Amy Poehler Was The Mastermind Of Tonight’s Emmy Awards Highlight

The early highlight of tonight’s 63rd Annual Emmy Awards came when Rob Lowe and Sofia Vergara began announcing the nominees for the Best Actress in a Comedic Series nominees. After some mildly painful banter between these two ridiculously good-looking human beings, the two introduced the first of the category’s five nominees, Amy Poehler. Instead of sitting in her chair and nodding at the camera politely, Poehler got up from her seat and boldly strode on stage. For a moment there, it looked like a totally spontaneous incident, like Poehler was perhaps doing a bizarre nod to the opening moments of Zoolander, when Derek Zoolander mistakenly accepts the Male Model of the Year Award. Had Amy Poehler lost her marbles?

As it turns out, no. What at first glance seemed like something shockingly spontaneous turned out to be planned from the get-go, as the other nominees—Edie Falco, Tina Fey, Laura Linney, Melissa McCarthy (who ended up taking home the Emmy) and Martha Plimpton—took to the stage in a show of female solidarity that we can only assume was a response to the whole “Are women funny?” controversy that’s been raging on the internet over the last year or so. Late Night With Jimmy Fallon executive producer Mike Shoemaker confirmed that the moment was pre-planned on his Twitter feed, writing “My brilliant friend Amy Poehler pulled that whole thing together. What a great moment.”

But was it actually a great moment? Well, for what it’s worth, we thought it was a pretty outstanding moment. It was bold, it made a statement, it shook up an otherwise blah show, Amy Poehler is a freaking LEGEND, and really, so what if it was an act that of “defiance” that Emmy producers actually knew about in advance? However, we can also see the flip side of the coin, too: What made these five ladies think that THEIR category was any more special or important than the rest of the night’s nominees, and therefore particularly deserving of a standing ovation? We’ll leave it up to you guys to decide if in our poll below.

10 Best Dressed Celebrities At The VH1 Do Something Awards

Stars brought their A-game to VH1 Do Something Awards! Insert all applause, wolf whistles and back patting here, guys! The show went down yesterday at the Hollywood Palladium in California and we’re pleased to report that celebrities really spiffed themselves up for the event. Including the guys because this best-dressed list involves Justin Bieber, David Beckham and Adam Lambert. David looked so sharp in his suit and also, adorably, brought his son Brooklyn with him.

The ladies more than kept up. Jojo and Amy Poehler brought bright punches of color with them wearing fuchsia and sunshine yellow respectively. We also love the vintage vibe Brittany Snow and Rose McGowan were channeling. Rose had on a strapless, sexy, Dolce & Gabbana black and white star-print dress with red heels and Brittany wore a circle-cut silver animal print dress by Camilla and Marc with mustard ankle-strap pumps.

Kim Kardashian highlighted her kurves in her version of “minimal.” It was sleek, white, body hugging gown — she’s been wearing a lot of white lately, probably as a lead-up to the wedding. But we have to admit she looks pretty fab. Rounding off our top 10 are Demi Lovato and Kristen Bell. Demi looked happy, healthy and leggy in an embellished, flirty white frock. Kristen looked sleek in a one-shouldered Etro dress. Ladies and gentlemen, we applaud you. Click through our gallery below and tell us who you think was best dressed?

Don’t forget to tune-in to the 2011 Do Something! Awards, airing on VH1 this Thursday, August 18, at 9 p.m. ET!

Blake Lively’s New Red Hair And Other Celebrities Turn Up At Time’s 100 Gala

Partay time at Lincoln Center in New York yesterday! Stars poured in for the Time’s 100 Gala celebrating Time’s 100 Most Influential People for 2011. We’re proud to say that three of our Top 5 WTF people on the list turned up! Leading that parade was a gorgeous Blake Lively who debuted a new strawberry blonde ‘do. We love it, and we loved her in that sexy Zuhair Murad gown. We reckon she’s on the list for most influential boobs and legs, right? Rain, the South Korean pop star, just looked happy to be there. And Mark Wahlberg, as chiseled as ever, showed up with his sexyface on.

We also love Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari far too much, so we’re just going to pass on talking about their outfits. But we will talk about freshly brewed brunette Anna Kendrick who wore a black cocktail frock with a dangerously low plunging neckline! She better have put in a whole roll of double-sided tape for that one! Our Ultimate FAB Icon, Chris Colfer, had to be there too! Oprah‘s best buddy, Gayle King, showed up as well looking pretty fine in a cerulean blue gown, and the musician crowd was well-repped by Bruno Mars and ?uestlove. There’s more, folks, so check out our gallery below.

Lisa Vanderpump’s Dog Giggy Face-Plants At GLAAD Media Awards

While Lisa Vanderpump certainly gave her dog a lovely suit to wear at GLAAD Media Awards this weekend, Giggy wasn’t strong enough to face the cameras on his own—falling flat on said face soon after the Real Housewives star set him on the carpet…and he couldn’t get up! Thankfully, Lisa scooped up her living accoutrement and managed to hoist him on stage to pose with Tori Spelling and her pooch.

Also attending the soiree were stars like Amy Poehler, Chaz Bono, Meat Loaf, Marlee Matlin, Dolly Parton, Kirsten Dunst and ultimate FAB icon Chris Colfer, picking up yet another trophy for being awesome. See photos of the celebs (and poor Giggy!) in the gallery below.

Freaks And Geeks and Undeclared Casts Reunite In LA

We know school is important to you, James Franco, but we think you’re going to regret not attending your high school reunion—at least the reunion of the Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared casts that went down this weekend at the Paley Center. After all, if Jason Segel and Linda Cardellini could both make it, despite everyone knowing Forgetting Sarah Marshall was inspired by their break-up, then anyone could could risk an awkward moment or two. Then again, maybe they wouldn’t have been so open about Franco’s “method” acting, including a crew-scaring moment where he threw on-screen lover Busy Phillips on the ground (in character). “He is the only one among all of you to be nominated for an Academy Award,” noted show creator Judd Apatow.

Twilight Craze Hits Parks & Recreation

Parks and Recreation boarded the Twilight train last night as Kelly, a passionate citizen played by Will Forte, compared Pawnee to Forks and Tom (Aziz Ansari) pronounced himself Team Edward.

In the hilarious episode, Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) is compiling a Pawnee time capsule, in which Forte insists that the Twilight books be included. When a heartbroken Tom is brought to the Twi-side (because author Stephanie Meyers was “peering into his soul”), he, Donna and Kelly form a book club and have debates only Twilight fans could truly appreciate. In a moment that struck a chord with RPattz fans everywhere, Donna (Retta) lusts for a minute with Robert Pattinson and even refers to Kristen Stewart as “Skinny Legs McGee.” It was truly an episode custom written for Twi-Hards.

Leslie refused to give into vampire mania, but speaking from personal experience, we’re confident all the chatter about Bella’s love triangle and the Volturi will force the self-proclaimed Harry Potter girl to give into the addictive series. Watch one of our favorite scenes after the jump, where Tom drops the F-bomb upon realizing there’s not only a sequel, but four books in the series.

Amy Poehler Looks Like A “Sociopath” In Old Modeling Photos

Amy Poehler’s modeling days might be behind her, but looks like certain terrible pictures will haunt her forever. Last week stock photos of Amy Poehler dressed as a candystriper popped up in a Google search for “volunteer,” pictures that had Poehler groaning on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. “When you look up other actresses old modeling pictures on the internet they look really young and sexy and I look like a sociopath,” Amy joked about her younger, less glamorous self. We think Poehler looks less like a serial killer and more like an actual nurse, but take that as you will.

The Parks & Recreation star described how as 20-somethings in Chicago, she and her friends would either give blood or pose for low-budget modeling gigs for cash. “If you ever had any doubt about my late bloomer-hood, take a look at that,” Amy cracked. Makes giving blood look pretty glamorous, right? Plus you get juice and cookies right after, rather than humiliation 20 years later.

Amy Adams, The King’s Speech Own The Producers’ Guild Awards

It’s a shame we posted Amy Adams‘ Top 20 Hottest Dresses before this year’s Producers’ Guild Awards—her low-cut look last night would have had a good shot at #1. Despite the presence of cast charmers like Justin Timberlake, The Social Network‘s awards season streak hit a speed bump at the ceremony, with The King’s Speech stealing off with the Daryl F. Zanuck award for Best Feature. Other big winners were Toy Story 3, Mad Men, Modern Family and The Colbert Report.

On the less triumphant front was host Judd Apatow, whining that Ricky Gervais was a mean ol’ meanie at The Golden Globes. “Tim Allen did 200 episodes of Home Improvement. He was in three of the highest grossing movies of all time. And his latest just crossed the one billion mark. Whereas The Invention Of Lying made $18 million dollars worldwide…Leave Tim Allen alone.” Is the guy who brought us Seth Rogen and Freaks & Geeks really telling us we shouldn’t mock the rich and successful because they’re rich and successful? It’s nice to be nice, but when it comes to celebrity kiss-ass competitions, we prefer whichever host is the funniest.

The Hunger Games: We Pick Our Dream Cast

hunger-games-cast1

The Hunger Games is poised to be the world’s next giant movie franchise, and we are counting the seconds (and days, weeks, month and years) until it’s in theaters – or at least in production. If you haven’t read the trilogy of young adult books, you’re doing yourself a maj, MAJ disservice. And don’t give us that “I don’t read books like Twilight, pass me the Jonathan Franzen” BS; hear us out.

The Hunger Games is nothing like Twilight (this is coming from a Twi-hard, mind you), it’s a sci-fi nail-biter that focuses on a post-apocalyptic America (Panem) that keeps its citizens in check with a Battle Royale-style competition made up of two teens from each of the country’s districts. It’s got tons of action with enough romance to make us never think about Edward Cullen again (okay, that’s an obvious lie, but you get what we’re saying).

Gary Ross has just signed on to direct the movie, which means casting should begin soon. Obviously theFABlife wants in on the the fun, and we’ve spent weeks agonizing over our dream cast. We’ve finally nailed down the peeps we envision bringing The Hunger Games to life and we’ve listed them below, complete with a gallery and deets behind our picks. We’re sure you’re going to disagree with at least some of them, so leave your own Hunger Games dream cast list in the comments. Maybe you’ll make us change our minds!

Mia Wasikowska’s Dress: Not All Right

SPL191981_002

When Mia Wasikowska starred as Alice in Tim Burton‘s Alice In Wonderland earlier this year, she had the ability to make herself smaller or larger depending on what potions she drank. Looks like the top of her dress drank the miniaturizing one. That proportion is just all wrong and folks, if we can turn into our dad for a sec, it’s a real mesh. (Fabric puns!)

Mia was on the red carpet for her latest feature, The Kids Are All Right, and while we can appreciate the fashion risk she took, much like Gwyneth Paltrow‘s goth lace Oscar dress from 2002, there are major boob issues we can’t get past. On the other hand, Mia’s co-stars Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore are flawless and Amy Poehler, pregnant with baby number two, looks adorable.
