Our 25 Favorite Vampires Of 2011

We’re not shy about our vampire obsession around here. And even as angels and werewolves and dystopian battlefields take over the screens and bookshelves, it doesn’t look like sexy bloodsuckers are going anywhere. Sure, they experience a bit of boom and bust, but a look back at the last 100 years in pop culture proves their undying staying power. In 2011, our blood was stirred by a nice crop of undead seducers, from Eric and Bill on True Blood to Damon and Stefan on The Vampire Diaries to the entire morally upstanding Cullen family. There were others who leapt from the pages of books whose racy covers we sometimes had to keep hidden — Bloodlines, the spinoff of YA series Vampire Academy, made its debut; Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series is still going strong, and in City of Fallen Angels, the latest from Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series, vampire Simon went from best friend to hot commodity. There were even a couple of “nonfiction” vamps who made it onto our 2011 list.

Before you check out our 25 faves, watch who such celebrity vampire experts as True Blood’s Joe Manganiello and Twilight’s Elizabeth Reaser, and non-experts like Andrew W.K., Robin Thicke and Questlove would nominate for Vampire of the Year. Because we just declared that a thing.

Now, take a look at our top 25, vote on your faves and let us know in the comments if we missed any of your favorites.

Breaking Dawn Star Nikki Reed Returns To Screenwriting Roots

Breaking Dawn Part 1 didn’t quite bring in as much box-office cash as the biggest Twilight movie so far, New Moon, but its $139.5 million opening places it at #5 of the all-time biggest debuts. It’s hard to remember that this mega franchise comes from humble indie roots — but one of the biggest reminders of that is how some of the stars are planning their post-Twilight futures.

Take Nikki Reed, for example. The actress who first came to Hollywood’s attention as the 13-year-old co-writer and co-star of Catherine Hardwicke‘s Thirteen wants to return to her first passion, writing.

“I’m working on a screenplay now,” she told TheFABlife last week. “It’s not autobiographical, but it’s based on a distant, distant family member. And I’m writing music with Paul, and I write on my blog all the time. And I’m thinking about a novel idea right now, so writing is probably my number one priority.”

After all the kerfuffle over Nikki’s quote in Seventeen magazine about not being best friends with the entire cast, we asked which co-stars and directors she’s dying to work with again.

All of them for different reasons. Right now I’m such a huge fan of Bill Condon‘s, that’s right there in the forefront of my mind. He’s so talented. I was a fan of his long before the series. But all of them for different reasons — Chris Weitz is so talented, David Slade, Catherine Hardwicke who I’ve worked with numerous times. Being in Breaking Dawn and having so many great scenes to work on with Kristen was so great. She and I have been close for many years. It was really exciting to be able to do that with her. And Elizabeth Reaser and Michael Sheen. It’s like, gosh, I don’t know. There is not one!”

Which Twilight Premiere Was Best Dressed? Nikki Reed Weighs In

Wow, guys, Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere week is almost done. We’re trying very hard to ignore the fact that there’s only one movie left (sniffX1000), and instead focusing on the positive here. Looking back at the red-carpet premieres of the last four Twilight movies is like browsing through the photo album of a trio of sisters (obvs, we’re talking Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed): See how styles and their tastes changed as they grew up before our eyes? Aww. We asked Nikki if she could pick a favorite gown from all of her Twilight premieres, and she was quick to reply.

“I’m going to go with this year’s [gown] because I chose it because it was green, and green is my mom’s favorite color,” she said. “I know it seems sort of silly and sappy, but the truth is it’s the only dress I tried on. I saw it, Marchesa’s great, and I was like, ‘Mom, we’re going with green, for you.’ ”

Take a minute to look back at all three actress’ red-carpet getups, and then tell us which year you think they were most fashionable.

Nikki Reed, Paul McDonald Aren’t Lobbying For Breaking Dawn 2 Soundtrack (Yet)

In “Now That I’ve Found You,” Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald perfectly capture the bliss of being newly wed: “I love you sleeping with your socks on/ I love you laughing in our house,” they croon together, him in his Rod Stewart-esque voice, her with a soft country sound. You absolutely get the feeling it was recorded by two people in that stage of their relationship where they can’t stand to be apart for a minute, so they start picking up each other’s work and pastimes. And to hear Nikki talk about it, that’s exactly what it was.

“We just wrote it and recorded it all in this whirlwind week, and we discovered that we love working together,” she told TheFABlife. “And that’s really great. I don’t know if it’s true, but I read this statistic that couples that stay together are the ones that can create together, and to know that you can do that with someone is pretty cool.”

So, it sounds like a collaboration that will continue. Does Nikki want to start lobbying for the soundtrack of Breaking Dawn Part 2?

“Gosh, I don’t want to be recorded as saying I want to be in the soundtrack, but that would be incredible,” she laughed. Listen to the song after the jump, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Nikki Reed Didn’t Mean “Best Friends” Quote “In A Bad Way”

Nikki Reed caught some flak from the media and the Twilight fan community this week, when excerpts of her interview with Seventeen magazine came out and she admitted that the cast members are “not all best friends.” Well, when we had the chance to sit down with the one and only Rosalie Hale we asked her to elaborate a bit, before we all jump to conclusions about strife on the set.

“It’s easy to take any simple, honest, not-negative statement and make it negative,” she said of the quote. “If you think about it, this cast has had so little drama. The press tries to take whatever they can and make it into something, even if it’s just a really silly statement. They’re like, ‘Oh my god, that’s bad!’ But if you think about it, what I was trying to say wasn’t bad at all.

Nikki Reed Covers Seventeen, Talks Twilight Cast Dynamics

Nikki Reed‘s beaming on the December cover of Seventeen magazine, but on the topic of her Twilight castmates she isn’t exactly full of sunshine. We’re so used to seeing them chummy on red carpets, that we’d all like to believe that they’re BFFs in real life. That’s not always the case, as Nikki clarifies in the interview, “In the beginning, it was innocent and fun, and we were like one big happy family –– it was like being at sleepaway camp. And then success comes along and changes the dynamic.” That’s when we cutaway to a shot of the actress looking moodily into the future with a dramatic swell of music in the background. Easy now, we kid.

But after Breaking Dawn, the actress realistically said that not all on-set relationships will spill over to real life. “We’re not all best friends, and we’re not all going to hang out together after the final movie is done.” Does that include Kristen Stewart? Those two used to be besties, but we haven’t heard a peep about them in a while. ”She makes really good dessert,” is what Nikki answered when asked what she’d miss about KStew the most. That’s it? There’s got to be more to miss!

Breaking Dawn Black Carpet: Best Of The Sparkly Vampires And Humans

The scene at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 black-carpet premiere on Monday night was a motley mass of press, fans, totally random celebrities (and Kardashians) and, of course, the stars and crew that created this little thing we call Twilight. As has come to be expected of the franchise, even the castmembers with the smallest parts put on their fanciest getups and were treated like A-listers by the fans. Casey LaBow was, well, daring in a yellow and gold mini-dress with gray feather details. Ashley Stewart’s amazing makeup made up for the fact that her dress distractingly reminded us of a candy cane. Christian Serratos‘ sleeveless, flowing hot-pink gown and Elizabeth Reaser‘s maroon sequined, long-sleeved number nearly stole the show. That is, until the real star of the evening showed up. Then we couldn’t tear our eyes away from Kristen Stewart‘s sparkly black-and-blue J. Mendel gown with the slit up to there. And when she kicked off her heels and put on those trademark sneaks, we knew our girl had arrived. Check out our picks for the best dressed vamps and humans at the big event, and stay tuned later for tons more Breaking Dawn coverage.

Jackson Rathbone And Nikki Reed Bring Breaking Dawn To Madrid And Rome

Dang! Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone are giving Ashley Greene and Robert Pattinson some serious competition in the premiere department. RPattz and Ashley had paired up to attend The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 events in Paris and Brussels and they looked pretty great. But Nikki and Jackson — and please forgive us for saying this — have blown them out of the water in the wardrobe department. They also look like they’ve been having fun!

For the photocall in Madrid on Friday night, Nikki wore a cherry-red dress that looked perfect with her chocolate brown hair and paired it with really interesting taupe suede ankle-wrap sandals from Camilla Skovgaard. Jackson looked delish in a jeans-and-blazer combination. For the premiere, the actress put on a really funky green and black polka-dotted dress by Topshop. Jackson, on the other hand, is the only person we know (“know” being a term used loosely) who can pull off an aubergine suit and navy blue shirt. Click after the jump to hear about what they wore in Rome and to access the gallery. (more…)

Nikki Reed’s Wedding Dress: Not Designed For Rosalie’s Revenge

OK, we thought Nikki Reed had been all low key about her wedding last weekend, when she and American Idol cutie Paul McDonald got married in a private ceremony in Malibu. But it turns out the “Twilight” star was just a wee bit fancy on Sunday. She got a freaking jewelry maker, Tacori, to design her wedding gown, which had 100 DIAMOND BUTTONS. And also a 72-inch train. Try to murder your evil fiancé in that, Rosalie. Anyway, this week’s Us Weekly has photos and got all the deets on the dress, which is strapless and has a “ ‘40s classic glamour silhouette.”

We haven’t seen the whole spread yet, but there’s one thing that’s slightly confusing to us: Why, in the photo we have seen, are Paul and Nikki on the stairs leading up to an old-timey train car? And that 6-foot train is trailing in dirt and a bunch of golden leaves. Do they even have fall in Malibu? OK, we’ll just suspend disbelief and go with the fantasy for now ’cause they both look so pretty. I mean, next they’re going to tell us something crazy, like vampires don’t exist.

Presenting Mr. And Mrs. McDonald-Reed!

Yay! Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald got married! We haven’t spotted any photographs of the wedding just yet but what we do have is the newlyweds exiting Trousdale nightclub in West Hollywood together, looking completely adorable. If body language says anything, then these two are madly in love. They’re probably still floating from the wedding, which just happened on Sunday. You know what they say — the couple that parties together, stays together. Or something like that. Congratulations, you two! We’re digging the leather jackets and the skinny jeans you both have on.
