Michael Fassbender And Carey Mulligan Wow Us At The London Critics’ Circle Awards

Carey Mulligan was a repeat offender at the 2012 London Critics’ Circle Awards held at the BFI Southbank yesterday. Not that we have a huge problem with it because that Roland Mouret Spring 2012 dress is boss. She paired the red jersey dress with white leather flower appliqués — called “Edith” — with a pair of blue YSL Palais pumps. Carey wore the same dress with black pumps only last week at a Fox Studios party at the Chateau Marmont in L.A. Her co-star in Shame, Michael Fassbender, looks ridiculously hot (as usual) in a three-piece suit. Michael is pitted against Ewan McGregorin our weekly Hotness poll — have you voted yet? They share screen space in Haywire, and we don’t know how we’re going to concentrate on the movie with those two men in it.

Shame was nominated for Best British Film of the Year while Carey and Michael picked up nomination each for Best British Actor of the Year and Best British Actress of the Year. They may not have won but they win through red carpet domination. Click on our gallery to watch them in action.

Michelle Williams Vs. Carey Mulligan: Which Pixie Is This Week’s Hotness?

As a short-hair girl myself, I always feel a special kinship with other ladies I meet who dare to shear their flowing locks. So I wonder, too, if this year’s awards season darlings Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan feel like they’re sisters of a sort, due to their adorable blond ‘dos. Or maybe, as Hollywood is wont to do, they’ve been forced into a rivalry by half-blind casting directors who see them as interchangeable. I hope not, because the Shame and the My Week With Marilyn stars are both awesome in unique ways. But, contrarily, we decided to promote a different kind of rivalry, by making you vote for them in this week’s Hotness poll.

The 30 Best Dressed Stars Of 2011: Vote For Your Favorite Now!

How did we come up with this list of 30 best dressed stars for 2011? Many hours of poring through pictures of premieres, award shows, concerts, events … you name it, we saw it. We also think it’s a pretty diverse list covering our favorites and yours. Will you vote for bombshells like Jennifer Lopez or Sofia Vergara, whose Modern Family co-star, Sarah Hyland, has also made it onto the polls. Or for gamine pixies like Zooey Deschanel, Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan? If you prefer the ingenues, then Chloe Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld and Jennifer Lawrence are on the list as well. Carey Mulligan Sexifies Herself For W Magazine Cover

Carey Mulligan! When did you decide to become so smoking hot? Posing for the upcoming issue of W Magazine, the Shame actress dressed up her goodies in white lingerie for an unusually slinky cover photo. We always knew the Great Gatsby star was adorable in a sweet apple-pie-school-teacher way (you know, one of those school teachers made out of pies?). We had no idea she was so…so…so seductive! Now that we think about it, Carey is almost always mouse-ified for her roles; her wardrobe in Drive looked like it came straight out of our grandma’s closet. The less cool grandma. We have to assume this new come-hither look is the result of working with Michael Fassbender. One day on the set and our shirts would be exploding off too.

Carey Mulligan Handled Her “Exciting” Full-Frontal Nude Scene Like A Boss

Carey Mulligan’s nude scene in Shame is the kind of thing that would have doing Pilates in our sleep, but luckily for cinema’s sake the Great Gatsby actress had more commitment to the role than we would. “I didn’t have to worry about what I ate, or how much I drank, and I didn’t have to work out,” Mulligan says of her role in the upcoming film, which has pulled in a NC-17 rating. “She was an alcoholic mess. She didn’t have any money to dye her hair. I mean I didn’t become an alcoholic, but I didn’t have to watch myself. It was so much more exciting to play that character that didn’t worry about her appearance in any way. I knew that when I stood up in that bath naked it wasn’t about whether I looked good naked or not. It was about who she was.”

Just the thought of being on-set sans pants with Michael Fassbender makes us want to run shrieking to the gym, but we’d say surrendering to the role is just one option when it comes to nude scenes. Some other possibilities include…

Sucking it in: “I always tried to think about positions where I could tense the muscles, and suck in my belly,” said Rob Pattinson, about his Breaking Dawn sex scene.

Using a stand-in: “These young ladies came in and they were in a casting room with the director and the casting director and my makeup artists. These lovely women had to show us their derriere and we chose the one that resembled my body the most without looking like it’s fake,” Mila Kunis explained about her Friends With Benefits nudity.

Cry unceasingly: “I was a wreck from start to finish. I think I cried every single day. I had to lean so much more heavily on everyone around me than I’m used to. I’m used to pulling my own weight. But I totally fell apart,” Anne Hathaway admitted about getting naked for her Love and Other Drugs sex scene.

Own it, snaggle fangs and all: “I didn’t work out beforehand, it was all very natural. I don’t have any real body issues. I never really overeat, I shed weight in the summer, put it on in the winter,” Kristen Dunst said about her Melancholia nude scene, even admitting, “I love my snaggle fangs.”

Make a tiny elephant out of your junk: “The first thing we see is Nina’s reaction, so what if I was completely naked and we had elephant ears and double-stick tape, and I put them on each of my thighs, and ultimately, she would be staring at a very small, young elephant. The reaction that we got was f—ing amazing,” Ian Somerhalder, suprising Nina Dobrev on the set of The Vampire Diaries.

Write a letter to your mom concerning your scene partner’s genitalia: Okay, not really. “You can literally be tangled in sheets, and you turn to the other actor and say ‘What the f–k are we doing?’ ‘Dear Mum, at work today I had so-and-so’s left nut sack pressed against my cheek.’ It’s sort of unethical if you think about it in those terms,” said Kate Winslet, regarding the many, many sex scenes she has done.

Hollywood Film Awards Gala Gives Stars A Good Excuse To Look Hot

Last night, we covered the Hollywood Film Awards gala wearing an Old Navy dress and some chunky boots from three seasons ago. Luckily the A-listers with whom we chatted on the red carpet have impeccable taste — and skilled stylists — and posed in outfits worthy of the #1 spot on every best-dressed list on the Web. Michelle Williams (recipient of the Hollywood Actress Award), Emma Stone (honored with the cast of The Help), Carey Mulligan (Hollywood Supporting Actress Award), Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Elle Fanning were all working it last night, making us drool with envy over their dresses. And guys like Tom Felton, George Clooney and the always adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt, suited up and smiled for the cameras too. The event, held at the iconic Beverly Hilton, is the unofficial kick-off to awards season, and the stars brought their A-game last night. It’s gonna be a long four months of parties, press, drama and dresses galore. We.Cannot.Effing.Wait.

Whoa! Is Carey Mulligan Engaged To Marcus Mumford?

British pixie dream girl Carey Mulligan has had her share of famous loves over the past year, including Shia ‘The Beef” LaBeouf and Tom “Crazy Beard” Sturridge. But now the Daily Mail is reporting that she is engaged to Mumford and Sons songster Marcus Mumford…after only dating for five months! Girl, back it up a step. The two met at a Mumford gig in Nashville this February, and she accompanied them on a portion of their tour across America in a vintage train. Ahh, we can’t take the throwbacky preciousness!

According to the article, the question was popped in an expensive English seaside hotel, and Carey spent the trip showing guests her massive engagement rock. “Carey looked like the cat who had got the cream,” says one guest. “She was wearing a beautiful ring and didn’t seem to mind who saw it. They were stuck to each other like glue. She was doing most of the talking and he was hanging on her every word.” If all this is true, Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard have serious competition for their “Ultimate Twee-Couple” crown.

Drive Trailer Reminds Us That Ryan Gosling Is Also A Badass

As much as we squee over the adorable aspects of Ryan Gosling, like bringing his dog George to visit Jimmy Fallon or being our fantasy husband in Blue Valentine (well, right up until the end scene), we also need to be reminded sometimes that he is also a cut-from-marble example of hard-core badassry.

Enter the Drive trailer, which premiered at Comic-Con and costars both Carey Mulligan and Christina Hendricks, both toned down for the occasion. There are so many moments in this movie that serve to hammer home Gosling’s tough-guy persona: the terrifying bald mask! The flipping police cars! The nail about to be literally hammered through that guy’s skull! But then they throw us a bone with a Mulligan/Gosling slow-motion kiss in the elevator. This film truly has something for everyone. Especially creepy mask enthusiasts.

Carey Mulligan Bares Midriff At Comic Con

We love the understated style of Carey Mulligan, and what treat it was to see her back in action at Comic Con yesterday. The actress mixed sensible with sexy with this multi-colored dress, which showed off her stomach while still keeping her legs covered. The style teases the eye with a bit of skin yet still maintains the class we’ve come to expect from the Oscar nominee. We glad to see that she’s kept her signature cropped hair-do, too. We’re loving the length and the darker highlights!

Carey was in San Diego to promote her new movie Drive, which co-stars uber-hunk Ryan Gosling. Do you think she met up with fellow Brit Packer RPattz and his honorary Brit Pack girlfriend for drinks at the end of the day? We can only dream!

Carey Mulligan Steps Out With Gatsby Director, New Brown Hair

Carey Mulligan has ditched her blond pixie cut for a new brown ‘do. The Oscar-nominated actress was out in NYC last night with Baz Luhrmann, her director on the upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Carey co-stars alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher in the movie, which is apparently being release in 3-D. (Yes, Gatsby in 3-D. F. Scott Fitzgerald is rolling over in his booze-soaked grave.) Not only are we feelin’ Carey’s brown brogues and floral dress, but we’re also into Baz’s ensemble. A silver fox in cuffed jeans? Don’t mind if we do!
