Tyra Bank’s Top 25 Super Smized Looks

When Tyra Banks isn’t busy as a Harvard grad student, model, executive producer, entrepreneur, TV host, mentor…okay, okay the lovely Ms. Banks wears a lot of hats. And we must admit she wears all of them well. Another skill the media mogul can tack on to her never-ending resume is phrase coiner. Yes, the “smize” creator herself. Tyra coined the term back in her 13th cycle of America’s Next Top Model, urging the girls to smile with their eyes in their photos. In honor of the top model maker’s 38th birthday today, here are 25 super model pics of Tyra’s smize.

Tyra Banks Is Doing Magazine Covers Again

Tyra Banks is on the cover of the very artsy, Berlin-based I Love You magazine, and it’s an eye-catcher, to say the least. This is Miss Tyra’s first magazine cover in three years — the last one being Harper’s Bazaar in 2008. With the cover line “Miss Powerhouse,” the mag shows Tyra in canary-yellow, theatrical eye makeup, and the more we look at it, the more it grows on us. This is the seventh issue of the magazine and is called “The Wrong Issue.” But the question is, is this look “the wrong fit” for Tyra? Let us know if you think she’s working it.

Alicia Keys’ Black Ball Attacts Some Colorful Fashions

Last night, Alicia Keys continued her work to solve the AIDS crisis, hosting the 8th Annual Keep a Child Alive Black Ball at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. While helping to fund research, treatment and care for those affected by AIDS, the guest were treated to performances by the likes of Keys, Usher, Mary J. Blige, will.i.am and more. The evening also honored the late Beatle and philanthropist George Harrison. Our invite was surely lost in the mail, but we’re content to gaze upon the stars’ best red-carpet fashions. Style Seen: Tyra Plays It (Not Too) Safe

It’s not every day you get a supermodel-media-mogul-TV-host-business-school-student in your office. We’re still a bit dazed by the thought of having Tyra Banks roaming through our halls as we sat, with terrible posture and last season’s knockoffs, at our unflatteringly lit desks. Oh, OK, they’re this year’s knockoffs. Anyway, it’s been a whole week since Miss TyTy was here for Big Morning Buzz Live, but we thought we’d take a look back at her very clever safety-pin-printed McQ dress and Walter Steiger pumps. Sarah Hyland, Tyra Banks Send Us Fantasy Shoe Shopping

On a Friday morning, sometimes, all you want to do is throw on your favorite jeans and last year’s well-worn thigh-high boots. But not if you’re going to be on TV, of course. And certainly not if you’re Tyra Banks or Modern Family‘s Sarah Hyland, who were both sporting some fierce (sorry) footwear on this morning’s Big Morning Buzz Live. After spotting them on the Shoe Cam, we did a little research/fantasy shopping.

Tyra was helpful enough to mention that her very Gaga-esque, curve-heeled black pumps were from Walter Steiger. And there are available at Barney’s for just $750! (Sigh.)

We’ve Found Tyra Banks’ Weakness: Algebraic Equations!

How time flies. It seems like just yesterday (OK, eight months ago) that we were all marveling at Tyra Banks’ decision to enroll herself in Harvard Business School. Now she’s been through two terms already and is set to graduate in February. So not only was she juggling her America’s Next Top Model duties and writing her debut young-adult novel, Modelland, but she’s also wrapping this up in three semesters?

In an effort to improve the self-esteem of normal human beings, when Tyra stopped by for today’s Big Morning Buzz Live, we had to ask if there was anything actually challenging her in school.

“My most difficult class at Harvard Business School would have to be finance,” she replied. “For the first 30 minutes of the class, I’m raising my hand, I’m all into it, ‘cause it’s kind of like theory and just like, the social part of the case. The last hour it’s all like Einstein and algebraic equations and craziness. And I’m just like, what the hell is going on? Please don’t call on me because it won’t be pretty.”

Happy Spirit Day! Our Favorite Celeb Tweets Against LGBT Bullying

Lots of us are wearing purple today, supporting Spirit Day, which started last year in response to the horrifying spate of LGBT teen suicides linked to bullying. But even if the color didn’t fit in your wardrobe, the wonders of social networking have made it possible to turn your profile pic purple, and we think that counts too. No Banks… Just Call Her “Tyra”

Much like Cher or Madonna, Ms Tyra Banks has decided to drop her last name and go by — Tyra! She made the announcement while on The Ellen DeGeneres Show saying, “Okay, I have officially dropped the Banks from Tyra on the Ellen show.” So she wants to be mononymous? You know what, let’s just let her. This is the woman who made “smiling with your eyes” (on America’s Next Top Model) the most terrifying exercise ever. This is the woman who introduced the bald hotness that is Nigel Barker as the “noted fashion photographer” to us. This is the woman who made the world sit up and take notice of Miss J — runway diva extraordinaire. This is the woman who got her boobs felt up on national television because they’re REAL.

But more importantly, this is the woman who got Robert Pattinson to bite her on the neck live in front of a studio audience. It was the most brilliantly embarrassing thing we have ever seen. And we’re jealous. So yeah … if the woman wants to be just “Tyra”, it’s fine by us lady.

Who Was That Masked Model?

Well, here’s a party that will give us nightmares. It’s Paris Fashion Week, and last night Vogue threw a masked ball that looks like it was quite a debaucherous but elegant affair. Basically everyone from the fashion and modeling world was there in some variation of mask that ranged from elegant to haunting to 7-11 robber who wore fishnets instead of traditional pantyhose (that would be Tyra, could you tell?)

We haven’t seen so many funny/scary pictures from a party in a long time. Kate Moss looks trashed (could that look and hair be intentional? With her you never know), Lenny Kravitz looks like Zorro, and Dita Von Teese looks exactly the same as she always does. If you have an aversion to clowns. mesh, or Eyes Wide Shut, proceed with caution.

UPDATE! We were so right about Tyra. She actually did fashion her mask out of an old pair of fishnets. She Tweeted about it, saying: “So FRENCH VOGUE mask is sum cheap FISHNET stockings I got n crazy store n Paris! I cut em up n made it y’all. N did my ow hair n makeup.” You don’t say.

Style Wars: Which Stunner Takes The Cake?

Old man Cavalli sure knows how to make the foxy ladies flock. He threw a 40th anniversary party in Paris last night, and gorgeous women from all over the world showed up in their most fabulous frocks by Roberto.

Heidi Klum seriously looks more amazing after every kid she births, Bar Refaeli made a turtlenecked dress look hot, and Rachel Bilson stepped out in curve-hugging leopard print. Say what you will about Taylor Swift‘s shaky vocal chops, her foray into a style icon is what’s keeping our attention – and we’re really digging her recently retro up-dos. Karolina Kurkova was among the countless Cavalli-lovin’ supermodels (Naomi Campbell, Natalie Vodianova, Eva Herzigova) who strutted their svelte stuff in show-stopping gowns.

Failing to impress was cuckoo bird Tyra Banks in a jumper-blazer combo, and Leona Lewis in an overly complicated coral number. We threw our five best dressed beauties in the poll above – who looked the most fab?
