Sundance Secrets: Liv Tyler And James Marsden On Boots And Booty

We’re very relieved to see that most of the celebrities at Sundance this year have opted to leave their skimpy Los Angeles clothing in their fancy suitcases and don proper winter gear for their Park City romps. Some, like Liv Tyler, learned the hard way that fashion shouldn’t trump practicality, as she told VH1 News.

“It’s all about the shoes,” said the actress, who was there to promote Robot and Frank — a movie starring Frank Langella as an elderly ex-jewel thief and his robot. “Last year, I don’t know what I was thinking, I wore these little Lanvin flats with little white socks. Everything else was all warm and decked out, and I was walking through the slush with frozen toes. So this year I came prepared!”

And does “prepared” include some good long underwear?

Liv Tyler’s Mom Has A Verbal Throwdown With Dina Lohan

We hope you’re ready for a good old fashioned celebrity mom fight, folks. Because it’s Friday afternoon and that’s what you’re gonna get. Liv Tyler’s mom, former model and 70s heartthrob Bebe Buell, went on a major rant in Steppin’ Out magazine about what she sees as the parental failings of Lindsay Lohan’s mom, Dina. “Dina Lohan’s relationship with her daughter Lindsay disturbs me,” she said. “I don’t see a mother and a daughter there. What her mother has done with Lindsay is morally wrong and disgusting. She should back off.”

Buell knows a thing or two about tricky relations with her kids; for years she told daughter Liv that rocker Todd Rundgren was her father, in order to sheild her from the growing substance problems of her real dad, Steven Tyler. Clearly that’s a tough call, but Bebe feels like Lindsay would benefit from her hands-on style. “If Lindsay spent a year with me I could turn her around. I could have her winning her first Oscar in two years!” Her unorthodox technique? Kidnapping, mainly. ”If my baby girl got that screwed up I would NOT allow to make her own decisions. I would abduct my child and I would make sure that I didn’t leave her side until she didn’t have those problems anymore.” Err, we hate to side with the Lohan’s on anything, but we’re not totally sure if that’s how “problems” of any size get solved. Regardless, you might wanna change the locks, Lindsay.

Paul McCartney’s Ballet Premiere Draws A Star Studded Crowd

Here at The FAB Life, they don’t come much bigger than one of the original fabs, Paul McCartney! The legend added a new notch to his musical resume last night with the New York City premiere of his ballet composition, Ocean’s Kingdom. It was certainly a family affair, as Paul was joined in Lincoln Center by his fashionista daughter Stella, musician son James, and rumored fiancee Nancy Shevell. But even more stars turned out by the galaxy-load to watch the unveiling of the work for themselves. Sarah Jessica Parker turned up in what appeared to be a lace tablecloth, while the lovely Liv Tyler shown in a see-through black gown. A very trim Alec Baldwin kept things classy in a tux, while Jon Bon Jovi and Little Stevie Van Zandt kept the rock ‘n’ roll flag flying high. And Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees made an appearance to up the WTF factor. He’s had an opening in his calender since 1969.

On the way to the theater, the-still-pretty-cute Beatle admitted to feeling “quietly confident and nervous” about how his work would go down with the crowd of famous faces. “I’d seen the great traditional ballets like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, but I had a very limited knowledge of ballet,” he told the Press Association. “Since this project I’ve obviously started to take notice.” But don’t except him to pirouette for us anytime soon. “I went to see Giselle recently in London and was bowled over by the sheer athleticism of the dancers,” he said. “The next day I tried to do one of the steps and failed dismally.” Although our idolization of him is so intense, we’d gladly pay big bucks for a show called Paul McCartney Fails At Dancing For Two Hours. The Full 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards Red Carpet Report

The 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards took place last night at Lincoln Center in New York City. The show saw some serious fashionista traffic, but we have to admit we expected it to be a tad more A-List. Still, can’t complain with the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio in a red-hot Prabal Gurung dress and Liv Tyler in an unusual Proenza Schouler silk printed sheath. Both ladies showed a fair amount of back! We also loved Kerry Washington‘s simple white A-Line Calvin Klein dress and Lucy Liu‘s dramatic black Monique Lhuillier gown. Miranda Kerr looked heart-stoppingly sexy in her black Michael Kors skirt and cut-out body suit. But the big winner of the night was Lady Gaga who scooped up the Fashion Icon Award, bringing her sister Natali Germanotta as her date.

Unfortunately, there were a couple of fashion fails as well. Chloe Sevigny looked like she had forgotten to do up the top of her leather ruffle eyelet blouse from her own collection. Marcia Cross wore an inexplicable Pamella Roland blue sequined halter jumpsuit and Naomi Watts looked generically pretty but very blah in her Calvin Klein gold dress. We also love us some Ashley Greene but she just wasn’t working her two-tone Michael Kors dress, like a pregnant Jessica Alba worked the same trend in DVF. Perhaps it’s because Ashley’s clunky shoes were all wrong. One look at Gerard Butler in his snug, extremely well-cut suit, and all was well again. Steven Tyler’s Grandson Won’t Watch Idol, Says Daughter Liv

While Liv Tyler watches American Idol to support her father Steven (“I love it”) she admitted to Extra that her 6-year-old son Milo is not a fan. “You know what’s really funny? Milo does not want to watch it. and gets really grumpy with me, like, ‘We are NOT watching American Idol!’” she laughed. “And I’m like ‘excuse me, young man! We have to watch!’”

“It’s right at that time of, you know, bedtime and story time,” she explained, “well, that’s [Milo's] lame excuse.” We can’t blame her for being suspicious. A little boy who’d rather go to bed and have mom read a story than stay up late to watch TV? It probably has something to do with watching his goofball Grandpa strut and shriek at the drop of a hat. Milo probably gets enough of that on holidays.

Poll: Who Had The Most Unflattering Outfit At The Go International Designer Launch?

We’re used to seeing Chloe Sevigny deck herself out in bizarro fashions on a regular basis, but she really outdid herself at the Go International Designer Collective launch party with her leopard-bow tie-garter ensemble. The things is, she seemed to take all the other normally trendy, stylish women in attendance down with her, which is unfortunate. Liv Tyler, Olivia Munn, and Lake Bell (pictured in our gallery below) all wore some weird variation of high-waisted mini-skirt and none of them really looked amazing, to tell the truth. Take out poll below and, in the grand tradition of American Idol, vote for the worst.

Nicole Richie Lays On The Leather At Paris Fashion Week

Though Nicole Richie displayed her “flower girl” aesthetic at the Jean-Paul Gaultier show the day before, she certainly didn’t look like any kind of hippie at Givenchy’s show at Paris Fashion Week earlier today. The socialite sat by the runway with Florence Welch in a tight, sleeveless leather dress that seemed to leave her a little chilly in the chestular region. Dig those snakeskin shoes! Fake or no, we’re pretty sure PETA would prefer she just wore a shirt with a painting of a dog on it like Liv Tyler did.

Chris Brown And Courtney Love Show Their Faces At Marina Abramovic Party

From the middle of March til the end of May, performance artist Marina Abramovic spent every day sitting silently at the Museum of Modern Art in NY as part of her The Artist Is Present exhibit, while “visitors were encouraged to sit silently across from the artist for a duration of their choosing, becoming participants in the artwork.” Finally, after days upon days upon days of holding her bladder (Abramovic claims she held in her bodily functions during the eight hour stints) and being stared upon by the curious, the obsessed, the teary-eyed and even the famous (Lou Reed! James Franco! Kim Cattrall!), it was time for Abramovic to hobnob with the cultural elite at a wrap party. Attending alongside that elite were such unexpected celebs as the cosmetically altered Courtney Love and the cosmetically altering Chris Brown—two people we’d hate to be stuck across from for any length of time. Kelly Osbourne and Shannen Doherty were seated together at the G-Star Raw show at NYC Fashion Week yesterday, and we can’t think of a more inspired pairing. Kelly got her big break stomping angrily around her house on The Osbournes, being frutstrated by her misunderstanding parents, her obnoxious brother (who was younger but always acted older) and vain boyfriend (remember the singer from The Used?). Shannen, of course, was Brenda on Beverly Hills, 90210, where she stomped around her house, frustrated by her misunderstanding parents, her obnoxious brother (who was her twin but always acted older) and vain boyfriend (Dylan!). Ironically, with the ex-Charmed star reportedly hawking a reality show, she might have been the one asking Kelly for career advice.
