Rachel Weisz’s L’Oreal Ad Banned In Britain For Being “Misleadingly Exaggerated”

Take a look at this photograph of Rachel Weisz for L’Oreal Revitalift. It isn’t risque at all, is it? But it still has been banned in the U.K. by the Advertising Standards Authority. Showing that advertising standards are getting a lot stricter, the ASA states its reason for the ban thusly: “[T]he image had been altered in a way that substantially changed her complexion to make it appear smoother and more even. We therefore concluded that the image in the ad therefore misleadingly exaggerated the performance of the product.”

Is this much ado about nothing or were they right to pull it down? They also banned Dakota Fanning‘s Marc Jacobs “Oh Lola” perfume ad for being inappropriate. On a side note: If you stare at the photograph for too long, Rachel looks like a mixture of Helena Christensen and J.Lo.

What Do You Think Of Dakota Fanning’s Pink Hair?

We’re amazed that Dakota Fanning is pulling off her pink tips. These photographs were taken as the actress exited Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills on Tuesday. We got a good look at her dip-dyed tresses and have decided we really like them. Maybe it’s also because of that outfit she’s wearing. We’re kind of loving the tailored white shirt, ankle boots and tan, batik-print skirt. Probably because we could never pull it off. But enough about us and what we think. We’d like to know if you like Dakota’s pink hair? Sound off in the comments section below.

Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Spot Joins The Long History Of Controversial Ads

Dakota Fanning’s banned Marc Jacobs ad was deemed too saucy for the good people of Britain early today, though so far the spot is considered safe for American eyes. Despite what you might think about the advert itself, Dakota (and Jacobs) certainly aren’t the first people to come up with a controversial campaign that had people gasping…or cringing…or just rolling their eyes. From the extremely sexual to the merely gross to the extremely sexual and gross, and starring celebs like Pamela Anderson, Keira Knightley and Jessica Alba, controversial ads are as common as, well, controversial ads getting banned. Check out some of the most memorable controversial advertising below!

Is Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Ad Really Racy Enough To Be Banned?

Dakota Fanning’s modeling career has been blowing up over the past year, but at least one country wants to shield its eyes from her edgy editorials. The U.K. Ad Standards Authority just ruled that Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Oh Lola ad was too racy to run. According to the British organization, Dakota’s spot was inappropriate due to “the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle” which “drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualize a child.” Call us liberal hippies (our moms already do!), but we honestly did not see a problem with this image … until we heard that it was controversial. Now the whole Lolita image is really skeeving us out. So what do you think? Does Dakota’s ad squeak you out too, or do you think the Brits are dropping their monocles over nothing?

Dakota Fanning And Tom Sturridge To Play Lovers In Effie

Dakota Fanning and Tom Sturridge will play lovers in the Emma Thompson-penned film Effie. The movie tells the tale of Euphemia Gray‘s (Fanning) torrid marriage to famous critic John Ruskin, to be played by Greg Wise. Ruskin refused to consummate their relationship, claiming he was grossed out by Effie’s body (er, weirdo) and she eventually falls in love and marries Ruskin’s protege, painter John Everett Millais (Sturridge). According to Deadline Hollywood, production begins October 17th, which means we’ve only got two months left until Tom shaves that dead wolf off his face! *cheers*

Extensive research (Wikipedia) reveals that this true story was massive scandal in Victorian England. Effie’s decision to annul her marriage even resulted in the Queen banning her from attending official Royal events. Harsh! But she clearly made the right decision: she and Millais went on to have eight children and she was an enormous influence on his artwork.

Knowing all this, we can’t wait to see this love triangle play out onscreen. With The King’s Speech becoming last year’s little movie that could, we have high hopes for every low budget film that comes from across the Atlantic. Effie is costing just $10 million to make, which is next to nothing in Hollywood. Sounds like a future festival darling to us — what do you think?

The Fanning Sisters: Dakota And Elle Are Fashion’s Favorite New Pair

How we adore these two! Dakota and Elle Fanning feature in Vogue’s Age Issue portfolio and the photograph is everything you’d expect from them. Muted, hip(ster) and beautifully styled. Elle’s already turned into a fashionista in our eyes. Hello, Rodarte? At her age? And all those incredible frocks (photos) event after event? It’s easy to forget that she’s only 13 years old. Dakota, on the other hand, has Marc Jacobs in her pocket. The fragrance, that is, because Elle has the campaign.

They’re neck-in-neck as far as we’re concerned, in terms of style. We can’t decide whose wardrobe we’d want to raid between the two of them. Both, perhaps? Which Fanning’s style quotient do you prefer?

Dakota Fanning Channels Lolita For Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola!

Oh, no, girl! Dakota Fanning stars in the Oh, Lola! campaign for Marc Jacobs. It’s the designer’s new fragrance for summer and is being marketed as “lively, playful, irresistible, stylish and cheerful”. That’s all just dandy, but what we’re a bit concerned about is the advertisement itself.

The shot, taken by Juergen Teller, depicts a wide-eyed, artfully disheveled actress as Lolita, with the rose tipped bottle placed between her legs. Dakota just graduated high school! She’s just 17 years old. Much as we love her, isn’t this way too suggestive? We get the “Lolita” character was meant to be that way, but that’s the reason why it’s caused so much debate till now. Come on, seriously? Rose cap for a bottle? Between the legs? Babydoll dress? It’s a bit too sexual for us, mainly because they’ve got such a young model posing in it. Then again, Marc Jacobs has never been cookie cutter and has always pushed boundaries with his campaigns. We’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this is a bit too controversial an ad for Dakota to be in.

Dakota Fanning: High School Graduate!

Congratulations to Dakota Fanning for graduating high school! Isn’t that incredible? It’s so easy to forget she’s really that young because of all the amazing work she’s done. Can you imagine Twilight‘s Jane graduating high school? North Hollywood’s Campbell Hall Episcopal High School, to be precise? Exactly. She looked so adorable wearing her blue cap and gown at the ceremony day before yesterday at Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A, with the rest of her family, including sister Elle Fanning, cheered on. Let’s not forget that Dakota was crowned Homecoming Queen too, which goes to show that everyone thinks she’s pretty awesome as well (we’d have voted for her). Love her! Can’t wait for the Dakota Fanning: College Edition.

Elle Fanning, The Biker Ballerina!

We here at the FABLife have made no secret of our love for Dakota Fanning. She is so adorable, well-dressed and, basically, the anti-thesis of Lindsay Lohan and company. Therefore, when her little sister, Elle Fanning, came along, equally well dressed, well adjusted and well behaved, our admiration extended to include both siblings. This picture of Elle leaving a a ballet class in Studio City, California pretty much seals the deal. Check out our gallery to see the whole outfit, because Elle’s wearing biker boots with her tunic and totally pulling it off! She may be getting into her car, but doesn’t she look she’s practicing on a barre? That sort of elegance at only age 13 should be made illegal!

Oprah, Celebrities Make Crazy Faces At Her (Almost) Final Show

Oprah Winfrey taped her some of her last shows this week (spoiler alert: there were celebrities!) and the one requirement for appearing onstage was that each star had to do their best “Oprah having an orgasmic meltdown” impression. The roster was a who’s who of ultimate Oprah BFFs, including Maya Angelou, Tom Hanks, Will and Jada Smith, Tom Cruise and his wife-bot Katie Holmes, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell, Halle Berry, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jordan, Maria Shriver, Patti LaBelle, Josh Groban and, randomly, Dakota Fanning.

Our favorite pics from what will surely be the world’s saddest week of TV programming, below.
