Gaultier’s Runway Tribute To Amy Winehouse: Playful Or Tasteless?

When we first saw photos from Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Paris Couture show on Wednesday, we thought the designer’s tribute to Amy Winehouse — models in behive wigs, outfits slightly askew, as an a capella doowop band performed her hits — sounded playful and kind of sweet. Apparently, her family disagrees.

“The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock,” Mitch Winehouse reportedly told The Sun, accusing the fashion house of cashing in on Amy’s image. (This coming from a grieving father who’s publishing a memoir about Amy due out this summer, but you know, he’s doing it for the kids.) Many agree that it was not in the best taste, what with the models’ smeared makeup and cigarettes not showing Amy at her best, and say JPG probably should be pledging some cash to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, the way her Fred Perry Collection has done. We’re torn.

Chloe Mortez Vs. Blake Lively: The Black-And-White Showdown

Chloe Moretz and Blake Lively, who are both co-starring in Hick, showed up in the same color palette at the Jason Wu for Target launch held in New York yesterday. The beauties in black and white have so much going on that it’s hard to pick a favorite. Chloe — quite the fashionista in her own right — wore a black pleated skirt with a white blouson and a rockabilly bow tie. All from Jason’s Target collection, FYI. Chloe had her hair up in youthful, slightly messy braids, styled just like the models in the lookbook. What really won us over are those incredible two-tone heels with the bow-tie ankle straps. Age appropriate, yet right on the money.

Blake, on the other hand, looked ridiculously chic in a black-and-white cocktail peplum (that trumpeting around the waist) dress. Not many could pull this off. It’s from Jason Wu’s Spring-Summer 2012 collection. She also gets extra marks for that huge knuckleduster ring and those Christian Louboutin Fifi Pailettes snakeskin pumps. Both young actresses pulled off some serious monochromatic magic … but who wore it better? Sound off in the comments section!

Rumors We Love: Oprah Is Going To Be Blue Ivy’s Godmother!

As if she wasn’t already the most hooked up kid on the planet, little Blue Ivy Carter is about to get some more serious star power. Apparently her super celeb mom and dad, Beyonce and Jay-Z, have asked Oprah to be her godmother! Although the reports haven’t been confirmed by the couple themselves, RadarOnline reports that the talk show legend has been tapped to be a godparent, along side Jay-Z’s pal Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith. If it’s true, Baby Blue can probably expect some seriously killer birthday parties. (“You get a pony! And you get a pony! Everybody gets a pony!”).

Oprah would definitely be an awesome and obvious choice for Blue Ivy’s fairy godmother. She’s already been doting on the newborn, in a distinctly Oprah-like way. Instead of sending the new baby a pimped-out stroller or badass crib (see what we did there?), the Big O sent over a “trunk” filled with her favorite children’s books. Awwww! Do we sense an Oprah’s Baby Book Club coming our way?

Feeling Blue, Elton John?

Elton John doesn’t do things by halves. He felt like shopping at the Harry Winston store yesterday in L.A., and even though he was accompanied by two bodyguards and partner David Furnish, he obviously wanted to be the center of attention without screaming “Look at me!” So he let his outfit do all the screaming for him. This is color coordination to the max, folks. Blue sunglasses, blue shirt, blue blazer, blue trousers and, last but not the least, those incredibly shiny blue brogues. We’re honestly surprised he didn’t get a blue rinse to go with all of that. Is it wrong that we want those shoes?

Hunger Games’ Elizabeth Banks Describes Her “Outrageous” Effie Trinket

I experienced a tiny bit of job envy when I was introduced to the CapitolCouture Tumblr this week. Can you imagine getting enough access to those movie stills to write blogs about Effie’s gold McQueen peep-toe shoes? I’ll have to settle for having met Effie Trinket herself last week. Oops, #humblebrag. After Elizabeth Banks and I shared a little lament over having given away all our copies of The Hunger Games, I asked her if she minds that we ask her more about playing Effie than, say about her movie that’s out this week, Man on a Ledge.

“I’m really happy to talk about The Hunger Games, especially with fellow fans,” she said. (You see that? We are “fellow fans” now!) “It’s going to be a great movie. Anytime you make something that you know is going to be highly entertaining and is about something, it’s a really special experience and something that I’m really looking forward to sharing.”

Twitter fans asked us to ask her about Effie costumes, naturally. But despite our newfound bond, she was pretty vague on the matter.

Stilettos, Skin And Snow: Estelle, Paris And Others Shiver For Style At Sundance

While we’ve spent some time this week admiring the very practical wardrobe choices of the stars at the Sundance Film Festival, we also had a few SMH moments as we flipped through some pics from Park City. Some celebrities refuse to trade in their typical Hollywood red-carpet style for puffy coats and Sorels. Take Estelle, for instance, who was at the festival for the first time.

“It’s cold! It’s snowy and cold! Why do they do this here?” the British songstress asked VH1 News as we noticed her beautiful, but very delicate, sparkly pumps. “Darling, I have to be fabulous! I don’t want duck boots! I have duck boots; I left them home in New York.”

But if she comes back again next year, she’ll give in. “I will be here in furs, big thick jumpers, boots, and I will not take them off for anybody. Layers are cute.”

Check out all the other stars who sacrificed comfort for style, including Paris Hilton, Kate Bosworth, AnnaLynne McCord and more. And you can find the rest of VH1 News’ Sundance interviews right here.

Miranda Kerr Morphs Into Wonder Woman For Grazia

We get it. Miranda Kerr is Wonder Woman, OK? That face and that body are not of this world. How is it fair that one woman could be an angel and a super heroine at the same time? Because not only do we see Miranda strutting her stuff in her skivvies on Angel duty for Victoria’s Secret all the time, she’s now on the cover of special edition issue of Grazia Australia magazine as Wonder Woman. A couture version of Wonder Woman, that is. Mrs. Orlando Bloom is wearing a bodysuit by Alex Perry. The patriotic issue is in honor of Australia Day which is coming up on the 26th of this month — tomorrow. Light up those barbies and break out some beer. Can we also say that we love the cover line, “Kerr Pow!”

Madonna Chokes Up, And Not Because Of Her Unfortunate Outfit

Madonna attended the New York premiere of her film W.E. at the Ziegfeld Theatre on Monday night wearing … this. Lord knows we love us some Madge, and want her to look kick-ass all the fricking time, because she is so kick-ass. And then she goes and puts on one of the most frou-frou designers of our time — Marchesa. What can we say about those sleeves? Where’s an edit button when you need one? This wouldn’t be half so bad if it didn’t look as if her shoulders had sprouted a mustache.

The fact that she shared quite a poignant and totally unexpected moment with the audience makes the outfit even more galling. She let guests know, “Anybody that knows me knows that when I’m tired, I cry. If I cry, please, just don’t hold it against me. I’m really not a sentimental kind of a person.” But this is Madonna. Her tear glands are probably made of muscle! Apparently not, because the singer went on to reveal a softer side during her speech. She choked up for a moment when referencing her mother, adding, “Finally, I would like to thank my mother. Because, really, this story is the story of a female’s — the journey of a female, soul. And my mother gave me life.” Guys, Madonna almost cried in public. Now we’ve seen everything, And also want to give her a hug.

Katherine Heigl Is Movie Star Glam, Even With Her Funny Red Carpet Faces

Katherine Heigl really brought it to the red carpet of her new movie One For The Money. The premiere took place last night in New York and she swanned in looking completely glamorous in a fire engine red Herve L. Leroux dress accessorized with Jimmy Choo heels and a Ferragamo clutch. She, of course, couldn’t resist the slightly insane red carpet faces, being Katherine Heigl, but even that didn’t take away from how great she looked. The one-shouldered crimson number is reminiscent of the gorgeous red Escada gown the actress wore to the 2008 Oscars. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — works for us.
