Grammys Red Carpet Hair: Colorful, Wild And Totally Wrong

We certainly would never want folks at the Grammys to go all Oscars sophisticated in the style department. We like our musicians unpredictable. At the same time, we feel really bad for any short person stuck sitting behind the massive hairstylings of Diana Ross or Corinne Bailey Rae. And we are not entirely sure we want Katy Perry’s match-your-hair-to-your-dress thing to catch on; that just seems exhausting. For better or worse, there was a lot of hair to marvel at last night. Paris Hilton and Taylor Swift had beautiful buns (HAIR buns, people!). Kelly Rowland’s ponytail brought out her eyes. Adele updated her style for her dramatic return to the stage. Rihanna’s big hair completed her Michelle Pfeiffer/Scarface look, while Jennifer Hudson’s ’80s ‘do was just part of a fitting homage to Whitney Houston’s heyday. Will we be taking pics of these stars to the salon anytime soon? Probably not. Well, not until its our turn to take the stage, anyway.

Bobby Brown, Mariah Carey, Clive Davis Mourn Whitney Houston Onstage And Online

While many of music’s biggest stars remembered Whitney Houston at the decidedly somber Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Saturday night, Bobby Brown was onstage with New Edition in Mississippi, tearfully dedicating his show to his ex-wife. TMZ reported that Brown was “in and out of crying fits” after hearing the news of Houston’s death before the show, but he still went on with his performance. “First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” he told fans, according to The Associated Press. “Second, I would like to say, ‘I love you, Whitney.’ The hardest thing for me to do is to come on this stage.”

Back in Beverly Hills, as fans held a vigil for Houston outside the hotel, Davis asked his guests for a moment of silence. “I do have a heavy heart, and I am personally devastated by someone so close to me for so many years,” he said. “My heart goes out to her daughter Bobbi Kristina and her mother, Cissy.” Everyone from Tony Bennett to Diddy to Alicia Keys shared their memories of Houston at the party, MTV News reports.

Grammy Awards producer Ken Erlich told reporters that tonight’s event will now include a tribute to Houston sung by Jennifer Hudson. He said the ceremony will “recognize Whitney’s remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years.”

Lindsay Lohan’s Bangs, Solo Heidi Klum Kick Off Fashion Week With amFAR Gala

It was difficult for us to tear our eyes away from the wonder that is Lindsay Lohan’s new set of bangs and bizarre hairy wrists at last night’s amFAR Gala. But it was an event to kick off New York Fashion Week, so there was plenty more to see. Heidi Klum attending solo for instance, in a dazzling gold-and-black dress. Miss Universe Leila Lopes shining in red. Kellan Lutz looking like he’s modeling in a prom tuxedo catalog. Jennifer Hudson and Cindy Crawford palling around and both showing off some impressive cleavage. Terry Richardson appearing to keep his hands to himself. VH1 News was on the red carpet, so stay tuned to hear what Theophilus London had to say about Heidi Klum and more!

VH1 Divas Style Seen: Jessie J Turns Heads With 3 Skintastic Outfits

Watch VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul Monday, Dec. 19 at 9/8c.

When VH1 Diva performer Jessie J stopped by to chat with our red carpet host La La Anthony about her jaw-dropping outfit, she explained: “I sat with Falguni and Shane Peacock and I explained to them that I need a dress that’s skin tight that makes me feel like a diva.” Mission accomplished, thrice! Her red carpet number, a sheer black dress with gold embroidery and crucifix imagery, was one of the most talked-about outfits of the night, possibly because it made only a feeble attempt to cover her bra and panties — although she sure kept her feet modest with that black curtain.

Mary J. Blige And Jennifer Hudson: Which VH1 Diva Rocked Neutral More?

Two of the biggest stars to walk on the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul carpet last night, ended up wearing outfits of the same shade only to very different ends. We’re talking about Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige, both of whom looked pretty nifty in a neutral. While Jennifer changed into four outfits through the night, it’s the short beige dress that she wore on the red carpet, and she looks gorgeous and tiny in it. Mary also wore creamy beige, but the hemline, as you can see on the right, was a lot longer. Her crystal embellished draped gown was by Michael Kors.

Metallics were huge at the event: Mob Wives‘ Drita D’avanzo slipped into skin-tight gold, Estelle shined in Grecian-style bronze and Love And Hip-Hop 2‘s Emily Bustamante shimmered in off-the-shoulder gunmetal. Jessie J paired her gold with sheer cut-outs and an asymmetrical bob, while The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi dressed in slinky black. Jill Scott looked royal in blue, La La Anthony paired a fuchsia lip with herringbone and a slick updo (because she’s business, not casual), and a tiny Jennifer Hudson paired peach with a mint manicure. Looking heavenly, both Mary J. Blige and Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine upped the glamor with glittering white. We hope looking this hot doesn’t ruin anyone’s diva reputation. La La Vazquez Anthony asked the most important diva-related question of all time tonight on the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul red carpet: which performer is destined to be the next Aretha Franklin? AMAs Most Questionable Fashions: We Can’t Make Up Our Minds!

Of all the fashions we spotted on the red carpet and onstage at last night’s AMAs, there were some that were clearly awesome and others that hurt our delicate eyes. But then there was the middle ground. The outfits that confuse our sense of right and wrong. Daring, but maybe too much. Awful, but maybe in an interesting way. Gorgeous if only they fit better.
