Kobe Bryant, Kenny G, Avril Lavigne And More Breakup News

It’s January, the weather’s finally getting cold, and, sadly, some hearts are even colder. There are days when it’s too depressing to deliver celebrity breakup and divorce news, so we’re ripping off the Band-aid and giving it to you all in one shot.

» First, you might consider this happy news, if you’re Team Vanessa. Kobe Bryant’s soon-to-be-ex is getting $75 million in the divorce settlement, half of the NBA star’s estimated assets, according to TMZ. That includes all three of their houses in the Newport Beach area.

» Kenny G’s wife of 20 years, Lyndie Benson-Gorelick, filed for separation from the smooth-jazz sax-player, E! Online reports. The couple has two sons, Max, 18, and Noah, 14.

» Eva Longoria’s previous attempts to remove her “Nine” tattoo tribute to ex husband Tony Parker have been unsuccessful, so she’s going to amazingly named tat-erasing expert Dr. Tatoff, per TMZ.

» And contrary to rumors of their split, Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner tweeted their love for each other: “It really upsets me to read all the FALSE!! stories. Avril has always been there for me and is the closest person to my heart. I love her,” Brody wrote on Tuesday, to which Avril replied, “luv u 2.” Still, those could also be interpreted as “just friends” declarations too.

Brody Jenner And Avril Lavigne Split Up

Oh no, say it isn’t so! Avril Lavigne and boyfriend Brody Jenner have broken up. They had been dating for almost two years, but somehow it seemed longer, right? Maybe the tattoos add years. Apparently, the culprit was a lack of balance between their careers and their relationship. A source told Us Weekly, “Every time he wanted to come back and take meetings to get his career back in order, she would make him go to Asia and Europe.” That’s not the worst thing in the world, according to us, but the sources say that it made Brody feel stifled.

Another source also revealed, “He hasn’t worked and he wants to. They were both unhappy because he wants to have his career, she wants him to stay with her.” But, this isn’t set in stone, the chatty source adds. “There is always a chance they will get back together. Brody is trying to set the ground rules and wants to be able to work. They have to find a balance.” That’s the word on the street. We wish them both luck with whatever they decide to do.

In the age of Twitter, it’s pretty amazing that more celebrities aren’t putting their foot in it these days. But enough of our favorite (or least favorite) actors, musicians and other public figures managed to say and do the kind of awful things that simultaneously give publicists strokes and keep them in business. After those awful things come the kind of public apologies that make us cringe, squirm and thank god we’re not in their shoes. From Chris Brown to Gilbert Gottfried, Arnold Schwarzenegger to Lea Michele, Hilary Swank to Mythbusters, we had a lot of Schadenfreude to enjoy in 2011. We’re pretty sure the culprits would like us to forget these moments, but here’s a little gallery to remind you:

The Lowdown On The MuchMusic Video Awards

The MuchMusic Video Awards went down last night in Toronto and we have to say that Selena Gomez is definitely the hostess with the mostess. Not only did she look super hot on stage, compering and performing, but she also got to hang with boyfriend Justin Bieber as he won “Ur Favorite Artist” and “International Video of the Year By A Canadian” (along with Drake). That’s really an award.

As we posted earlier, Lady Gaga‘s fake blue pubic fur may have been the show stopper, and she also emerged from an egg during the show as well. That’s a whole lot of “performance”, for which we’re certain Canada is most grateful for. Other than that, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev arrived hand-in-hand finally confirming what we’ve known for ages — that they’re a couple! An unexpected guest, but a very welcome one, was Colin Farrell too. We don’t know how he had fallen off our radar, but he’s back on for good now! Avril Lavigne Apologizes For Pulling An Avril Lavigne At A Tampa Rays Game

Oh angry Avril Lavigne, it’s like we’re in 2002 again, back when you had your wee little ties and Manic Panic-streaked hair and zip-up hoodies…okay, well, maybe not that much has changed since then. That being said, unlike the actions of the skate-pop princess a decade ago, Avril Lavigne swearing at a Tampa Devil Rays game this Saturday was immediately followed by an apology, rather than a lot of silent eye-rolling and heaving sighs like we would have expected. After the crowd started to boo Lavigne during a break caused by a technical difficulty, Avril snarled that such things “f–king happen on a baseball field.” Avril then slammed every door in Tropicana Stadium and screamed for her mom to get out of her room already.

On Sunday, the Rays chided Lavigne’s potty-mouth, saying “The Rays demand profanity-free performances from all of our concert performers and we are extremely disappointed by the language used in last night’s show.” Later Avril apologized for the profanity to the crowd, explaining, “We just had so much fun tonight and we want to take the tirade out and say thank you to the Tampa Bay Rays! I’m truly sorry if anyone was offended by my language.” Avril then purchased everything in an entire Hot Topic, because girlfriend isn’t that mature.

With Lady Gaga home trying to get the deposit back on her egg, Rihanna had yesterday’s BRIT Awards all to herself, taking home Best International Female Star and grinding her way through a medley of recent hits—losing a little more clothing with each one. Grammy upstarts The Arcade Fire took Best International Album (“check us out on Google,” leader Win Butler cracked), while Grammy New Artist loser Justin Bieber took International Breakthrough Act.
