BAFTA Awards: Hot Stuff And Hot Messes Across The Pond

The fact that the British Film and Television Awards took place on the same day as the Grammys probably only annoys folks like us, who would really like to be giving both events our full attention. And so it goes that we basically ignored the U.K.’s Oscars, missing adorable speeches from The Artist’s Jean Dujardin and Michel Hazanavicius (whose Best Actor and Best Director wins were two of seven awards for the film), and not catching that cute moment in which Best Actress winner Meryl Streep lost her shoe climbing the stairs to the stage and Colin Firth ran to get it for her and place it on her feet. Until now, of course. On the red carpet, there were a handful of A-listers, a few Mad Men and Downton Abbey faves, and a lot of Brits that haven’t fully crossed over to the states yet. To our slight disappointment, there weren’t too many total fashion fails, but we managed to find a few (Oh, Christina Hendricks, why must you do that to your body?). Mostly, though, we saw some sexy strutting from the likes of Viola Davis, Christina Ricci and Brad Pitt. See for yourself who was hot, and who was just a hot mess, in the gallery below.

Stars In Seriously Good Spirits At Oscar Nominees Luncheon

It’s overcast in Los Angeles today, but that didn’t stop this year’s batch of Oscar nominees from smiling at the annual Academy Award luncheon, honoring them and their competition at the iconic Beverly Hilton. Celebs like George Clooney, Viola Davis, Melissa McCarthy, Brad Pitt and Michelle Williams popped into the press room in between cocktails and kept reporters laughing with their banter and silly answers. I was there, hiding in the corner with my laptop, and it seriously sounded like the inside of the Laugh Factory. Who wouldn’t be happy hobnobbing with their A-List peers over some seriously good food?

Some of the best behind the scenes moments…

George Clooney was the first of the talent to hit the press room. “I got here early for the booze,” he joked. The actor, nominated twice this year, might just be the most beloved man in Hollywood. He knew all the reporters and even ribbed one guy about his vest. “Did your wife make that?” teased George. I’ve never seen a man charm a room of people so effortlessly as the Cloonster. Even more delightful – his gorgeous, silver hair. Sorry Anderson Cooper, but a new number one Silver Fox has arrived.

10 Bold Colors That Perked Up The SAG Awards Red Carpet

There’s been a whole lot of neutral and black going on this awards season, and that rather works to the advantage of the stars who chose the path less traveled and wore bold colors to the SAG Awards. They stand out all the more with their blues, pinks, greens and reds. From Emily Blunt’s bright green Oscar de la Renta to Jessica Chastain’s delicious blue Calvin Klein collection, the rainbow of gowns was all the more brilliant by the sun shining during the arrivals. Thank you, brave actors for making us sit up and take notice of you before you go off to congratulate yourselves for being brave actors.

20 Oscar Nominees’ Least Award-Winning Roles: From Halloween II To Hannibal

Oscar nominations are pretty much the be-all and end-all when it comes to determining whether actors and actresses have “made it.” Still, it’s good to remember that all those potential Academy Award winners had to start off at the same place: the bottom (and many of them take trips back down there, for nostalgic reasons, we assume). The truth is, whether you’re Jonah Hill or Melissa McCarthy or especially Gary Oldman, you’re bound to have a few embarrassing movie skeletons in your closet. Check out the 2012 Oscar nominees’ least award-winning roles and remember: if Octavia Spencer could go from Halloween II to Academy Award nominee in two years, then maybe you can too! Well, not you specifically. But definitely somebody.

Michelle Williams Strips Down For Her New GQ Cover

When you think about Michelle Williams, some phrases that come to mind might be “pixie cut” or “Academy Award nominee” or “woman who was blessed enough to film a sex scene with Ryan Gosling.” So imagine our hotness-induced asthma attack when the only thing Williams’ new GQ cover made us think of was all the money we’re pouring into our gym membership…without ever going. As if we needed another pantless celebrity reminder.

“I wouldn’t say that that would be one of my first qualities as a human being — being sexy,” the My Week with Marilyn star admits to the magazine in her new interview. “And I think because my character on Dawson’s Creek was sexy…sexualized…sexual…I saw all the negative attention and connotations that can come along with that. And that those things can keep people from seeing you clearly.” Wearing a headband and long sleeves to the Golden Globes one day, posing sans clothing the next: oh no, we see you girl. On a side not, should we be doing crunches? Is that’s what’s going on here? What about Zumba? Really, any advice would be helpful at this point, Michelle.

Octavia Spencer Complains About Her Louboutins And 10 Other Great Golden Globes Press Room Moments

There’s a party going on right here at the Beverly Hilton. The Golden Globes truly are a celebration to last through out the year. (Check out our favorite moments from the show!) Dare we say that it might even be the most fun night in Hollywood… EVER. Everyone — press, crew, celebs — is in good spirits, the booze is plentiful, and the emphasis is on having a good time. And everything is so pretty! The Beverly Hilton is a beautiful and iconic spot any day of the week, but there’s something extra magical about tonight’s event. The red carpet actually felt like a living, breathing thing and it. Is. FIERCE.

But the best part of the night was, of course, hearing from the winners, in all their sweet, excited glory. We were stationed in the press room and had the privilege of listening to all their best moments — from the absolutely ridiculous to the downright cry-worthy. We count ‘em down for you below.

  • Octavia Spencer kicking her shoes off in the middle of answering questions, and then delivering this important message: “Christian Louboutin, I love you, but when you have this much weigh you gotta give us a little platform.”
  • George Clooney answering the “Where is Ryan Gosling?” question: “He’s [working] in Thailand. And you know what they do in Thailand.
  • Matt LeBlanc having a “Joey” moment onstage, answering a reporter’s question with “How you doin’?”

Our Favorite Golden Globes Moments: The Artist’s Dog, Penis Jokes And More

We actually had a scorecard ready to mark how many offensive things Ricky Gervais said at tonight’s Golden Globes, but it seems that he decided to leave the raunch and insults to others. Most of it, at least. Anyway, here are our favorite silly, cute, funny and moving moments from the 69th annual awards show, in semi-chronological order:

» Ricky Gervais said he wasn’t allowed to joke about Mel Gibson, or Jodie Foster’s Beaver. “I haven’t seen it myself; that doesn’t mean it’s not any good.”

» Ricky continued his amusing relationship with Johnny Depp by asking him onstage: “Have you seen The Tourist?” To which Depp answered, “No.”

» Julianne Moore and Rob Lowe very gracefully overcame a TelePrompTer fail. And Downton Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern tripped UP the stairs. And during one cutaway, we saw Dame Helen Mirren chewing. Thus proving stars’ humanness once again.

» While standing next to Kate Beckinsale, Seth Rogen said, “Hello, I’m Seth Rogen, and I’m currently trying to hide a massive erection. ” And then the camera cut away to a show of Jodie Foster’s kids, for some reason.

» Speaking of kids, daughters seemed to be a big theme of the night. Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy winner Michelle Williams thanked her daughter, Matilda, for putting up with having months of bedtime stories in which “all the princesses were read aloud in a Marilyn Monroe voice.” Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series or Miniseries winner Peter Dinklage thanked his daughter who was home with her first babysitter. Best Director winner Martin Scorsese thanked his daughter, Francesca, for introducing him to the book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, on which Hugo is based.

» George Clooney borrowed Brad Pitt’s cane to introduce Moneyball.

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Red Carpet 12 Best-Dressed

Oh, yeah, people. After yesterday’s PCA dress rehearsal, awards season 2012 got really fired up at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards tonight. Our appetites for sequins and lace and tuxes are whetted. We are ready to spend the next month debating whether blue is the new black, whether the mullet dress should go the way of the mullet, and whether men can make it onto the best-dressed list without looking absolutely silly (we’re talking to you, Christopher Plummer).

So, now that we’ve gushed over little sisters Elle Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen, and we’ve been pondering the fact that all those gothic ladies were wearing romantic black at 3 in the afternoon, it’s time to commit to a best-dressed list. From the adorable Thomas Horn and Berenice Bejo to the deliciously elegant Charlize Theron, Michelle Williams and Sir Ben Kingsley, to Brad Pitt and h here are our 12 favorites from the evening. Disagree? Well, tell us in the comments!

Michelle Williams Vs. Carey Mulligan: Which Pixie Is This Week’s Hotness?

As a short-hair girl myself, I always feel a special kinship with other ladies I meet who dare to shear their flowing locks. So I wonder, too, if this year’s awards season darlings Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan feel like they’re sisters of a sort, due to their adorable blond ‘dos. Or maybe, as Hollywood is wont to do, they’ve been forced into a rivalry by half-blind casting directors who see them as interchangeable. I hope not, because the Shame and the My Week With Marilyn stars are both awesome in unique ways. But, contrarily, we decided to promote a different kind of rivalry, by making you vote for them in this week’s Hotness poll.

We’ll get plenty more chances to see future Mrs. Daisy Buchanan Carey and the all-American Dawson’s Creek alum Michelle in the coming weeks, since they’re both nominated for, like, everything, beginning with the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards tomorrow night — head over to CriticsChoice.VH1.com at 6 p.m. ET to see if they’re walking the red carpet. But in the meantime, peruse this gallery of the two lovely ladies and vote!

The 25 Worst-Dressed Stars Of 2011: Vote For The Best…Of The Worst

2011 brought along with it a host of new fashion trends, from long-sleeved gowns to daytime sequins to the ever-unfortunate mullet dress. The biggest trend of all, however, seems to have been stars looking like a volcanically hot mess. Yes, like a single strand of pearls or a little black dress, celebrities sashaying down the red carpet in cringe-inducing couture never gets old. After all, these are people who all have stylists. Who they pay real money. To make them look good. We know.

Without further ado, check out our Worst-Dressed Stars of 2011 gallery then vote on your favorite misguided celebs. Will it be Paz de la Huerta or Nicki Minaj? Katy Perry or Courtney Stodden? Lady Gaga or Snooki? As long as famous people continue to have little to no taste, we’ll all be winners here.
