Eric Northman, Bella Swan, Count Chocula Top Celebs’ 2011 Vampire Picks

Since we listed our 25 favorite vampires of 2011 last week and asked you to vote for your own, the polls have been HOT. Edward and Damon are neck and neck, but Bones is coming up from behind, as book fans seem to have caught onto the race. It’s exciting to watch on our end (Vampire Academy fans from Russia are a force to be reckoned with!), so we decided to leave polls open until 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. In the meantime, let’s look back at who this unusual collection of celebrities would name Vampire of the Year for 2011.

“Anyone from True Blood. They’re all brilliant and fabulous,” Heather Matarazzo told us. And her sentiments were echoed by True Blood werewolf Joe Manganiello: “It would probably be a tie between Stephen Moyer and Alex Skarsgard. I really can’t pick one or the other.”

Alexander Skarsgard’s dad obviously is a big Eric Northman fan as well. “It’s my vampire genes!” Stellan Skarsgard told us.

Bella Swan!” Elizabeth Reaser said, choosing her on-screen daughter-in-law over her own adoptive “children.”

David Cook
went old school, ignoring the “of 2011″ part of the title and choosing Brad Pitt’s Louis de Ponte du Lac from Interview With a Vampire.

Then there were the even less-obvious choices. Questlove nominated Count Chocula. “Hands down, he’s been vampire of the year for me for the last couple of decades.”

Elizabeth Reaser On Snow White And The Huntsman: “Kristen Looks Amazing, Charlize Is A Crazy Bad-Ass”

Elizabeth Reaser is amazing as Beth in Young Adult. Understated, honest, confident and cool; she’s the perfect complement to Charlize Theron‘s brash, relentless Mavis. (Have you guys seen it? Go go go!) We caught up with the actress and Twilight alum at the LA premiere of the Jason Reitman-directed film (which as been nominated for three Critics’ Choice Awards) and chatted with her about her character and New Year’s resolutions. And then of course we had to ask her this: having worked with both Charlize and Kristen Stewart, which actress does she think will kick more ass in Snow White and the Huntsman?

Look, we’re stumped on this question ourselves. Obviously we have a little bit of a KStew fangirl thing going on (okay, it’s more like ‘a lot bit’) and she looks amazingly tough and fearless as Snow White. Girlfriend leads an army on horseback, for crying out loud! But Charlize radiates badassness both in the SWATH trailer and in real life, and her kickassery skills are second to none. Is it possible that they will kick equal amounts of ass? Could it be? Knowing these two amazing ladies, we don’t doubt it. Check out Liz’s very awesome answer above. (Unrelated: how gorgeous is her hair? Can we have hair like that, please?)

Young Adult Authors Shouldn’t Take Young Adult Personally, Says Diablo Cody

When the first images from Young Adult surfaced on the Web earlier this year, showing Charlize Theron looking bedraggled in her sweats and Mickey Mouse shirt, clutching a Pomeranian in a carrier and a Victoria’s Secret bag, several young adult authors I know took to Twitter immediately. They seemed torn between being excited about the existence of a movie about their profession, especially one written by Diablo Cody and directed by Jason Reitman, and slightly horrified by the idea of being depicted as ladies who can’t be bothered to brush their hair and put on a decent pair of pants before leaving the house. And then when they learned Charlize’s character, Mavis Gary, is kind of a crazy stalker who can’t let go of her high school years, they were a bit worried.

“I watched [the trailer], and I was like, ‘Oh, this is going to give my profession a bad name!” Mortal Instruments series author Cassandra Clare told TheFABlife last week. At the same time, she added, “I really want to see it, because when will there be another movie about a young adult author?”

But Cody, who calls herself “the Sweet Valley superfan of all time” and is writing an upcoming adaptation of Sweet Valley High, is pretty sure there won’t be a huge outcry from the YA author community. “Mavis is one of a kind. I don’t think it’s an indictment of young adult authors as a group. It’s just this one lady is a little bit off-kilter,” she assured us at the movie’s New York premiere. And though she previously only knew Sweet Valley creator Francine Pascal, “since this movie has been screening, I have met some [YA authors] that have come out of the woodwork, and they are all into the movie, so I’m glad.”

Breaking Dawn Star Nikki Reed Returns To Screenwriting Roots

Breaking Dawn Part 1 didn’t quite bring in as much box-office cash as the biggest Twilight movie so far, New Moon, but its $139.5 million opening places it at #5 of the all-time biggest debuts. It’s hard to remember that this mega franchise comes from humble indie roots — but one of the biggest reminders of that is how some of the stars are planning their post-Twilight futures.

Take Nikki Reed, for example. The actress who first came to Hollywood’s attention as the 13-year-old co-writer and co-star of Catherine Hardwicke‘s Thirteen wants to return to her first passion, writing.

“I’m working on a screenplay now,” she told TheFABlife last week. “It’s not autobiographical, but it’s based on a distant, distant family member. And I’m writing music with Paul, and I write on my blog all the time. And I’m thinking about a novel idea right now, so writing is probably my number one priority.”

After all the kerfuffle over Nikki’s quote in Seventeen magazine about not being best friends with the entire cast, we asked which co-stars and directors she’s dying to work with again.

All of them for different reasons. Right now I’m such a huge fan of Bill Condon‘s, that’s right there in the forefront of my mind. He’s so talented. I was a fan of his long before the series. But all of them for different reasons — Chris Weitz is so talented, David Slade, Catherine Hardwicke who I’ve worked with numerous times. Being in Breaking Dawn and having so many great scenes to work on with Kristen was so great. She and I have been close for many years. It was really exciting to be able to do that with her. And Elizabeth Reaser and Michael Sheen. It’s like, gosh, I don’t know. There is not one!”

If you have a sternum like that, plunging gowns are your best friend.

Breaking Dawn Black Carpet: Best Of The Sparkly Vampires And Humans

The scene at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 black-carpet premiere on Monday night was a motley mass of press, fans, totally random celebrities (and Kardashians) and, of course, the stars and crew that created this little thing we call Twilight. As has come to be expected of the franchise, even the castmembers with the smallest parts put on their fanciest getups and were treated like A-listers by the fans. Casey LaBow was, well, daring in a yellow and gold mini-dress with gray feather details. Ashley Stewart’s amazing makeup made up for the fact that her dress distractingly reminded us of a candy cane. Christian Serratos‘ sleeveless, flowing hot-pink gown and Elizabeth Reaser‘s maroon sequined, long-sleeved number nearly stole the show. That is, until the real star of the evening showed up. Then we couldn’t tear our eyes away from Kristen Stewart‘s sparkly black-and-blue J. Mendel gown with the slit up to there. And when she kicked off her heels and put on those trademark sneaks, we knew our girl had arrived. Check out our picks for the best dressed vamps and humans at the big event, and stay tuned later for tons more Breaking Dawn coverage.

Kristen Stewart Has “Grown A Lot,” Says Co-Star

We had a serious sit down with the Cullen family matriarch, Elizabeth Reaser, at the Breaking Dawn press junket and she didn’t hesitate when we which of her castmates had grown the most over the course of the Twilight franchise.

“Kristen seems to have grown a lot,” she said immediately. “She’s always been such a great actress and obviously she’s carrying this entire series on her back. … That we can even believe in this world is because we see it through Kristen’s eyes, and she makes it feel real. And I think that she just keeps growing as an actress, and I think it’s so exciting.”

In Breaking Dawn: Part 1 Kristen goes from portraying a high school girl to a wife and mother. Elizabeth tells us she was moved by her transformation. “I was completely blown away. I thought she was really wonderful. It was fun to watch her on set with a kid and to see how she handled that. It was pretty cute.”

Author Stephenie Meyer also spoke about the bond Kristen formed with her onscreen daughter, played by Mackenzie Foy. “She put so much thought into [playing a mom] beforehand,” said the author. “She kind of fell in love with Mackenzie. … She was a natural with it. She just got that instinct to protect on her own.”

How many of you are saying “Awwww!” right now? We are!

Twilight Imitates Life In Latest Breaking Dawn Stills

In the just-released stills from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Bella somewhat-uncomfortably rocks her fabulously sparkly wedding shoes, while Alice stands by with her Converse. Swap the bridal shoes for sky-high pumps and Ashley Greene for a publicist and you have essentially every red carpet Kristen Stewart has ever walked! Is there any way we’ll see Bella rockin’ some sneaks with her gown at the reception? We can only hope. [Photos: Summit Entertainment]
