Black Gowns Galore On The 2012 SAG Awards Red Carpet

Classic black never goes out of style. There may have been a fair amount of neutrals and grays and bold colors on the 2012 Sag Awards red carpet last night, but black actually outnumbered them all. None of the gowns veered towards goth territory, either, as all the styles went the romantic or slightly edgy route.

We saw drapes on the likes of Melissa McCarthy’s Badgley Mischka, Archie Panjabi’s one-shouldered Carolina Herrera and Angelina Jolie’s Jenny Packham halter-necked gown. The latter was a little too safe for our liking. Wearing the same designer was Ashlee Simpson, whose dress was similar to the number Vanessa Hudgens wore to the People’s Choice Awards. No contest here: Ashlee wore the better version.

Amber Heard killed it in a Zac Posen cut-out dress and guess who wore the same designer? Glenn Close! She rocked that gown and her compatriot Jessica Lange did the same in a slinky sequined David Meister number. Both the ladies are still so sexy in their 60s! Joining the sequin brigade was Jayma Mays‘ beautiful Reem Acra gown with a dramatic demi-train. We saw a lot of lace overlay as well, whether it was in Amber Riley’s Badgley Mischka, Stacy Keibler’s Marchesa or Emma Stone’s custom Alexander McQueen. We’d also like to hand out top marks to our favourite 30 Rock ladies for bringing on the fabulous. Tina Fey looked very sexy in her vintage Versace gown as did Jane Krakowski in Antonio Berardi. Everyone did really good here, and black was anything but boring. The only celebrity we wish had upped the stakes was Glee’s Heather Morris. Her half-sheer Masai Payan dress just didn’t work.

Who Was Best Dressed At The Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows Premiere?

OK, some of us have been slacking on our movie news homework and had no idea that Sherlock Holmes: A Game af Shadows was coming out so soon. Perhaps Twilight has been hogging the attention. But our favorite detective is back, and the movie premiered yesterday at the Village Theatre in L.A. Three ladies in particular really stepped it up on the very chic carpet. Rachel McAdams — who reprises her role in this second installment of Guy Ritchie’s franchise — leads the list. She wore this beautiful, long-sleeved, silver Marchesa dress with Christian Louboutin heels. Amber Heard, who’s had the best sartorial year ever, kept it simple and stylish with a white tailored shirt and black pants. Loose Marcel waves and red lips completed the look. Noomi Rapace , who also stars in the film, chose the same color palette as Rachel, only with a different silhouette. All three are so glam and have got premiere wear down to an art.

We’re leaning towards Noomi’s dress as our favorite, but your input could totally change our minds. Let us know what you’re thinking in the comments below. The gallery has full length pictures if you want to take a closer look, plus we’ve included a completely gratuitous photograph of Robert Downey Jr. hamming it up for the cameras.

Is Amber Heard Starting A New Long-Sleeved Gown Trend?

Amber Heard has had a lot of fashion moments all year, making her our pick for the most fashion-forward star around. Whatever she wears, we’re sold! Considering she’s such a style chameleon, we were surprised to see a certain silhouette pop up repeatedly on her red carpet roll. It started with a black long-sleeved Jean Paul Gaultier gown at the New York premiere of The Rum Diary at the Museum of Modern Art last month. Then she moved onto a nude long-sleeved Alessandra Rich Spring 2012 dress to the London premiere of the film (seen on the right) and then most recently, a navy blue long-sleeved Stella McCartney number (on the right) to the Paris premiere of The Rhum Express yesterday. That’s what they’re calling The Rum Diary in France, BTW. But do you see what we’re talking about here? They’re all long-sleeved and monochromatic. Do we smell a trend? Hit us with your opinions.

Rum Diary Star Amber Heard’s 20 Hottest Looks

OK, so The Rum Diary is hovering at 51 percent approval from the critics on RottenTomatoes.com, but we’re going to go out on a limb here and say the Johnny Depp-starring movie based on Hunter S. Thompson’s first novel looks like fun. And if there were a Tomatometer for Amber Heard‘s red carpet appearances, she’d get at least a 99 percent Fresh rating. Even after the sudden cancellation of The Playboy Club, she’s been looking cool and confident and super hot every time there’s a camera near. This is one blond bombshell who knows she doesn’t have to go for the splashiest of fashions to show off her assets.

Hollywood Film Awards Gala Gives Stars A Good Excuse To Look Hot

Last night, we covered the Hollywood Film Awards gala wearing an Old Navy dress and some chunky boots from three seasons ago. Luckily the A-listers with whom we chatted on the red carpet have impeccable taste — and skilled stylists — and posed in outfits worthy of the #1 spot on every best-dressed list on the Web. Michelle Williams (recipient of the Hollywood Actress Award), Emma Stone (honored with the cast of The Help), Carey Mulligan (Hollywood Supporting Actress Award), Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Elle Fanning were all working it last night, making us drool with envy over their dresses. And guys like Tom Felton, George Clooney and the always adorable Joseph Gordon-Levitt, suited up and smiled for the cameras too. The event, held at the iconic Beverly Hilton, is the unofficial kick-off to awards season, and the stars brought their A-game last night. It’s gonna be a long four months of parties, press, drama and dresses galore. We.Cannot.Effing.Wait.

We’ve got out favorite looks — and behind the scenes moments — in the gallery below.

Charlie’s Angels Joins Fall TV’s Fallen

By Natalie Adeeyo
Today we learned that the latest incarnation of Charlie’s Angels received its walking papers after only four episodes. Was anyone surprised? Not really. Every season, the major networks throw so many new shows at the wall, and then step back to see which will stick. Some go on to make their networks proud, while the bad seeds get kicked out and disowned — especially if they’re slick and expensive to make. This fall season had its share of troublemakers, like the controversial Playboy Club, as well as plain, old underachievers, like the aforementioned Angels. So far, here’s a list of the dearly, and not so dearly, departed.

Amber Heard Turns Heads In Red At Rum Diary Premiere

Playboy Club, Schmayboy Club. Amber Heard’s TV show got the ax last week, but she didn’t look the least bit down and out at the Rum Diary premiere at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art last night. And even with a slit up to THERE in her stunning red Elie Saab gown, she must have felt pretty covered up after all those Bunny outfits. With that dress and her hair in the most elegant bun (I want to touch it!), she’s doing her best to be triumphant screen siren and make us forget that other little project. And it’s kinda working, don’t you think?

USA Today noted that she stumbled slightly on her flowing train in those nude-colored Louboutins, and she admitted that the whole shebang was “absolutely not” easy to walk in, “But it feels great.” Take a closer look in the gallery!

Johnny Depp Reminds Us Why We Love Him In The Rum Diary

Johnny Depp and The Rum Diary seem to be the perfect mix. But before we say anything else, we just have to ask you to look for a little Jack Sparrow in him while watching the trailer! It’s there, right? Must be all the rum. The film’s based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson, FYI. It follows Johnny’s character, a journalist called Paul Kemp, who is so done with America and the Eisenhower administration that he heads to Puerto Rico to write for The San Juan Star. And what proceeds is lurching through a lot of drinking thrown in with some self-destructive comrades, and some alcoholic, violent lust for Amber Heard‘s character, Chenault. Watch the trailer — you’re not going to want to miss this one.

Amber Heard And Kellan Lutz Show Off Their Good Looks On Syrup Set

Amber Heard and Kellan Lutz are in New York City this week, filming their movie Syrup. Apparently it’s about young executives competing in the soda industry. To us, it just looks like a movie about beautiful people being beautiful. We love Kellan in a suit, and Amber looks stunning in red. Seriously, why is the world not more obsessed with this woman? She’s drop dead gorg and super cool to boot. Amber came out last year and is an outspoken supporter of GLAAD. Also, her girlfriend is hot (hotter than Kellan’s!). Add her to our favorites list, stat.
