PR team allegedly acknowledges that, while the Pope was a member of the Hitler Youth as a child, he had no “active participation” within the dread German party. Since Benedict still gets to be the Pope no matter how many zingers the cast of Bull Durham tosses his way, we doubt he would be too upset by the crack. Just don’t tell that joke around Lars Von Trier, or else he will never take the Vatican off speed dial.

Eva Amurri Gets Racy For Her Very Public Bachelorette Invite

Susan Sarandon‘s daughter Eva Amurri is celebrating her bachelorette party at Lavo in Vegas on Friday. It’s clearly not the era of blushing brides anymore considering the invite (see above) where Eva looks all come-hither in sheer, white and black-detailed lingerie. She’s marrying ex soccer player Kyle Martino, who met his fiancee at her — and this is fate’s hand, clearly — at a lingerie shoot for Maxim magazine. What we’re kinda having a problem with is this — why would anyone want to have such a public bachelorette party with a bunch of random, sweaty people? It seems like such a Kardashian-Paris Hilton thing to do! And that invite is very ‘pimp my wedding’, isn’t it? Looks like every little bit of a celebrity wedding can be encashed now. Do you think it’s in poor taste?

Susan Sarandon In Talks To Play Andy Samberg’s Sexy Mom, This Time On Film

There are worse things for a sixty-something actress than being typecast as Andy Samberg‘s sexy mom. The Hollywood Reporter says that Susan Sarandon in talks to teacher Mary McGarrigle, who hooks up with Adam Sandler in their new movie, I Hate You, Dad. Leighton Meester will play Samberg’s fiancee, who fights with Sandler after the titular dad moves into his son’s apartment all wacky-like, while Vanilla Ice and Ian Ziering both play wacky, fictional versions of themselves. With that much winking self-awareness, how can this not be a hit?

As digital short enthusiasts know, Sarandon has already played Samberg’s mom in the classic clip “Mother Lover,” where she gets her freak on with Justin Timberlake while Andy’s busy satisfying JT’s mom, Patricia Clarkson. It’s not quite clear if Sarandon would be Samberg’s mom or his stepmom, but either way she’d be a major asset to the film. People have been paying to see her seduce younger men since Bull Durham and White Palace! The question, if anything, is why she’d bother with Sandler.

Beastie Boys’ Fight For Your Right: Revisited Trailer Released

Back in January we reported that Beastie Boy Adam Yauch‘s battle with cancer was successful, and since his treatments have ended, the band has been busy. They’ve been working on their latest album, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, which will release on May 3, and they made a short film called Fight For Your Right: Revisited, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The trailer for the short was just released online and as you can imagine, the film revisits and reenacts the Boys’ famous “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)” video and consists of wall-to-wall celebrity cameos. Check out the who’s who of Hollywood comedians (and Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci which … sure, why not?) in the video above.

Did Susan Sarandon And Judah Friedlander Hook Up On-Set At 30 Rock?

We know what you’re thinking: does he leave his hat on? No, sorry, that’s the second thing you think after “Whaaaaaaaaaaa?” Rumors that Susan Sarandon and Judah Friedlander hooked up on the 30 Rock set are no joke, however. A source claimed the two “hooked up” while Sarandon stopped by to film a cameo, though Friedlander says they are just friends. Both avid table tennis fans, Sarandon and Friedlander played a ping pong benefit this fall at Sarandon’s SPiN club. You guys, the man literally wears his heart on his…head. The second that trucker hat says “I Heart Macking It With Susan Sarandon,” then we’ll know.

While Friedlander looks like he has a very intense, intimate relationship with his right hand, Sarandon is rumored to be dating her business partner Jonathan Bircklin. When asked by the New York Post about his relationship with the Thelma & Louise star, Friedlander joked, “You know, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to only go out with Oscar winners.” Later, 30 Rock‘s Frank texted the reported to tell them, “I just can’t say either way what’s going on with me and Susan.” We guess when Judah claims to be the World Champion, the word “lover” is implied. Right? Sorry, terrible mental image.

10 Best Dressed Women At The 2011 SAG Awards

It was SAG time last night. The Screen Actors Guild Awards had some bigger winners, both fashion and otherwise. Natalie Portman belonged to both lists, looking fabulous in a white Azzaro column gown, and winning Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a leading role for Black Swan. Colin Firth won Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a leading role for The Kings Speech. Look at a full list of the SAG Awards winners and nominees here.

In terms of fashion, no one surprised as more than Tina Fey who knocked it out of the park in a red lace Oscar de la Renta confection. And though we love Modern Family, young Sarah Hyland has never been on our radar until now. She looked stunning in a tangerine Max Mara Elegante gown. Mila Kunis was reminiscent of Michelle Obama in crimson and black Alexander McQueen beauty. We’d also like to add that Susan Sarandon makes us go green with envy. Seriously… that woman is not turning 65 this year.

Check out the gallery below for our full list of best dressed women to see what and who they were wearing. Remember to tell us what you think! [Photos: Getty Images]

Famous Loner, Rebel Pee-Wee Herman Debuts Broadway Show

pee wee herman party 121110

We don’t usually cover the Broadway beat here at TheFABLife, but for Pee-Wee Herman, we will make an exception. In case you hadn’t heard, Pee Wee (played by Paul Reubens) is bringing his legendary Pee-Wee Herman Show stage show to the Great White Way for a few months so that those of us who grew up on Pee-Wee’s Playhouse can relive our childhood. Mecca lecca hi, mecca heiny ho indeed.

It’s safe to say Pee-Wee is one of the biggest influences in our young life and we can quote approximately 99% of Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure verbatim. (By the way, you do know that actor Mark Holton, a.k.a. bike thief Francis Buxton went on to play John Wayne Gacy, right? Scariest poster ever? Yes, yes it is.) So, we personally can’t wait to see the Broadway show, but apparently neither could a lot of celebrities. Check out who was there on opening night, including some of our Playhouse faves like Miss Yvonne (the most beautiful woman in Puppetland!) and Cowboy Curtis (played here by Phil Lamarr, not Laurence Fishburne – he’s busy with other things these days.)

Sorry, Stephen Dorff, We Have To Post These Awesome Old Pictures Of You And Your Famous Friends

dorff_main

Stephen Dorff is about to enjoy a bit of a comeback now that he’s starring in Sofia Coppola‘s upcoming film, Somewhere, which comes out next month. To be fair, he never actually went anywhere, he’s been making movies steadily since 1987, but he hasn’t really been in a blockbuster since, yikes, Blade? We guess? 1998. Wow, that’s a while. Anyway. Point is, he’s kind of all over the place these days (for instance, on the cover of VMan Magazine looking hot and sexy-leathery) but that got us thinking about how hot and slightly-less-leathery he used to be, which begat a photo search, which unearthed some super ’90s treasures.

We discovered that Dorff has quite a cache of famous friends and former co-stars from back in the day. Dorff frequently walked the red carpet accompanied by his various friends and girlfriends (Neil Patrick Harris during Doogie days! Teenage Reese Witherspoon!) and these photos are like a time capsule from the years you listened to that one Everclear album on repeat and thought Goat-Boy was the funniest SNL sketch ever. So of course we created a list of our favorite Dorfffriends through the years. As you can see, some stars faded as the new millennium approached, and some only got bigger and more Oscar-winning. Please enjoy and, who knows, maybe you’ll be inspired to Netflix Backbeat after this.

Wall Street 2: This Premiere Never Sleeps

wallstreet2main

We haven’t seen Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, but we’re fans of the first film and have a lot of theories about how this new film is going to go down. First of all, if Shia LaBeouf doesn’t go on some mission to find his predecessor, Charlie Sheen (and inevitably finds him living in a cabin in the woods seeking redemption for his formerly greedy ways), that will have been a wasted opportunity. And if there’s not some kind of nod to Michael Douglas‘ prototype of those newfangled cellular telephones that were as big as a tissue box, we’ll be disappointed. Other than that, bring it on, sequel!

The premiere of the film took place in New York last night, and all the stars were out in full force – it was a mix of the old guard and the new. LaBeouf and girlfriend/co-star Carey Mulligan looked amazing, as did Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And director Oliver Stone took time out from growing and combing his mustache to attend so that was nice. Of course, it wouldn’t be a party unless Courtney Love showed up and made everyone nervous so there was that, too. Check out all the shots from the red carpet below.

Susan Sarandon Appears In Cougar Town: The Movie

susan_sarandon_5

It’s Cougar Week here at the FABLife and the ladies are on the prowl…for inappropriately young men! Recently out of her straw-lined cage is Susan Sarandon, spotted recently taking a romantic stroll through the Giffoni Film Festival in Ravenna, Italy with her much younger “companion” Jonathan Bricklin. For someone working with a 32 year age difference, Sarandon is seriously getting ‘er done.

Sarandon, who loves being called a cougar, met this fine hunk of man-meat through SPiN, the New York ping-pong club which Bricklin co-owns and counts Susan as an investor. While the couple has denied that they are dating, we bet that not even insanely rich movie stars just up and take their casual business associates on intimate European holidays. Oh, and the couple has also been to Macchu Piccu together, which hello, might as well put it on the Jumbotron while you’re at it.

After reading about hot, baked-ham-colored cougar Linda Hogan yesterday, it is refreshing to see that Susan Sarandon is a lady of a certain age who isn’t pretending she’s not your mom. She has your mom’s breezy linen pants, your mom’s sensible lightweight cardigan, and your mom’s mom hairdo. Cougar style is about expressing coug-self!

Now, we were as sad as anyone else when Sarandon split with her long-time partner Tim Robbins last year. But if this is who she is bringing to Thanksgiving this year, her kids will have to admit, at least begrudgedly, that their mom is sort of a pimp.
