The Amazing Spider-Man Trailer: 10 Moments That Make Our Senses Tingle

The Amazing Spider-Man trailer premiered online overnight, everyone. And we have lots to say about it. Comic book movies walk a fine line: Not only do they have to appeal to the finicky, very-observant comic book geeks, but if they’re going to get butts in seats, they’ve got to reel in (sorry) the people who think comics are synonymous with Sunday morning “Garfield” strips. Humor, big-name actors and lots of fancy special effects go a long way to grab nongeeks. Also sex appeal. That last Spider-Man series recognized as much when they came up with that hot and heavy upside down kiss between Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Now, let’s take a look at how Andrew Garfield and real-life girlfriend Emma Stone will live up to — or surpass — their legacy. Here’s a top 10 countdown:

Black Gowns Galore On The 2012 SAG Awards Red Carpet

Classic black never goes out of style. There may have been a fair amount of neutrals and grays and bold colors on the 2012 Sag Awards red carpet last night, but black actually outnumbered them all. None of the gowns veered towards goth territory, either, as all the styles went the romantic or slightly edgy route.

We saw drapes on the likes of Melissa McCarthy’s Badgley Mischka, Archie Panjabi’s one-shouldered Carolina Herrera and Angelina Jolie’s Jenny Packham halter-necked gown. The latter was a little too safe for our liking. Wearing the same designer was Ashlee Simpson, whose dress was similar to the number Vanessa Hudgens wore to the People’s Choice Awards. No contest here: Ashlee wore the better version.

Amber Heard killed it in a Zac Posen cut-out dress and guess who wore the same designer? Glenn Close! She rocked that gown and her compatriot Jessica Lange did the same in a slinky sequined David Meister number. Both the ladies are still so sexy in their 60s! Joining the sequin brigade was Jayma Mays‘ beautiful Reem Acra gown with a dramatic demi-train. We saw a lot of lace overlay as well, whether it was in Amber Riley’s Badgley Mischka, Stacy Keibler’s Marchesa or Emma Stone’s custom Alexander McQueen. We’d also like to hand out top marks to our favourite 30 Rock ladies for bringing on the fabulous. Tina Fey looked very sexy in her vintage Versace gown as did Jane Krakowski in Antonio Berardi. Everyone did really good here, and black was anything but boring. The only celebrity we wish had upped the stakes was Glee’s Heather Morris. Her half-sheer Masai Payan dress just didn’t work.

We’d love to hear your opinions so click through our gallery and sound off in the comments section.

Put A Bird On It! Aviarian Influences At The 2012 Golden Globes

You know the old saying, “Two is coincidence but three makes a trend?” Well, at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards tonight, one of the more sly trends of the evening was ushered in by the unlikely trio of Dianna Agron, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone. Specifically, all three were wearing outfits that were either made from or paid tribute to our fine feathered friends, birds.

Evan Rachel Wood led the way with her stunning Gucci Premiere gown, which was decked out with shimmery bird feathers that reminded this viewer more than a little of Black Swan. Glee star Dianna Agron dazzled in another avarian-inspired outfit, which was designed by Giles and featured laser-cut swans (or so she told E! red carpet correspondent Giulana Rancic). Lastly, Emma Stone kept her dress in place with a sparkly eagle belt, which may or may not have been modeled after the most patriotic of the Muppets, Sam the Eagle. (Hint: It almost certainly wasn’t.)

10 Best-Dressed At The People’s Choice Awards

As expected, there was a lot of traffic on the red carpet for the People’s Choice Awards and we’re happy to report that some new faces popped up on the best-dressed radar. We welcome Ashley Benson into the fold. She wore an adorable, trumpet-skirted, white (with a black underskirt peeking out) Alice + Olivia frock that we now covet. Also wearing the same designer was a very pregnant Alyson Hannigan who wore a form-fitting, embellished sheath that showed off her bump. Her How I Met Your Mother co-star and close friend Cobie Smulders rocked it in a strapless, electric-blue Reema Acra dress. That incredible gold necklace you see on her is by Etro. Blue works like a charm for Cobie — remember her turquoise Grecian gown at the Emmys last year? Julianne Hough is also on the list and she gets the sexiest ever award in a sizzling silver chainmail Kaufman Franco dress. It clung to every curve but covered everything up in the front. But when she turned — bam — totally backless. Faith Hill — who sang at the show — looked like a beautiful, tall drink of water in a tangerine, halter-necked cocktail dress.

Now to the usual suspects. Miley Cyrus and Lea Michele both wore white but to very different effects. Miley wore a very original David Koma dress which had a sheer panel down the front — it didn’t look smutty at all — and a touch of colorful texturing at the hem. Lea wore a spectacular flapper-like Marchesa dress with a draped back. It was possibly our pick for the night, especially paired with her slash of pink lipstick. Kristen Bell chose one of our favorite designers, Valentino, and wore a lovely sheer blouse and skirt in the punchy shade of vermilion. Chloe Moretz looked fabulous in a green-and-black, edgy Proenza Schouler dress — trust her to pick the coolest designers at 14. It’s beyond us. Rounding up the list, and making us want to say “Top of the mornin’ to ya,” is Emma Stone. It’s the most unusual outfit for the awards show, but she nails it. Emma wore head-to-toe Gucci with a shamrock green tuxedo jacket, black cigarette pants and white silk shirt that had two long panels trailing out.

Have a look at our gallery below to check out the outfits we’ve outlined above. We’d love to hear your thoughts!

People’s Choice Awards Cutest Moments

The People have spoken. They apparently like Supernatural more than The Vampire Diaries, but we’ll forgive them for that, because they made some other good choices that wound up giving us a pretty cute People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night. Like any awards show, there was singing, dancing and overly scripted jokes. Also there were kisses and giggles and sweet thank yous. We thought we’d highlight a few of our faves:

10. We saw Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence bonding backstage with co-star Liam Hemsworth’s gf Miley Cyrus. Good thing they get along nicely!

9. Emma Stone, daring to be different in her awesome green tux jacket, managed to make a clichéd message sound sweet: ” You have to stay true to yourself and don’t be afraid even if people say what you do isn’t cool.”

8. Paul Wesley called Ian Somerhalder “Smolderholder” as he opened the envelope for the Favorite Comedy Movie award.

7. Lea Michele pointed out her cousin in the audience WHO LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE LEA MICHELE.

6. Ian Somerhalder was sitting next to Nina Dobrev when she won Favorite TV Drama Actress, but he tweeted her anyway: Congratulations Nina!!! You won!!!! People DO like you;) You rock babe, truly.”

5. Chloe Moretz realized she’s too young to really say “when I was a kid” and then she ended her speech like she was on the phone with all of us, “All right, bye.” Bye, Chloe, see you soon!

10 Best-Dressed Ladies At The National Board of Review Awards Gala

So many stars to choose from, such little time. The National Board of Review Awards Gala took place last night at Cipriani’s New York, and it turned out to be a very fashionable red carpet. We culled the top 10 for you, but it wasn’t easy. We were especially pleased with Chloe Moretz, who wore a lovely cherry-red Miu Miu belted coat dress, and Viola Davis who was equally bright and beautiful in a fuchsia Lauren by Ralph Lauren cowl dress. She paired her outfit with House of Lavande jewels and Jimmy Choo sandals. Stacy Keibler picked a flowing black Marchesa silk crepe gown with a bejeweled neckline, but her best accessory was boyfriend, George Clooney, of course.

Cocktail frocks were all the rage at the event too. Keira Knightley wore a black, lace-panelled Nina Ricci dress, while Emma Stone picked a cream J. Mendel number. Rooney Mara looked very chic in a minimal austere Miu Miu dress with YSL pumps, whereas Jessica Chastain went the opposite direction in a balloon-skirted, chinoiserie embroidered Zac Posen. Felicity Jones picked a very sexy, sheer Dolce & Gabbana corseted outfit and Naomi Watts wore a slinky black dress with gold chainmail detailing. James Franco’s ex, Ahna O’Reilly, rounds up the list in a fun, striped, ’40s-inspired silhouette. Have a look at all our picks in the gallery below.

15 Best Looks: The Ladies From The Help Need No Help With Red Carpet Fashion

This is one very stylish set of women. The Help is up for Best Ensemble at the Critic’s Choice Movie Awards next week. It’s airing live from the Hollywood Palladium at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 12, on VH1. We’ve already shown you Jessica Chastain‘s 20 Hottest Looks, but felt we needed to see a lot more of the rest of the star cast. It’s incredible to have so many strong, talented, beautiful women act in one movie, and we can’t wait to see them own the red carpet next week. Three of the leads — Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer — really caught our eye, and we’re wondering what they’re going to pull out of the bag, sartorially. It’s a big night, so we’re expecting some serious fashion. To refresh our memories, and yours, we decided to pull out each of the three ladies’ top five looks from 2011. Octavia favors cocktail dresses, which she heats up with some great accessories like leopard-print shoes and metallic clutches. Viola likes punchy, bright colors and can wear the hell out of a gown. Emma can pull off just about anything, which is why she made it to our list of 30 Best Dressed Stars Of 2011. Want to see for yourself? Click on our gallery below.

Who Is Jim Carrey’s Lady Friend?

When we saw photos of Jim Carrey and a blond lady friend hand-in-hand at the Guns’n'Roses concert in California late Wednesday night, a couple of dots connected. The picture on the left is of them leaving the venue. The picture on the right is Carrey — are those his grafitti jeans? — with the same woman in New York City a little more than three months ago. Hand-in-hand again. So this things of theirs has been happening for a while now? Time to ask some questions. Like … who is she? What’s the deal? Is Jim already over Emma Stone? Spill, please!

Celebrities Pay Tribute To Pedro Almodovar At MOMA

The Museum of Modern Art’s Fourth Annual Film benefit, A Tribute to Pedro Almodovar, had celebrities lined up to pay homage to the Spanish director. A few of the stars had been to the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund Awards the previous night, making this second round of dress-up all the more impressive. Two nights out and we’re half dead under our charcoal face masks, but not these ladies. Blake Lively, Chloe Moretz, Anna Wintour, Drew Barrymore, Emma Stone and Sarah Jessica Parker all wore Chanel, while Miranda Kerr was rocking a bizarre, patterned Peter Pilotto dress. Drew also brought her latest boyfriend, Will Kopelman. The evening included video messages to Almodovar from friends Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, as well as montage of highlights from his films.

We know you want to see what everyone wore, so go ahead and check out our gallery.
