Penn Badgley’s 25 Hottest Looks For His 25th Birthday

Penn Badgley embodies the tall-dark-and-handsome leading man of Hollywood yesteryear. Ever since appearing on our screens four years ago as the brooding Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl, we knew big things were on the horizon for this dude. And sure enough, it’s true! He’s starring in this fall’s intense drama Margin Call along side Tinseltown bigwigs like Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore and Jeremy Irons, plus he’s been tapped to play iconic musician Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic. But on top of having killer acting chops, Penn is also known for his razor-sharp style. Gossip Girl has one of the classiest television wardrobes this side of Mad Men, and naturally some of that steez rubbed off on its star. And today is his 25th birthday! So in honor of his quarter century on this planet, we’d like to take a look back at Penn’s 25 hottest red-carpet styles. Enjoy!

XOXO,

Great Moments In Penn Badgley’s Political Career

By Sabrina Rojas Weiss

Penn Badgley seemed kinda sheepish about being photographed at the Occupy Wall Street protest in Downtown Manhattan earlier this week.

“I mean, listen, it’s cheesy,” Badgley told CapitalNewYork.com. “But I want to do whatever I can. Let’s be honest: I’m on f*cking ‘Gossip Girl.’”

But maybe Penn’s selling himself short. Because when we look back at his past deeds, we can tell he’s got politics in his blood. Behold …

First Look: Penn Badgley As Jeff Buckley

There are two Jeff Buckley movies in the works — and the biopic starring Penn Badgley and Imogen Poots just started shooting in Brooklyn this week. Greetings from Tim Buckley is a love story set to the backdrop of Jeff Buckley’s performance at his father’s tribute concert in 1991. Both father and son passed away at a tragically young age: Tim died at 28 from a heroin overdose, Jeff drowned at the age of 31. We’re excited to see Imogen Poots’ star continue to rise; in addition to looking like the super-human love child of Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, she’s massively talented. Pics below!

Zoe Kravitz’s Awkward Movie Date With Gossip Dude Penn Badgley

It looks like the X-Men bond has been broken, as Zoe Kravitz has split with her First Class costar Michael Fassbender and moved on to Gossip Girl star, Penn Badgley. The two were seen leaving the (aptly named) Friends With Benefits party in the same cab, and more recently they were seen canoodling in a darkened movie theater watching Horrible Bosses. “He had his arm around her while they waited in line,” a source told Page Six.

But it looks like that was the wrong movie to see together, because things got a little awkward for the newly minted couple. Apparently there’s a part of the movie where Jennifer Aniston’s racy character asks, “Did you see Gossip Girl last night? I [bleeped] myself so hard [watching] that Penn Badgley guy, I broke a nail.” According to the witness, this made the real Penn more than a little uncomfortable. “The look on Penn’s face was priceless. They left the theater right after.” Looks like you might have some competition, Zoe!

Penn Badgley Knows You’re Skeptical About This Whole Jeff Buckley Thing

The announcement of Penn Badgley’s Jeff Buckley biopic has some people questioning whether Penn’s skills extend beyond looking dapper and being the loneliest of boys (both of which he does very well). “I haven’t begun vocal lessons, but I’m taking guitar lessons. I’m obviously, like, throwing myself 200 percent into it,” Badgley reassures New York Mag about his total commitment to the part. “I’m just really prepping in every possible manner, and yeah, vocal lessons will at some point be involved. But it is going to be me playing and singing.” Badgley’s already mastered the art of hair pomade application; clearly musical ability will quickly follow.

Seeing as how rumors of a Robert Pattinson Jeff Buckley film brought out people’s true opinions about which slender, mopey young actor would be better at playing the late musician, Badgley wants everyone to know just how honored he is at the opportunity to do better than Robert Pattinson. “And, you know, the reason I’m telling you is because, obviously, there’s a whole lot of people who are skeptical,” Penn admits. “[S]o I would … I just want to be clear that I’m very moved by the opportunity, and I really am giving myself to it.” We don’t know enough about him, but if Jeff Buckley wore vests and made out with Blake Lively, then Penn has this one in the bag.

Penn Badgley Is Jeff Buckley, Only In The Other Movie!

This has been SO confusing! Penn Badgely might be Jeff Buckley. Penn Badgley is not Jeff Buckley. Now, as it turns out, Penn Badgley is Jeff Buckley in another film! When Hollywood jumps on a bandwagon you’d better believe multiple films will be the result. To clear this whole will he-won’t he biznezz, there are two Jeff Buckley films in the offing. The one Penn will star in is called Greetings from Tim Buckley, and will be directed by Dan Algrant.

This movie will explore the relationship between Jeff and his father — both musicians — and Penn has revealed, “To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood & mythologized as a human being… It’s something very special and sacred. I’m going to give all I can to this project.” To further cement the casting news, Smuggler Films announced, “Smuggler Films announced today Penn Badgley will star in the much anticipated film Greetings from Tim Buckley. He will play Tim Buckley’s son Jeff in the first film to be made about the musicians…”

Where all the confusion arose from is the other Jeff Buckley film, to be directed by Jake Scott and produced by the late singer’s mother. That one hasn’t even started the casting process as yet. Cool? But you do realize that this is good news, right? If there are two Buckley biopics, means that Robert Pattinson still has a shot at a lead role!

Rumors That Penn Badgley Will Play Jeff Buckley Are False, Producer Says

Whether you think it’s great news (all those R. Pattz fans out there, heeeeey!) or bad news (Penn Badgley), it looks like those Penn Badgley Jeff Buckley casting rumors are not true. “Penn is not involved in the film at all,” the movie’s co-producer Orian Williams told the LA Times. “It’s crazy how these stories get out.” Aw, now we have to imagine how excited Penn must have been to get a role he never even tried out for. Those big eyes shining with tears. Just heartbreaking.

As for the other front runner Robert Pattinson, Jeff Buckley‘s life story isn’t his just yet. According to Williams, the movie will likely select an unknown actor, unburdened with the weight of all that vampiric and/or Upper West Side baggage. Said Williams,”[The producers] are all very unified in our search to find the perfect person to play Jeff.” Wow, and to think there’s a pale, handsome, angsty unknown actor that Hollywood hasn’t made famous already. It…it just doesn’t seem fathomable.

Rumor We Hate: Penn Badgley Snags Jeff Buckley Role From R. Pattz

Despite embodying the part right down to the adorable smirk, it looks like Robert Pattinson’s Jeff Buckley biopic dreams will have to be reserved for when he is actually asleep. Instead, Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley will play Jeff Buckley in the upcoming film about the musician’s life and untimely death. Despite rumors that had the Twilight star almost immediately attached to the project, directed by Jake Scott, it turns out that Badgley went chiseled jawline to chiseled jawline with him and somehow managed to win out. We guess if you match up their requisite musical ability and perfectly maintained stubble, Penn and Rob seem fairly evenly matched, until you factor in R. Pattz’s pitch-perfect moodiness. What do you think? Does the casting choice leave you baffled, or are you quietly singing hallelujah?

Russell Brand Earns Cosmo “Fun Fearless Male” Honor By Biting Editor-In-Chief

Though Russell Brand was certainly living up to the concept of Cosmopolitan‘s Fun Fearless Males Of 2011 event last night in NY (that’s editor-in-chief Kate White he’s chomping on), he didn’t sound that confident tweeting before the gala. “Tonight I am being awarded by Cosmo for being fun and fearless. But punished by the cosmos for being a terrified drag.” Thankfully, wife Katy Perry knew just what to do—cover Lady Gaga. “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen!” she responded, inspiring Russell to tweet back “in your honour I shall go as a drag-queen, I’m going to raid your make-up bag. X” Considering he chickened out, maybe he isn’t so fearless after all!

Other studs celebrated at the affair included Penn Badgley, Chad Ochocinco, Ian Somerhalder, Chris Hemsworth and Old Spice dude Isaiah Mustafa. See photos of the boys—and Mila Kunis rocking a white suit!—in the red carpet gallery below.

Report: Blake And Penn Are So Over

gossip girl 111208

No relationship is sacred in Hollywood – not David and Courteney, not Shia and Carey, and now it looks like even Penn Badgley and Blake Lively have broken up. US Magazine is reporting that the couple called it quits way back in September, which would explain why Lively was hanging out with Ryan Gosling at Disneyland a couple weeks ago. Perhaps Blake was trying to comfort Ryan, since he still seems to be shell-shocked by his days in the Mickey Mouse Club and it’s some kind of regressive therapy.

The pair’s demise his hardly the first romance to fizzle on the set of Gossip GirlEd Westwick and Jessica Szohr have been on-again-off-again more times than we can count, and Leighton Meester and Sebastian Stan broke up earlier this year. Looks like Gossip Girl is starting to rival One Tree Hill as a relationship graveyard.
