The guest list at the Rodarte show answered a few lingering questions we’ve had lately, the first being “Where’s Kirsten Dunst hiding these days?”and the second being “Which Fashion Week runway show will draw the coolest crowd ever?” Dunst was there  palling around with her on-screen husband from Marie Antoinette, Jason Schwartzman, while indie music icons Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth sat a few seats away. Award season is heating up in Hollywood, with Up In The Air already taking Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress from the National Board Of Review. Here are ten films films we expect to hear come up a lot this winter, as more cinema societies name their top movies of the 2009. • Brothers

Movies directed by Jim Sheridan—that don’t star 50 Cent—have a tendency to snag award nominations for their actors. • An Education

Though there are plenty of fussy European period pieces looking for award show love this year (Bright Star, The Last Station, The Young Victoria), one of the most promising is only (only!) set about forty plus years ago. Star Carey Mulligan has already won a Hollywood Award for her portrayal of a schoolgirl swept away by an older man of questionable ethics.

Natalie Portman exploited her gamine physique in an old-fashioned flapper dress at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in NYC last night, where she took home a lifetime achievement award…despite not even being 30! Natalie is an early contender to be nominated for Best Actress for her role in Brothers at awards shows this season, including the Critics Choice Movie Awards, The Golden Globes and the Oscars.

Also receiving career tributes were Stanley Tucci and director Kathryn Bigelow, whose film The Hurt Locker also snagged Best Film and Best Ensemble Performance. See who else attended in the gallery below.

Jake Gyllenhaal must have been too busy rubbing oil on his abs to attend last night’s screening of Brothers in NYC, but co-stars Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire were there all the same to hawk their Oscar bait. Maybe Jake was still smarting from Nat’s zinger in People: “Jake is the kind of guy who can do a spot-on impression of someone you work with that will make you giggle. He plays guitar and has a great voice. Kids and dogs love him. He loves his mom and sister and girlfriend. He’s perfect. Too bad he’s ugly.” Among those attending were Emma Roberts, Agyness Deyn, Amanda Peet and Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan.

Natalie Portman brings back the 80s in the new issue of V Magazine, where the actress talks about why she didn’t like her performance in Star Wars, her favorite dirty word, and why the internet is bulls#$t.

On Star Wars: “My acting was not exactly respected in those films [laughs] but those are the moments when you want to prove yourself again. When people think I suck, it helps.”

Her Favorite Dirty Word: “To be successful, you need the desire to be successful. Ambition can be a dirty word, but it’s pretty much more important than anything.”

On how the internet affects her roles: “[O]nline bulls— interferes with what I want to do artistically. I’m not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to pornography sites and you’re pretty much giving them material if you do any of that.”
