30 Oscar Winners Who Have Also Been Nominated For Razzies

Do your movies keep filling up the direct-to-DVD dollar bin? Do they often complete the phrase “the worst film since…”? Do they make less money than we did that time we went to a Coinstar? Well, don’t let that get you down, because you could still be in the running for Oscar glory! Every year, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation names the most terrible films and performances of the year. Sure, it’s gotta hurt to be named the absolute worst of Hollywood, but just know that you’re in surprisingly good company. Check out the gallery below to see some Oscar winners who have also been up for a Razzie!

Where Would Blake Lively Rank Among Steven Soderbergh’s Leading Ladies?

Steven Soderbergh’s having kind of a crap week, what with disappointing numbers for his latest action flick, Haywire, and the news that Annapurna Pictures backed out of one of his next projects, Side Effects. But we feel more sorry for Blake Lively, as some industry sources are speculating that backers aren’t so sure she can handle the role of a young woman caught in a love triangle with her doctor (Jude Law) and her paroled husband (Channing Tatum). It sounds like a heavy step up from Gossip Girl and Green Lantern, but it wouldn’t be the first time Soderbergh has managed to make a movie star into a serious actress. (One of those actresses, Catherine Zeta-Jones, has signed on for another role in Side Effects, giving ol’ Steven a vote of confidence.) Then again, he’s also had a few misses in that category too. Let’s take a look at what the critics have said about five of his leading ladies’ performances:

1. Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight: “At the center of the film is the repartee between Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney, and these two have the kind of unforced fun in their scenes together that reminds you of Bogart and Bacall. There’s a seduction scene in which the dialogue is intercut with the very gradual progress of the physical action, and it’s the dialogue that we want to linger on.” — Roger Ebert

“Lopez, for all her Latina-siren voluptuousness, has always projected a contained coolness, and this is the first movie in which it fully works for her. As Sisco is lured into a romance with Foley, you can see her resolve melt in spite of itself.” — Entertainment Weekly

Michael Douglas Opens Up About Wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Bipolar Illness

Michael Douglas must be having the worst year ever. Not just the worst year of his own life; the worst year that anyone on the planet could possibly have and still leave the house. In Michael Douglas’ Oprah interview today, the Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps star explained how his nightmare of a 2010 might have influenced wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’ bipolar disorder announcement. “My oldest son is in federal prison, my ex-wife is suing me, and I got cancer. It’s kind of hard for the wife to say, ‘I’m depressed,” Douglas says. “It probably played a big part of it.” Yeah, that stack of problems would make anything harder to say. Makes those soaking wet towels left on the bathroom floor look like a Sunday picnic in the park.

Luckily as of now Douglas’ cancer is in remission, Catherine Zeta-Jones returned to work and Cameron Douglas was sentenced to jail time…okay, no good news on that front, but all things considered, the second half of 2011 is shaping up to be better already. “This particular type of cancer has a good record of not coming back. But it can. So for the first year I’ve got to go every month and get checked in every three months,” Douglas explained, before confirming he is cancer-free as of his month. We are really going to have to stop complaining about our lives. Just as soon as we pick up all these towels. Seriously, it seems like there are 30 of them in here.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Returns To Work, Opens Up About Bipolar Illness

Catherine Zeta-Jones always struck us as a woman not to be messed with (in the most flattering way possible!), and it looks like that same strength is helping her speak out about her mental illness. In an interview with People, Catherine Zeta-Jones discusses her bipolar disorder, offering support for those experiencing the same struggle. “This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them,” Zeta-Jones explained. “If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”

Though it’s only been a week since Zeta-Jones checked into a mental health facility, she has since returned to Louisiana to film her new rom-com Playing The Field with Gerard Butler and Uma Thurman. News also broke earlier today that director Adam Shankman just cast Zeta-Jones in Rock Of Ages with Tom Cruise and Russell Brand. Zeta-Jones’ character is slated to sing Pat Benatar‘s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” and Twisted Sister‘s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Said Shankman, “She’s the villain who is out to stop rock ‘n’ roll from poisoning Los Angeles. If Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child, it would be this woman.” Given how face-meltingly good Catherine was in the musical Chicago, we can’t wait to see it, and for the actress to make a full recovery.

Demi Lovato Tweets Support For Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones is currently receiving treatment at a mental health facility for Bipolar II Disorder. Apparently after the stress of the last year, especially with her husband, Michael Douglas, battling cancer, Catherine needed some help before going on to film two movies in the next few days. The support’s pouring in for her, especially from young Hollywood. Soon to take on her first post-rehab interview, Demi Lovato is in Catherine’s corner.

Considering both actresses willingly checked into centers, Demi’s probably feeling the older actress’ pain right about now. Lovato tweeted, “I don’t know Catherine Zeta-Jones personally but what she has decided to do it SO brave.. And SO difficult but worth it… I’m proud of her.” We think it’s really brave of both of them! Taking these decisions are never easy especially in the constant glare of the media (yes, we said it). We also think it’s pretty adorable of Demi to send such a sincere message out too.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Checks Into Mental Health Facility

A representative for Catherine Zeta-Jones has confirmed that the Oscar and Tony-winning actress has checked into a mental health facility for treatment. “After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films.” A source told People, “Catherine has had deal with Michael’s illness and that’s been hard. She went in for a few days because she’s about to start working, and wanted to make sure she’s in top form, which she is.”

The Chicago actress has spoken about her frustration over husband Michael Douglas’ battle with cancer, saying “It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier.” After only making three movies since 2005′s The Legend Of Zorro, Zeta-Jones is scheduled to star in Playing The Field with Gerard Butler and Lay The Favorite with Bruce Willis next year.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Allegedly Punched By Photographer, Yells For Police

Catherine Zeta-Jones‘ trip to London to accept a CBE from Prince Charles Thursday had an unpleasant interruption last night after returning to her hotel from dinner with Michael Douglas. Paparazzi were waiting for the couple, with at least one blocking Jones’ way in. A scuffle followed, with a photographer dashing out as the Oscar-winning actress screamed she had been punched and demanding police attention. Confusion followed, with Douglas stomping back out, grabbing the suspect and screaming “a–hole!” at him. When asked about the melee, Jones’ rep told Entertainment Tonight. “You saw it for yourself. Otherwise, the trip and the ceremony were fabulous and such a joy for everyone.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones Wears Sexy Suit And Tie To Dinner With Michael Douglas

Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michael Douglas

With Michael Douglas saying he’s “beat” cancer, the actor and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones certainly have reason to celebrate—in style. “She had a good cry when she heard [the tumor was gone],” Douglas told People. “I can’t tell you I was jumping up and clicking my heels. For me, it will probably be two or three months before it will really sink in and feel good.” Sooner if Catherine can help it—check out the sexily disheveled formal wear she wore to dinner with Douglas in Manhattan last night. Dude’s definitely got something to live for.

Wall Street 2: This Premiere Never Sleeps

wallstreet2main

We haven’t seen Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, but we’re fans of the first film and have a lot of theories about how this new film is going to go down. First of all, if Shia LaBeouf doesn’t go on some mission to find his predecessor, Charlie Sheen (and inevitably finds him living in a cabin in the woods seeking redemption for his formerly greedy ways), that will have been a wasted opportunity. And if there’s not some kind of nod to Michael Douglas‘ prototype of those newfangled cellular telephones that were as big as a tissue box, we’ll be disappointed. Other than that, bring it on, sequel!

The premiere of the film took place in New York last night, and all the stars were out in full force – it was a mix of the old guard and the new. LaBeouf and girlfriend/co-star Carey Mulligan looked amazing, as did Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And director Oliver Stone took time out from growing and combing his mustache to attend so that was nice. Of course, it wouldn’t be a party unless Courtney Love showed up and made everyone nervous so there was that, too. Check out all the shots from the red carpet below.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Angry About Michael Douglas’ Cancer Ordeal

tony awards 9 140610

Michael Douglas getting cancer came as a nasty surprise for everyone. Most of all to his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has a bone to pick with his doctors. She revealed, “It makes me furious they didn’t detect it earlier. He sought every option and nothing was found.”

Apparently, Douglas had been steadily complaining about pain in his ear and throat. Catherine is incredibly surprised none of the doctors found anything then, because it was only three weeks later that a walnut-sized tumor was found under his tongue. And they were ready for the bad news, it seems. “It wasn’t a huge shock,” she added. “I knew something was up. He knew something was up.”

Douglas’ cancer is at stage four and has spread to his neck and parts of his head but he still has an incredibly positive attitude, telling David Letterman, “I’m treating this as a curable disease. It’s a fight. I’ll beat this.”

Zeta-Jones has understandably taken the news hard, telling People, “The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired.” Our prayers are with both of them, and as Zeta-Jones also added, “if there’s anything Michael has, it’s strength.” Amen to that.
