Back in Beverly Hills, as fans held a vigil for Houston outside the hotel, Davis asked his guests for a moment of silence. “I do have a heavy heart, and I am personally devastated by someone so close to me for so many years,” he said. “My heart goes out to her daughter Bobbi Kristina and her mother, Cissy.” Everyone from Tony Bennett to Diddy to Alicia Keys shared their memories of Houston at the party, MTV News reports.

Grammy Awards producer Ken Erlich told reporters that tonight’s event will now include a tribute to Houston sung by Jennifer Hudson. He said the ceremony will “recognize Whitney’s remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years.”

And on Twitter, many in the industry publicly mourned the vocal powerhouse who had both inspired and mentored them. “Heartbroken and in tears over the shocking death of my friend, the incomparable Ms. Whitney Houston,” Mariah Carey wrote. “My heartfelt condolences to Whitney’s family and to all her millions of fans throughout the world. She will never be forgotten as one of the greatest voices to ever grace the earth.”

Kelly Rowland wrote: “I am beyond heartbroken. Whitney Houston was undoubtedly one of the greatest singers & performers of all time & such a huge influence on me. … She embraced me when I first started out with Destiny’s Child, with love, with encouragement and with that powerhouse voice. … My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to her daughter, her mother and to all of her loved ones.”

“No words! Just tears #DearWhitney,” Rihanna tweeted. And Nicki Minaj reacted with disbelief: “Jesus Christ, not Whitney Houston. Greatest of all time.”

Houston’s death had personal meaning for those who hadn’t worked with her, as well. “Today is my Moms birthday and her Hero just passed away we feel like she was a part of our family. RIP Whitney we Love u,” model Amber Rose wrote, echoing the thoughts of millions.

The morning after the tragic death of Whitney Houston, the cause of the singer’s sudden demise at age 48 remains a mystery. But sordid details about her last days and evidence in her Beverly Hills Hotel room are beginning to surface. An unresponsive Houston was found in her hotel bathtub, and police found prescription drugs in the room, sources told TMZ. The L.A. Coroner officials removed her body from the hotel at 1:50 a.m. PT and will conduct an autopsy today, ABC News reports.

Houston’s cousin, singer Dionne Warwick, and her mother, Cissy Houston, both spoke to Whitney earlier on Saturday and discussed their plans for the Clive Davis party that night in the hotel. Davis, Houston’s longtime friend and mentor, spoke at the party, dedicating the evening to her. “I do have a heavy heart, and I am personally devastated by someone so close to me for so many years,” he said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Houston appeared “erratic,” “disheveled” and “bloated” last Thursday, when she stopped by Brandy and Monica’s rehearsal for the Davis party. She skipped around the ballroom and some said she smelled of alcohol and cigarettes. Daughter Bobbi Kristina pulled her out of the room before interviews with Monica and Brandy began. Later that night, she attended Kelly Price’s party at Tru nightclub and sang a duet with the singer in what became her last public performance. While some said Houston seemed unwell, Price told MTV News, “I honestly don’t know what all the craziness is about. … We partied so hard, we all looked a mess when we walked out of the club. But that’s a good party. You sweat. You do that.”

Whitney Houston died this afternoon at the age of 48. The Grammy award-winning performer’s death was confirmed to the Associate Press by her rep, Kristen Foster. According to TMZ, paramedics were allegedly called to the Beverly Hilton hotel earlier today after Houston was found “unresponsive” in her room; though an attempt was made to revive the singer, she was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen has since verified that the singer did pass away at the hotel. Houston leaves behind one child, daughter Bobbi Kristina, with ex-husband Bobby Brown.

Vanessa Hudgens: Academy Award nominee. We’ll probably have to type out that exact same phrase again some day, if the lengths Hudgens went to in preparing for upcoming film Gimme Shelter are any indication. “I actually went and stayed in the shelter for two weeks before I started filming,” Hudgens said of her time living at a homeless shelter, which she revealed as part of her interview on The Rachael Ray Show. “I lived there with all the girls, with all the kids. It’s really empowering and it’s fun pushing yourself as far as you can.” Seeing as how Vanessa’s last film was Sucker Punch…this is some straight-up Daniel Day-Lewis ish in comparison.

While the former High School Musical star is currently promoting her action-adventure film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Vanessa is clearly interested in roles that require much more of a transformation. “[Rosario Dawson and I] look so messed up in this movie,” Hudgens remarked, describing her screen mom’s “meth head” look as well as her own character’s ragged, uneven ‘do. “I actually cut my own hair… I did that to myself, yes I did,” Vanessa added. Meanwhile Rosario Dawson will also be giving the performance of a lifetime in Gimme Shelter…as a woman old enough to be Vanessa Hudgens’ mom.

It’s Day Two of New York Fashion Week, and the celebrity sightings are starting to pile up — no small feat, given that it’s also the beginning of Grammy Awards weekend in Los Angeles, and we’re sure those parties are tempting many a famous face away from this coast. Can you guess the only thing Madonna hates more than hydrangeas? For the last time, nothing! That being said, it seems like M.I.A.’s Super Bowl middle finger stunt has also gotten stuck in Madge’s craw something fierce. “I wasn’t happy about it. I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity it seemed negative,” the singer complained to Ryan Seacrest‘s KIIS-FM show this morning. “It’s one of the those things, it’s such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do…there was such a feeling of love and unity there what was the point? Everyone’s favorite not-really-a-Nazi tattooed fetish model is getting in the ring with adult-film star Devon James (one of Tiger Woods’ alleged paramours) in a fight put on by the Celebrity Boxing Federation on Saturday, at the Ocean Manor Resort in Fort Lauderdale. This isn’t the first time McGee is fighting for a belt — she tried her hand at wrestling back in 2010 and won against another porn star. This time, she’s got even more motivation to win: She’s promoting her new DVD Michelle Bombshell: Caught on Tape. So many accomplishments, that one. Seeing Scott Speedman acting opposite Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams in The Vow has made many of us a little more than nostalgic for his Felicity heyday. All week long people have been peppering him with reunion questions, and he responded jokingly, not realizing how crazy it would drive us.

“I think I made some offhand comment about me being a giant fat person [in a reunion show], but that’s not really what I’ve been wanting to do! I didn’t think that would get so much leverage,” he told us. “I think it would be fun to get together and see where the story is, but I don’t know, that’s probably not going to happen. There’s so many people doing too many different things right now.”

In all seriousness, though, Speedman is interested in coming back to the small screen. “Especially right now, there seems to be a lot of good television happening,” he said. “It’s hard after you do a show that people really like and you really like doing, it’s hard to just choose just to do anything. So I’ve been sort of picky about what I wanted to do.”

How about ringing up Felicity creator J.J. Abrams? “We’ve talked a little bit in the past about certain kind of things, but any time he would call, I’d be more than interested. He’s great.”

But there’s another reunion we’re dying to see: a re-teaming of Speedman with fellow Canadian Ryan Gosling, who starred with him in an episode of Goosebumps, “Say Cheese and Die,” in 1996. Big Morning Buzz Live dug up a clip of this fine example of their acting. Watch his thrilled, This Is Your Life-worthy reaction:

“I understand now why I have a career, based on that,” Speedman said, adding that he’s spoken to Gosling since that fateful meeting. “I’m sure he’s super excited to see that.”

Assuming the camera don’t lie, George Clooney and Stacy Keibler are still going strong. They were snapped leaving Dan Tana’s Italian Restaurant in Los Angeles last night, and Splash News reports that George blasted the awaiting paparazzi with an air horn hidden under his hat. He and Stacy appear to be laughing at the prank in the car in the pic above. And maybe they’re also laughing at rumors that her time with George will come to an end once the Oscars are over and she’s no longer needed to be his red carpet arm candy.

We’re not sure what to make of the theory that they’re faking it for the cameras. On the one hand, the two do look great together in their awards-show finery, and the relationship has certainly upped her status. On the other, do two such beautiful, confident people really need to have a fake relationship for the cameras? Seems silly, when they could obviously win hearts for real. On the other, other hand (gossip is a many-limbed beast), they could have had a real thing for a while, but then when they eventually realized that they’re not right for each other, they didn’t want a breakup to distract from his Oscar campaign. God, that sounds even more cynical than the first hand.

The National Enquirer (via Celebitchy), is floating a report that George told a friend: “She’s everything that every man would want, but I’m ready to move on.” As little faith as we have in the Enquirer, that sentence just threatened to ruin our morning. So, to bring things back to a happier course, we’ll watch Clooney and his Descendants director, Alexander Payne, in Wednesday’s Times Talks live stream, in which Clooney will warm our hearts again with a story about running in flip-flops.

Madonna may be on top of the world after her stellar Super Bowl performance and the release of her hot new single, but now she’s got some pretty terrifying news to deal with. Her convicted stalker has reportedly escaped from his mental healthcare facility and is currently on the loose in Los Angeles. The LAPD released a statement today saying that the patient, 54-year-old Robert Dewey Hoskins, “is a very psychotic man when not taking his medication and has very violent tendencies.”

Hoskins was arrested back in 1996 for stalking the super star, and sentenced to ten years in state prison. According to court testimony, the man repeatedly showed up at Madonna’s Hollywood estate and made threats to kill her, her body guards and her personal assistants. ”I feel incredibly disturbed that the man who repeatedly threatened my life is sitting across the room from me,” Madonna said during the trial. “I feel we are making his fantasies come true.” She also admitted to having nightmares where she was being chased. Anyone with information on Hoskins’ whereabouts are urged to get in contact with the Los Angeles Police Department. Hang in there, Madge!

Sarah Jessica Parker snapped up Demi Moore‘s role in Lovelace pretty soon after Moore had to withdrawal from the film following her alleged drug-related emergency. Looking back…it might have been a little too quick for SJP. “I didn’t know at the time that they were down to their last few days of shooting on the whole movie,” Parker told Entertainment Tonight at last night’s amfAR Gala in New York. “I read the script and didn’t have enough time to think about it properly. [If I had,] I probably would have said no, because it was a daunting experience for lots of obvious and less obvious reasons.” Such as? Come on, Sarah. You cannot leave us hanging like this!

If you recall, there were only two whirlwind days between Demi’s decision to drop out of filming and Sarah landing the part, during which the rumor mill also volleyed names like Mary Louise Parker and Chloe Sevigny as possible replacement Gloria Steinems. Based on the photos snapped on-set of Parker’s famous feminist, she at least looks the part. If we’re basing our assessment solely on her wig (and we are), we’d say SJP’s professional reputation has nothing to worry about.

Congratulations, Halle Berry! Also, we are so very sorry! According to TMZ, this must be one confusing time for the Dark Tide star. While Halle is allegedly officially betrothed to gentleman friend Olivier Martinez a month after engagement rumors first popped up, the actress also allegedly received death threats from a named Robert Hoskins. Berry allegedly feels so threatened by Hoskins that she is hoping to move with daughter Nahla Ariela to Martinez’s native France. Is there a card for complicated situations like this? You know what? Nevermind. We’ll just get one that’s blank on the inside.

Sadly this isn’t the first time Halle has had to deal with aggressive stalkers; last July Berry had to filed a restraining order against a man named Richard Franco after he broke into her home..twice. Seeing as how Hoskins is the very same man who was shot by Madonna‘s bodyguards while attempting to break into the singer’s home in 1995, we’d say Halle has every right to be terrified. Why do stalkers have to ruin every engagement? Or even one of them?

Phew! The we were worried for a minute there, when we first took a gander at the pics Entertainment Tonight acquired of Macaulay Culkin, looking, um, rather unwell. But! “Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health,” his rep told ET. And to Us Weekly, the rep went even further: “Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health. For Entertainment Tonight or any other media to speculate otherwise is thoughtless, irresponsible and destructive.”

Well, yeah, but it’s kind of hard not to speculate when you can see the guy’s skull through his skin. And we were just concerned for the boy we grew up with. And we are kind of mad at him for ruining that. Well, not really. The guy’s 32. And he has done his darndest to break away from his adorable image by getting married at 17, getting arrested for drug possession, playing demented club kid Michael Alig in Party Monster and dating one of the hottest chicks on the planet, Mila Kunis. But he was so good in Saved! with Jena Malone and Mandy Moore, we thought it was a good sign of his potential beyond childhood cuteness.

If you want to try and market that Blue Ivy energy drink, you better do it fast, because Beyonce and Jay-Z are taking steps to trademark their daughters name. According to the L.A. Times, the super-parents have already filled out an application at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to copyright their daughter’s distinctive moniker. The couple want to have the exclusive rights to the name, in hopes of launching a brand of baby products in the near future. Apparently the patent office has been flooded with “Blue Ivy”-themed applications since the baby’s birth on January 7th. Rolling Stone reports that a fashion designer tried to trademark “Blue Ivy Carter NYC”, and another wannabe entrepreneur attempted to snag “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” to use for a brand of perfume. Both of these requests have been denied, along with all others so far. But we have a funny feeling that Bey and Jay are likely going to be the exception!

Suge Knight, it breaks our hearts to see you so completely bummed out like this. Things really aren’t so bad! So, according to TMZ, you got arrested last night in Las Vegas after making an “unsafe lane change” in your Bentley. And, okay, sure, the cops noticed that you had several warrants out for your arrest for minor traffic violations and, yes, maybe they decided to search your car and found a “small amount” of marijuana in your possession. Then you posed for the World’s Glummest Celebrity Mugshot. But do you know what Suge Knight calls an arrest in Las Vegas? Wednesday night. Ah…is that a smile we see? We thought so.

That movie’s love triangle, he said isn’t quite as fair as the one that made him famous: the fight against Noel for Felicity.

“I feel like the Felicity one was more balanced,” he said. “There was more screen time for all in that one. This one [in The Vow] is more skewed one way.”

So, who does he think would win in a real-life love triangle?

“Oh man, I guess it depends on the girl,” he said. “I don’t know, he’s doing really well right now, so probably that guy. Probably Channing Tatum would win that one!”

Man, ladies have been keeping it real recently; Jamie Lynn Spears, we’re looking at you here. As you might expect, Chelsea Handler is keeping it realer than most, especially when discussing her teen pregnancy and abortion with Rosie O’Donnell. “I was so delusional,” the Chelsea Lately host revealed on Wednesday’s episode of The Rosie Show. “I was like, ‘I’m ready for a baby.’” Finding herself pregnant at 16, Handler’s parents suggest their daughter get an abortion, which she eventually did. “You’re supposed to create a life for yourself,” she recalls them saying. “We want you to enjoy your life and not be raising a child, and we’re certainly not going to raise it for you.” Oh well, that basically explains how Chelsea Handler can talk openly about anything and everything. Even things that would make other people squirm.

The writer and comedian also opened up about the death of her mother and brother, as well as her unfiltered take on sex and relationships. Concluded Handler, “You should do whatever you want with your body and you shouldn’t let anyone tell you what to do.” Can Rosie O’Donnell just change the name of her show to Real Talk? Can Chelsea Handler just change her actual name to Real Talk?

Chelsea Handler Gets Frank About Sex

We hold Rihanna near and dear to our hearts for oh so many reasons. Her catchy songs are certainly big part of her appeal, as are her outspoken and often hilarious outbursts on Twitter. But we can’t think of Rihanna without her unique (some would say “risque”) sense of style coming to the front of our mind. She spent most of 2011 pantsless, toured the world in a bikini this winter, and routinely ventures out with little more than Saran Wrap for a shirt. We expect her to wear garter-belts and bandana tube top to a damn christening, and we love her for it! So that’s why we’re a little surprised when she arrived at L.A.’s Pizzeria Mozza last night looking like she came straight from a job interview. Why so formal, Riri? Going for pizza requires business casual attire at max! But we have to admit, the whole pencil skirt and blouse look is really working for her. First rule of show-biz: always leave ‘em wanting more. The A stands for “Ahhh, girl! The mastermind behind Woodley’s racier look? None other than Drew Barrymore, who hand-picked Woodley for the cover, as well as photographed her au natural. When we first saw this picture of big screen action legends Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone posing in twin hospital beds, we assumed it was a promo for the biggest bummer buddy movie ever. But sadly, it appears that Sly and The Governator really are laid up. “After all the action, stunts & physical abuse shooting The Expendables 2 and The Last Stand, it was time for a little tune up on my shoulder,” Arnold wrote when he posted this photo to his website. All of you who read that caption in his trademark “Ah-Nuld Voice”, raise your hands. We thought so.

Stallone happened to be visiting the hospital at the same time to get fixed up from a rematch with Apollo Creed (we imagine). We guess it’s nice that the old friends are doing stuff together…we just wish it didn’t include surgeries. It’s way too real. Get well soon, guys! The aging stars are set to team up outside the recovery room to film The Tomb this spring. We’ll be happier for that reunion.

When we came across this picture of Shia LeBeouf hanging out with comedians Jim Gaffigan and Thomas Lennon, our minds came to a screeching halt. No, it wasn’t just because of the sheer randomness of the people gathered in the photo. It’s something much bigger, scragglier and grizzlier. We are of course talking about Shia’s beard, which has now officially reached epic proportions. Is he trying out for a part in Young Santa, the St. Nick biopic that we just made up right now? We hope, because we bet it would be Oscar bait. But truly the best part of his facial hair explosion is how he appears to have waxed the tip of his mustache. It definitely adds to that whole “dastardly but debonair villain” look. We get it, Shia, you’re not a kid anymore! But we’ll still always love Even Stevens.

But it was an event to kick off New York Fashion Week, so there was plenty more to see. Heidi Klum attending solo for instance, in a dazzling gold-and-black dress. Miss Universe Leila Lopes shining in red. Kellan Lutz looking like he’s modeling in a prom tuxedo catalog. Jennifer Hudson and Cindy Crawford palling around and both showing off some impressive cleavage. Terry Richardson appearing to keep his hands to himself.
