The Costume Designers Guild Awards Get A Little Loud

Anna Paquin, Emily Blunt and Mona May

Was last night Hot Mess Night and no one told us? While the Character Approved Awards were confusing passerby in NYC, the Costume Designer’s Guild Awards was bringing the noise in Beverly Hills. Ladies like Anna Paquin, Emily Blunt, Kristen Bell and Anna Kendrick—not to mention fashion-forward fellows like Eddie Izzard and Alan Cummings—were on hand to celebrate those who keep actors looking great on screen. While you’d expect such stylists to make a big impression on the carpet, some—we’re looking at you (and quickly looking away), Mona May—might have been trying a little too hard. See who wore what in the gallery below.

Kristen Bell Engaged To Dax Shepard

Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard

When In Rome’s Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are getting married! “Yes they are engaged,” a rep told People. “[It happened] over the holidays.” Wow, that long ago? Must have been hard for Bell to pose ringless and apart from her fiancee on the red carpet at their Rome’s premiere last week. Were they keeping mum out of professional courtesy? Maybe someone thought it’d be distracting for fans to know one of Bell’s unwelcome suitors in the film had already locked that down. Not that their relationship was a secret after paps caught them grappling underwater on a Hawaiian vacation in 2008.

With their movie’s crucial first weekend out of the way, Bell was free to sport her ring while giving a Grammy to Taylor Swift last night. Take a look at the stone in the gallery below.

Kristen Bell Throws Us A Rope

Kristen Bell

When In Rome is Kristen Bells first big romantic lead role, so we couldn’t blame the Veronica Mars star if she had a knot in her stomach at last night’s LA premiere. We’re not so sure about the knot on her stomach, though, but we like the voice of Gossip Girl too much to sweat whether she really pulls this umbilical awkwardness off or not. Doesn’t look like we’re alone in our enthusiasm for Miss Bell, either—Bradley Cooper, Justin Long, Rose McGowan and Kristins Cavallari and Chenowith all showed up on the red carpet, along with Bell’s co-stars Dax Shepard, Jon Heder, Will Arnett and Josh Duhamel—the last of whom brought along a little lady named Fergie. Heard of her? See what she wore in the gallery below.

Critics’ Choice Awards Live Blog Party

critics-choice-awards-lineup1

The media is going gaga over Sunday’s Golden Globes, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, people. Do the Globes have Nick Jonas & The Administration as its house band? Do the Globes have Adam Lambert and Sarah Silverman presenting an award together (spoiler: expect something memorable)? Are John Krasinski, Amy Poehler and Death Cab for Cutie paying tribute to John Hughes at the Golden Globes? True, the Globes have funnyman Ricky Gervais as its host, but is he as easy on the eyes as funny girl and CCMA host Kristin Chenoweth? Of course not!

That’s why you’ll want to watch VH1 tonight at 9PM EST (red carpet, 8:30) and join our Critics’ Choice Blog Party right here or via mobile by texting PARTY to 22422. Blogging along with us are our pals Moviefone, The Envelope, The Huffington Post, BestWeekEver and fashion experts Refinery29.

Jackson, Tobey Maguire, Amy Poehler, Zoe Saldana and Susan Sarandon. Critics’ Choice is known as the best barometer for who will win at the Academy Awards. EXCLUSIVE: It’s Anything Goes As Adam Lambert, Sarah Silverman Take Critics’ Choice Stage

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards isn’t known for drama. It’s known for its uncanny tendency to predict Oscar winners. That’s why Adam Lambert and Sarah Silverman presenting an award together at the show might feel like a wolf pack of two casing a herd of fenced-in sheep. Need we remind you that “Good Morning America” recently cut an upcoming Adam Lambert performance after his same sex AMAs kiss? Remember Sarah dissing both Paris Hilton and Hollywood at the MTV Movie Awards? Now we have two of America’s most provocative mainstream personalities on the same  stage at the same time talking to a captive group of Hollywood’s elite. And we haven’t even mentioned that Tracy  Morgan is also presenting!

Additional higlights of the show: Nick Jonas & The Administration will serve as the Critics’ Choice house band; special tribute will be paid to recently deceased director John Hughes by John Krasinski, Amy Poehler and Death Cab for Cutie, which will perform “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from “The Breakfast Club”; and Kevin Bacon will be presented with a philanthropic award by no less than Meryl Streep. Additional presenters include Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Emily Blunt, Cedric the Entertainer, Bradley Cooper, Rob Corddry, Abbie Cornish, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Vera Farmiga, Heather Graham, Ed Helms, Samuel L. Jackson, Ken Jeong, Tobey Maguire, Amy Poehler, Craig Robinson, Zoe Saldana and Susan Sarandon.

Hosted by Kristin Chenoweth, Critics’ Choice will air live on VH1 Friday, Jan. 15 at 9:00PM ET. Check back here as we live-blog the show with our partner sites, including AOL’s Moviefone, The Envelope, The Huffington Post, BestWeekEver and fashion experts Refinery29. Style Wars: Blondes In Booties

Hills stars Stephanie Pratt and Lo Bosworth arrived alongside Hills alum Lauren Conrad to a launch party for video game Assassin’s Creed II. We’re hoping free drinks were involved. The leg-baring blonde trio coordinated in various booties paired with short dresses. Who wore the look best?

See Kristen Bell looking classy with red lips and “Gossip Girl”’s Jessica Szohr (seemingly) without makeup below.

Comic-Con: Geek Fest No More

attendees

What was once an intimate geekapalooza has now evolved into a gathering of the hottest bodies in Hollywood. The beautiful people continue to flock to San Diego for this weekend’s annual Comic-Con, which celebrates the comic book’s contribution to mainstream culture. Zoe Saldana, Kristen Bell, Olivia Wilde, Audrina Patridge, Megan Fox, Cameron Diaz, and of course the cast of New Moon are some of the attendees heating things up. Often elusive but always gorgeous Johnny Depp even made a surprise appearance when friend and director Tim Burton presented their highly anticipated film, Alice in Wonderland. With the influx of celebrities at Comic-Con in recent years, we just hope there are still plenty of these guys wandering the booths. [Photos: Getty Images]

Critics’ Choice: Slumdog Scoops Up 5 Awards

The 14th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, often a harbinger for the Oscars, gave Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire best picture, best director, best writer, best composer and best young actor. Sean Penn (Milk) won best actor and best actress was divided between Meryl Streep (Doubt) and Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married).

While Hathaway’s acceptance speech was poignant, the most wringing moment of the night (as evidenced by Angelina Jolie’s teary eyes) came when Heath Ledger won a posthumous best supporting actor award for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

See the full winners list at the 2009 Critics’ Choice Awards website, and check out red carpet photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Marisa Tomei, Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Kate Beckinsale and many others.
