There’s a certain kind of celebrity that flies from its native habitat of New York, Los Angeles or London to breed, bath in warm ocean waters or forage for food and drink along remote tropical beaches. A newly reunited Jude Law and Sienna Miller fall into this category. The on-off-on couple spent the holidays in the Caribbean, as did Rihanna and Marc Jacobs (not together, of course). On the Pacific side, there have been two very rare spottings in Hawaii: Pierce Brosnan with his wife and a shirtless Jeremy Piven.

A different breed has been spotted playing in colder climates this holiday season, including Katy Perry and Russell Brand, now engaged after a pre-Christmas London rendezvous of shopping, sledding and most likely sessions of baby-making practice. Antonio Banderas dispelled rumors that he gave wife Melanie Griffith an ultimatum to sober up or else he would divorce her. Banderas gave an interview to Ellen DeGeneres which airs on her show today, and discusses that he loves his wife and would never turn his back on her during a rough patch like the one she’s currently going through.

Though Griffith has has a history of substance abuse problems, Banderas explains that the latest stint in rehab is a result of her use of painkillers to get through a knee injury she received after a skiing accident. Banderas told DeGeneres that contrary to the rumors, rehab was Griffith’s idea. “In March, she came to me and said, ‘I’m feeling a little bit weak in my determination for this…so I just thought to go to rehabilitation by myself.’ So the whole entire family is supporting her, and I am supporting her, and at this particular time more than ever. I’m very proud of her.”

Melanie Griffith has checked into a rehab center again, to deal with undisclosed issues. The Hollywood star, who has suffered for years with addiction problems to alcohol and then prescription drugs, is reportedly staying at the Cirque Lodge in Utah.

“She is there to reinforce her commitment to stay healthy. This is part of a routine plan that was designed between her and her doctors years ago,” says her rep Robin Baum. However, other conflicting reports claim this is in a bid to save her marriage to Spanish star Antonio Banderas.
