Sofia Coppola Is Married!

This news got almost completely buried under VMA madness, specifically Beyonce getting babied! Because Beyonce-baby is already more famous in its embryonic stage than most celebrities can ever hope to be. But we digress in our excitement! This is not about celebspawn. This is about wishing newly-weds Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars a world of happiness!

The director wed her rocker boyfriend (who just happens to be the front-man for Phoenix) on Saturday in an idyllic Southern Italian village called Bernalda, where the Coppola’s have a family villa. This sounds like our dream wedding, BTW. Check this out — the bride and groom said their vows in front of 80 people in the evening at a beautiful historical building called the Palazzo Margherita. They then feasted on cheeses, figs, salads, pasta, fish and pork, paired with wine. Damn. Could our invite have got lost in the mail, perhaps? Sofia wore a lovely, lavender designed just for her by Azzedine Alaïa to make it even more squee-worthy. The couple share two kiddies and have been together for years before making it “official” official. Congratulazioni!

The Full 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards Red Carpet Report

The 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards took place last night at Lincoln Center in New York City. The show saw some serious fashionista traffic, but we have to admit we expected it to be a tad more A-List. Still, can’t complain with the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio in a red-hot Prabal Gurung dress and Liv Tyler in an unusual Proenza Schouler silk printed sheath. Both ladies showed a fair amount of back! We also loved Kerry Washington‘s simple white A-Line Calvin Klein dress and Lucy Liu‘s dramatic black Monique Lhuillier gown. Miranda Kerr looked heart-stoppingly sexy in her black Michael Kors skirt and cut-out body suit. But the big winner of the night was Lady Gaga who scooped up the Fashion Icon Award, bringing her sister Natali Germanotta as her date.

Unfortunately, there were a couple of fashion fails as well. Chloe Sevigny looked like she had forgotten to do up the top of her leather ruffle eyelet blouse from her own collection. Marcia Cross wore an inexplicable Pamella Roland blue sequined halter jumpsuit and Naomi Watts looked generically pretty but very blah in her Calvin Klein gold dress. We also love us some Ashley Greene but she just wasn’t working her two-tone Michael Kors dress, like a pregnant Jessica Alba worked the same trend in DVF. Perhaps it’s because Ashley’s clunky shoes were all wrong. One look at Gerard Butler in his snug, extremely well-cut suit, and all was well again. Crazy Fashion On Somewhere‘s Red Carpet

Somewhere in Los Angeles, a sad clown is sitting in his incredibly cramped tiny car wondering where his favorite pantsuit is. He hasn’t yet learned that model Erin Wasson stole it for the premiere of Somewhere at the Arclight last night. Wasson has just a small role in the film and yet she was all we could look at because…look at that uhh, jumpsuit? Romper? What would you call it?

There was actually a ton of crazy fashion on the red carpet for the new Sofia Coppola film, but the main stars, Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning, kept it classy and demure compared to the likes of Wasson, Elodie Bouchez and Isabel Lucas. Producers Seek Oscar-Nominated Directors For Breaking Dawn

The Twilight series may be enjoying massive commercial success and enjoy a rabidly devotional cult, but there’s still one thing it’s failed to achieve: prestige! According to some hot gossip from EW, Summit Entertainment is trying to rope an Oscar-nominated director to classy up their adaptation of the final book, Breaking Dawn, which will likely be split into two movies. Among those mentioned were Milk director Gus Van Sant, Lost In Translation‘s Sofia Coppola and Showgirls‘ Bill Condon, with Van Sant confirming he had been contacted.

Anyone who’s read (or even just read about) the final Twilight novel knows how far it steps from the Pacific Northwest vamp romance of the first book, with one heck of a birthing scene in store for Kristen Stewart and some seriously creepazoid activity from Taylor Lautner‘s Jacob. Judging from their decision to contact Coppola and Condon rather than hailed horror-heads like David Cronenberg or David Lynch (both of whom have respectively delivered monster babies in The Fly and Eraserhead), the producers may be looking for someone who can make this gothic garishness as pretty as possible…and not scare away those who came for romance. With shooting planned for this Fall, it shouldn’t be long before we get a name.
