BAFTA Awards: Hot Stuff And Hot Messes Across The Pond

The fact that the British Film and Television Awards took place on the same day as the Grammys probably only annoys folks like us, who would really like to be giving both events our full attention. And so it goes that we basically ignored the U.K.’s Oscars, missing adorable speeches from The Artist’s Jean Dujardin and Michel Hazanavicius (whose Best Actor and Best Director wins were two of seven awards for the film), and not catching that cute moment in which Best Actress winner Meryl Streep lost her shoe climbing the stairs to the stage and Colin Firth ran to get it for her and place it on her feet. Until now, of course. On the red carpet, there were a handful of A-listers, a few Mad Men and Downton Abbey faves, and a lot of Brits that haven’t fully crossed over to the states yet. To our slight disappointment, there weren’t too many total fashion fails, but we managed to find a few (Oh, Christina Hendricks, why must you do that to your body?). Mostly, though, we saw some sexy strutting from the likes of Viola Davis, Christina Ricci and Brad Pitt. See for yourself who was hot, and who was just a hot mess, in the gallery below.

BAFTA’s Britannia Awards Bring Out Brits, Babes And Ben Stiller

The British invaded L.A.’s Beverly Hilton last night for the 2011 Britannia Awards! The event was held by the BAFTA organization’s Los Angeles chapter, and featured familiar faces like Helena Bonham Carter, Helen Mirren, and Felicity Jones. The Americans were well represented too, with the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Robin Williams and Ben Stiller in attendance. Ben was honored with an award for Excellence In Comedy, which he accepted with (we hope!) a sense of humor. “It’s important to get and give awards and to strive to win awards,” he joked with ET. “I feel as long as people are giving awards or getting awards, for human interaction, it just helps people.”

The Britannia Awards are seen as the low-key anti-Oscars, focusing more on artistic staying power and less on box office receipts and buzz. “It’s all about people who have contributed things over their careers,” explained host Alan Cumming, “so it’s less faddy and markety and less current, and more about celebrating these people for what they’ve done over their entire lives.” Helena Bonham Carter was also honored for her body of work, as was screen legend Warren Beatty and director John Lasseter. Emma Watson Delivers Squee Overload At Deathly Hallows Premiere

Awwww, you guysssss! We’re getting down to the last couple Harry Potter premieres we’ll ever get to see, and we can hear the sobs of Potter-Heads and apprentice wizards all over the world. It feels like graduation day or something (can someone please cue up that Vitamin C song?).

The cast was in full-on premiere gear at the red carpet event today. Redhead Rupert Grint was dapper in his dark suit, Helena Bonham Carter was straight out of old Hollywood in a floral cap and bad-ass shades and Daniel Radcliffe looked like he raided his How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying wardrobe in a 60s-inspired three piece ensemble. But Emma Watson totally stole the show in an Oscar de la Renta dress that would put Cinderella to shame. We can’t handle the number of her squee-inducing poses in the gallery below. Can you?

Oscar Flashback: Red Carpet Memories From 2011′s Nominees

While some first-time nominees like Christian Bale have never attended the Oscars, plenty of this year’s crop have been red carpet regulars. Nicole Kidman‘s first time at the Academy Awards was just over twenty years ago, back when she was Tom Cruise‘s arm candy. “I just was like absolutely stunned,” she said recently. “It was like the biggest thing I had ever seen. I couldn’t believe how loud the photographers were.” Do you remember which Best Actor hopeful brought his mom the first time he was up for the trophy ten years? Or which two ladies up for a trophy in 2011 previously competed against each other in 2006? Find out all this and more—like who went with Ed Begley Jr. right before hooking up with her future husband—by checking out the gallery below.

The Craziest Red Carpet Looks Of Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter is gorgeous, talented, and a walking fashion disaster. But at least she knows it. When she was recently asked about what she plans to wear at the upcoming Academy Awards, Bonham Carter responded “I have no idea. Of course I want to have fun…It’s probably going to be a catastrophe. But it’s like, I’m gonna go for it.”

The actress, who is nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The King’s Speech, is eccentric to say the least when it comes to her red carpet style. Most recently, she was called out for wearing two different colored shoes at the Golden Globes this year, but she, and we, embrace the weirdness. So this is hardly a worst-dressed list or a post making fun of the woman we love for embodying Bellatrix LeStrange, the Queen Mother and human pie-maker Mrs. Lovett. Rather, it’s a celebration of her offbeat style, her penchant for teasing her hair to the heavens and then sticking stuff in it, and her bizarre accessories. Which look do you find most entertaining?

Stars Stand Proud At The Oscar Nominees Luncheon

Before celebs can scoop up their Academy Awards later this month, first—if they want a better of shot of winning—they have to attend the show’s nominees luncheon. This year was no different, with potential “best” actors, actresses, supporting actors and supporting actresses all posing under a giant Oscar that stared down upon them like some ancient god. Natalie Portman, showing her trademark tact, didn’t highlight her baby bump, preferring to keep it hidden under a blue sash. But if we had to give anyone at yesterday’s function a trophy, it would be Mark Wahlberg for Trooper Of The Year, showing up as one of The Fighter‘s producers, despite being the only major cast member of The Fighter not to get an acting nomination, he still showed up, bas one of the film’s producers. He also served as a stand-in for the absent likely Supporting Actor winner Christian Bale. Can’t let Avengers Mark “Hulk” Ruffalo and Jeremy “Hawkeye” Renner steal the trophy out from under Batman!

The Top Five Worst Dressed At The Golden Globes: Beauties Dressing Badly

globes_flops

There’s no denying the actresses featured in our Golden Globes worst dressed list are beautiful. Some would argue that they could wear a potato sack and look better than most the U.S. population. Sadly for these five lovely ladies, we’re in the business of both praising and criticizing celebrity fashion.

Tonight Halle Berry wore a bizarre black gown, Helena Bonham Carter went stylistically bananas, and Heidi Klum managed to miraculously look less-than-perfect. Gabourey Sidibe chose an unfortunate printed frock and one of our favorite fashionistas Michelle Williams fell from grace. Take a closer look at our top five worst dressed at the 2011 Golden Globes. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows World Premiere!

hp_7_main

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of Harry Potter fans around the world hyperventilating. The first installment of the two-part epic Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows opens wide next Friday, but the cast kicked off festivities last night with the world premiere gala in London. Leading gents Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint looked dapper in dark suits, but costar Emma Watson stole the show (and our hearts) in a gorgeous black lace semi-see-through number. Scandalous! Perhaps she’s trying to catch Dan-Rad’s eye for Round Two of ambushing him with her lips. (jk, guys.)

Speaking of JK (*zing*), her majesty The Rowling looked dazzlingly elegant in a black gown. Helena Bonham Carter did not disappoint in her crazed Amy-Winehouse-On-A-Bender-At-Prom inspired outfit, and even Lisa Marie Presley made an appearance. Why? Because she could. Check out your favorite wizards, muggles and those-who-shall-not-be-named in the gallery below!

Marion Cotillard Jabbed With French Award Pin

Marion Cotillard & Frederic Mitterand

Marion Cotillard had an award-related mishap in Paris today, with French culture minister Frederic Mitterand accidentally stabbing her in the chest with the pin of her “Order Of Arts And Letters” medallion, which she was awarded alongside Alice In Wonderland director Tim Burton, who will also lead the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival (might be a good year to enter something spooky and/or based on a children’s story, directors. Just saying.).

See photos of Cotillard, Burton and Helena Bonham Carter—in her finest “crazy old British lady” wear, of course—in the gallery below.

Style Wars: The Queens Vs. Alice

The fashion at the world premiere of Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland was just as dark as his gothic interpretation of Lewis Carroll‘s classic tale. Aussie newcomer Mia Wasikowska (Alice) held her own alongside silver screen veterans Anne Hathaway (The White Queen) and Burton’s wife Helena Bonham Carter (The Red Queen). Wasikowska wore an open-backed laced gown, Hathaway sex’d it up in a slinky bronze dress, and Bonham Carter donned an expectedly kooky ensemble. Which Wonderland star looked the most glamorous?
