Rihanna, Taylor Swift And A Few Surprises Make Our Grammy 20 Best-Dressed List

As the music world continued to mourn the loss of Whitney Houston, many of the stars on the Grammy red carpet decided that the way to honor the late diva was not to tone down their dazzling gowns, but to let them shine. Taylor Swift, Jessie J., David Guetta and Carrie Underwood were all aglitter. Amber Rose went in an entirely different direction, lighting up the evening in a bright yellow Versace. And then there were a few ladies and gents whose simple black was not the stuff of mourning, but of total sex appeal: We’re looking at you, Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson. 2011 brought along with it a host of new fashion trends, from long-sleeved gowns to daytime sequins to the ever-unfortunate mullet dress. VH1 Divas Style Seen: Jessie J Turns Heads With 3 Skintastic Outfits

Watch VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul Monday, Dec. 19 at 9/8c.

When VH1 Diva performer Jessie J stopped by to chat with our red carpet host La La Anthony about her jaw-dropping outfit, she explained: “I sat with Falguni and Shane Peacock and I explained to them that I need a dress that’s skin tight that makes me feel like a diva.” Mission accomplished, thrice! Her red carpet number, a sheer black dress with gold embroidery and crucifix imagery, was one of the most talked-about outfits of the night, possibly because it made only a feeble attempt to cover her bra and panties — although she sure kept her feet modest with that black curtain.

As Mary J. Blige gets set to perform on VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul (airing Mon., Dec. 19 at 9PM EST), we’ve been wondering why the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is so universally loved. We’d guess it partially has to do with Mary J. practicing what she preaches in her hit “My Life.” The lyrics, in case you’ve forgotten:

AMAs Worst Fashion: Christina Aguilera’s Bandage Dress And Other Catastrophes

While some of the stars brought their A fashion game to the AMAs last night, we’re convinced that a few others let their stylists leave for Thanksgiving break early. Surely a professional would prevent Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera from choosing the least flattering gowns for their body type this side of our high school prom. Jennifer Lopez managed to land in our best- and worst-dressed lists (and an upcoming questionable list), thanks to her numerous costume changes and unfortunate decision to continue plugging Fiat in the middle of her performance. Now, we’re pretty sure red-carpet staple Phoebe Price and LMFAO‘s Redfoo were trying to land on this lists, but David Hasselhoff hurt our eyes in those boxers. Keep your pants on, Hoff. Please.

Demi Lovato To Keanu Reeves: 10 Headbangin’ Celebs On National Metal Day

In case you didn’t realize, VH1 Classic has declared today, 11/11/11, National Metal Day. We’re sure we’re not the only ones to blast Mastodon in our headphones while everyone assumes we’re typing away to the sweet sounds of Britney Spears. Not every metalhead wears leather pants, T-shirts and a scowl, right? Over the years, several surprising celebs have come out of the closet as fans of the hard stuff — and not just when those Iron Maiden shirts were really popular at Hot Topic.

Years ago, MTV discovered that Demi Lovato was a serious fan of black metallers Dimmu Borgir among other groups we’re sure never appeared on Radio Disney. Kat Dennings likes to tweet about knitting while listening to metal. This 10-minute video of a tipsy Kelly Clarkson rocking out onstage at a Metal Skool show in 2006 is truly endearing. And only one celeb has actually toured with Ozzfest — Ms. Jada Pinkett Smith. Check out the other headbanging A-listers in the gallery!

Kelly Clarkson Puts Together A New Girl Band!

Big news for Kelly Clarkson. We’ve always seen her as the kick-ass soloist that she is but it’s time to embrace her in her new avatar. Kelly has formed a girl band called Already Famous! It’s going to be a trio comprised of Kelly and her former backup singers Kate Rapier and Jill Pickering, and apparently they’ve already gone full speed ahead with recording! She tweeted that she was in Oklahama last week to lay down some songs with her new compadres. Already Famous even has its own Twitter page, so if you wanna know what Ms. Clarkson’s up to, you can check in. Big luck to the trio. We can’t help but wonder if America’s going to accept Kelly with a package. We’re all so used to seeing her killing the stage all on her own. Will two other people dilute her stage presence? Let us know.

Jordin Sparks Gets Racy, Lacy For Ali’s Fight Night

Jordin Sparks was showing off her slimmed-down bod on the red carpet this weekend, dropping by Muhammad Ali‘s Fight Night concert in a low-cut, black, lace-accented dress with plenty of side-boob. The 21 year old’s working on her third album, so the odds are good we’ll see more flirty fashion like this in the future. Among the performers at the event were fellow Idol champ Kelly Clarkson, Bret Michaels, Reba McEntire and Kevin Costner, who must be trying to bring his country music career back stateside (2010′s Turn It On was only released in Europe). It’s pretty awesome that a bunch of kids who auditioned for a reality show eight months ago got to share the stage with people like Janet Jackson (Miss Jackson if you’re nasty!), Chicago, Joe Cocker, and Hall and Oates tonight. Janet Jackson! I mean!

In addition to all the special guests on the American Idol finale, there was a winner, and his name is Lee DeWyze. Okay, if you didn’t feel happy for the guy as he cried his way through “Beautiful Day”, you have a heart filled with poo. It became pretty obvious from the way Lee nervously handled his microphone in the moments leading up to his coronation that he really wanted this. We still have total confidence that Crystal Bowersox will have a killer career, but there’s only one winner, and – God, all his crying! It was touching. Suck it, paint store! We did enjoy the rest of the show more than we’ve probably enjoyed most other episodes of Idol, for our rundown of all the special surprises, read on.
