Adam Lambert: “Ignorant People” Make Being Gay Hard

A video of Adam Lambert performing “Outlaws of Love” — a song we’re thrilled to hear on his upcoming album, Trespassing — at a concert in Montreal found its way onto Youtube this past summer. In the clip, the singer talks about “acceptance” being a big inspiration behind his song-writing, specifically for “Outlaws of Love.” We asked Adam about it during our recent sit-down.

“I think one of the things about doing this as a career is that I’m able to give people strength and encouragement that feel like outsiders, especially being openly gay,” he told us. “But one of the things I haven’t gotten to do is sing about how it sucks sometimes, how it hurts, and the pain and the struggle that the LGBT community goes through on so many different levels. And that’s what this song is about.

Birthday Boy Adam Lambert Talks Hunger Games Appeal, Possible Acting Career

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Adam Lambert earlier this week in Los Angeles, where we chatted about the usual: his new album, Trespassing, it’s awesome first single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” and our mutual obsession with The Hunger Games. Yes, in addition to being handsome and talented, Adam is also a total YA nerd. Stars are just like us, guys!

Adam had no idea that he was a fan favorite to plan Cinna back before the movie was cast. “I definitely identified with the character when I read the books,” he told us. “I think Lenny Kravitz is gonna be rad.”

When we pressed him on his allegiance to Team Gale or Team Peeta, Adam admitted, “I didn’t know there were teams!” He added, “I think the thing that was really clever about the books is that, much like Twilight, it really divides the two. They’re both really good guys, for different reasons.”

[Let's pause for a brief swoon break over Adam referencing Twilight.]

We also asked Adam if he’d ever given thought to a movie career (cough, the new Les Miserables movie, cough). “Yes, if someone wanted me to do it,” he said. “I grew up doing a lot of musical theater…and I think much of my last album was me playing a character. But I like music so much, and I think singing is kind of my gift, I think. But sure, why not!?”

Maybe a role that involves a little bit of both?

Adam Lambert Discusses His Style Shift From “Lisa Frank Unicorn” To “Classic With An Edge”

What can I say about Adam Lambert that you don’t already know? He is absolutely delightful, fun to talk to, and is wonderfully humble despite being mega-talented. I arrived at our interview in Beverly Hills this week to find Adam decked out in an all-black ensemble, the only color popping from his bright blue shoes. The singer, whose new album Trespassing drops mid-March, is well known for his eccentric fashion taste, but I couldn’t help but notice that his outfit was a bit on the subdued side. Naturally, I had to ask about his current sartorial mood.

“I think what you’re drawn to fashion-wise has to do with where you are emotionally and what you’re exploring in your life,” said Adam. “I think there was a point where, two years ago, in the middle of my first album, where it was all so ridiculous. And I was doing that on purpose. I was having so much fun being completely over the top. And that felt good, and that was what I wanted to express at the time.”

“I wanted to put feathers on and be this kind of glam-rock, glitter fantasy Lisa Frank unicorn,” he said of that time in his life. “I was kind of making a statement and being extra bold on purpose.”

Adam described his current fashion phase as “a little more streamlined, in my life too.” Said the singer: “I’m drawn to clothes that are just a bit more classic with an edge. Something that’s still weird and special; but I’m into a more geometric, darker [look].”

“But who knows,” he said with smile, “I may be wearing neon yellow tomorrow.”

Adam Lambert Opens Up About The Bar Brawl That Landed Him In Jail

His Glamness Adam Lambert was arrested in Finland last month following a massive fight with his partner Sauli Koskinen outside of a club. The incident landed them both in jail, but now Glambert says things are fine between the two and chalks the whole thing up to much booze. He opened up about the experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this afternoon.

“What happened was, we had too much to drink. We screwed up,” he told Ellen. “There were no injuries, no violence. It was more of childish, foolish, messiness.” The argument between Adam and Sauli started in the Helsinki club DTM, but grew even more heated once they got booted out. When onlookers tried to intervene, Adam reportedly attacked them. Police were called, which resulted with several hours of jail time.”When you add alcohol to a situation, things can get out of control and some people can get upset and emotional,” he continued.

But things are still great between the couple, who were recently named the FABLife’s weekly Hotness. “I was a little irresponsible and I think what I learned from the experience was that I owe it to myself, to my loved ones, and to my fans to be a little more adult and pull it together.” Head under the jump to see what else Adam has to say!

Adam Lambert Dresses Down For Tonight Show

Adam Lambert has said that his upcoming album, Trespassing, will be “an exciting journey through the past two years of my life.” Our first taste of that has come by way of his first single, “Better Than I Know Myself,” a mid-tempo ballad that features his signature confessional lyrics and soaring notes. But after he performed it live for the first time on The Tonight Show last night, we are curious about something: Was his completely toned-down outfit, a black tux and a white shirt with no tie (pictured right), a sign of things to come? It’s quite a different look from his typical performance-wear (left), but we don’t know if it was just for this occasion or if Glambert is making way for a more subdued, introspective Lambert. You aren’t shy, Glambert Nation, so let us know your theories! And if you missed the performance, a separate clip hasn’t been made available yet, so fast-forward to the last segment (38 minutes in) in the video below.

Adam Lambert And Sauli Koskinen Are This Week’s Hotness!

When we put Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka up against Adam Lambert and Sauli Koskinen for our first ever couples’ Hotness poll on Wednesday, we had a pretty good guess who would win. But we didn’t really expect such a dramatic landslide. Sorry, NPH and DB, you and your twins are adorbs, but clearly Glambert rules the Internet. We received a whopping 30,095 votes for this one, and Adam and Sauli took more than 78 percent of those. We had votes coming in from 89 different countries, with the majority obviously from the U.S. and Sauli’s native Finland.

Speaking of overseas travels, Adam was recently interviewed by Pressparty about his upcoming album, Tresspassing, and asked if homophobia in the States ever makes him consider moving to Europe with Sauli. “As far as Europe is concerned, I’d love to live there someday,” he told the site. “I love European history and the lifestyle. However, I am an American with family and friends here, and no matter the socio-political climate, this is my home.”

Check out the gallery below to celebrate Adam and Sauli’s win.

This Week’s Hotness: Adam Lambert And Sauli Koskinen Vs. Neil Patrick Harris And David Burtka

Last week, when we posted our list of the 30 cutest non-Robsten couples of 2011, a number of you spoke up for a write-in couple (which, with Russell and Katy over, we definitely have an opening there): Adam Lambert and his boyfriend of one year (and partner in crime), Finnish reality-TV vet Sauli Koskinen.

But we can’t make things THAT easy for you, Glambert fans. We thought we’d stir the pot a little more and bring the Weekly Hotness poll back from its winter hiatus. So we present to you this special couples’ edition, pitting Adam and Sauli against that other perennially adorable example of true love: Neil Patrick Harris and fiance David Burtka.

On the one hand, Adam, 29, and Sauli, 26, are undeniably gorgeous, and they look good together too. Plus their shared background in reality TV must have made for good conversation when they first hooked up.
On the other, Neil, 38, and David, 36, have the cuteness factor in their favor — especially when you include their 1-year-old twins, Gideon and Harper. They’ve also got longevity, having been together since 2004. Also, who can vote against Doogie?

But we’ll let you be the judge. Peruse the gallery and vote before the poll closes Friday at 1 p.m. ET.

Taylor Lautner Fake Isn’t Joining These Awesome Coming Out Covers

You have to feel sorry for Taylor Lautner. No, not because someone faked this People magazine cover story in which he apparently comes out of the closet and is “more liberated, and happier than I’ve ever been” as a result. (Just in case you didn’t smell a rat about such a story being a “special double issue,” a People rep confirmed that it was fake to GossipCop.com. Also, that quote should seem mighty familiar to some of you … more later.) But because he’d be in some really great company if he were gay and chose to come out in this manner. So many celebs have been announcing their sexual preference via their own websites or TV interviews, but the tradition of the heartfelt magazine cover story interview — whether it’s a shocking revelation or confirming years of rumors and speculation — has a warm place in our pop-culture hearts. Scroll down for some classics:

Back in 1976, Elton John’s first admission in print that he was bisexual isn’t even mentioned on the cover of Rolling Stone. In fact, it isn’t discussed until the very end of the article. We’re not sure if that’s because it was too shocking or not shocking in the least. “There’s nothing wrong with going to bed with somebody of your own sex,” the singer declared. “I think everybody’s bisexual to a certain degree. I don’t think it’s just me. It’s not a bad thing to be.”

Adam Lambert Gets Arrested In Finland

Adam Lambert is in jail in Finland and was arrested very early in the morning today. Perez Hilton reports that he got into a “huge fight” with his Finnish boyfriend, Sauli Koskinen outside a gay bar called ‘Don’t Tell Momma’ in Helsinki. This happened around 4 am. Apparently, some strangers tried to break up the fight and got attacked by Adam as well. Crazy right? The singer and his boyfriend are currently in separate jails right now — Adam’s at Pasila police station and Sauli in Töölö. We’ll keep you posted about the bail situation and a possible explanation as and when news emerges.

AMAs Most Questionable Fashions: We Can’t Make Up Our Minds!

Of all the fashions we spotted on the red carpet and onstage at last night’s AMAs, there were some that were clearly awesome and others that hurt our delicate eyes. But then there was the middle ground. The outfits that confuse our sense of right and wrong. Daring, but maybe too much. Awful, but maybe in an interesting way. Gorgeous if only they fit better.

Maybe you can help us out: Were Justin Bieber‘s tiger-striped pants hideous or hilarious? Should we admire J.Lo‘s nude bodysuit on the grounds that it showed off her assets? If Jennifer Hudson looked so uncomfortable in her super-short gold dress, does that detract from its hotness? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @theFABlife.
