Lauren Conrad traded The Hills for Mad Men at Avon’s “Champions Who Change Women’s Lives” event, pulling her hair back tighter than we’ve ever seen before with this retro look. Other glamorous ladies attending the function were Reese Witherspoon, Fergie, Courteney Cox and Paula Patton. Somehow we think Patrick Dempsey would have had a fine time even if his wife Jillian hadn’t come along.

Talk about truth in advertising. Pamela Anderson reminded everybody what real Hollywood style was at the Hollywood Style Awards in LA last night, baring her panty-clad crotch on the red carpet to the non-delight of her stylist’s daughter, who somehow got the unlucky job of holding Pam’s train. Other modern style icons at the event included Lauren Conrad, Hayden Panetierre, and Kim Kardashian’s ass. Check out all these ladies’ looks and more in the gallery below. Was leaving The Hills the best move Lauren Conrad made? We ask because it’s emerged that the movie rights to her book LA Candy have been bought. The “reality” show star released her debut “novel” in June (OK, we’re stopping the quotation marks now) and now Temple Hill Entertainment  - who produce the Twilight flicks! - have bought the rights to the thinly-fictionalized version of her story.

What’s more, she’s launched a new clothing line for Kohls’ store, after her last overpriced venture died a quick death. We’re sure LC’s new affordable venture will get more success than her last one, but couldn’t help raising our eyes somewhat when she says, “To be honest, if you are a great designer and you know what you’re doing, you don’t need to make very expensive clothing.” Yeah - stick that in your pipe Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Rodarte, Versace, Gucci and the rest of you, and smoke it! They may not be on the same show anymore, but rivals Lauren Conrad and Kristin Cavallari still have to come to the same events and compete for camera time. At last night’s VMAs, Cavallari stuck to the shiny theme that so many others were enamored by (en-armored by? ‘Cause it looks like — nevermind), going for a tight disco ball minidress, while LC opted for a demure “I’m totally more mature than that lying skank” look. Was LC’s look too blah, or was Kristin just one of the many sequined starlets? Who turned more heads before heading back to “The Hills?” And most importantly, can you feel the rain on your skin?
