9 Reasons We’re Thankful For Lady Gaga

lady_gaga_thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for us all to sit ’round a table of turkey n’ pie and express what we’re thankful for. Naturally we’re grateful for our family, friends, and health, but we’ve also gotta hand it to Lady Gaga for spicing up our lives in 2009. From memorable performances to political activism, Gaga has inspired us all to take risks, stand up for our beliefs, and accessorize with teacups. Here are nine reasons theFABlife is thankful for Lady G’ this holiday season.

9. Lady Gaga’s fashion choices, oft-scrutinized but always eye-opening. When Gaga showed up to a German interview in nothing but black tights and a Kermit-laden coat, some thought she’d lost her mind. When the interviewer inquired about her froggie get-up, she replied “I dress this way all the time because it inspires my life. I dress this way because my whole life is art and my whole life is performance.” Say what you will about her risk-taking style; you can’t deny her influence. How many Gagas did you see this Halloween?

8. Her vagina has feelings too. Despite consistently wearing nothing but a leotard and tights, haters continue to speculate whether Lady Gaga is a hermaphrodite. When asked about the rumor during a radio interview, Gaga comically responded, ”I’m not offended, my vagina is offended.”

See the top seven reasons we’re grateful for Gaga after the jump.

7. She can out-outrageous Madonna. While performing “Love Game” and “Poker Face” at the MuchMusic Awards, fire sparked from her studded bustier. Sorry Gaultier pointy bra, in the words of Heidi Klum, “you are out.”

6. She’s proving to have staying power. We cannot get her latest single, “Bad Romance,” out of our heads and her  visually captivating music video has been raking in the views since its debut two weeks ago. There’s just something so addictive about watching her prance around in 12-inch McQueen heels while preparing to light her Russian lover on fire, ya know?

5. Some carry a flask, some carry a Crunk Cup, the Lady carries a porcelain tea cup. She need not offer an explanation as to why.

4. PS22’s performance of “Just Dance.” While we love these kids singing just about anything, the two sassy soloists in front always brighten our day.

3. While we thoroughly enjoyed Gaga’s bloody rendition of “Paparazzi” at the 2009 Video Music Awards, she really won our hearts with her acceptance speech for Best New Artist, wherein she dedicated the award to “God and the gays.” Amen!

2. Though Gaga may not have been the only outrageous performance at the 2009 American Music Awards, she was the only one who played a flaming piano while donning a nude bodysuit and light-up alien-inspired skeleton. Did we mention that she also sounded amazing? Jennifer Lopez is going to have to do a lot more than just lip sync in her “Louboutins” if she wants to keep up with the pop competition!

1. Gaga wants equal rights! When does she want ‘em? Now! Last month, stripped out of her fantastical outfits, Gaga spoke passionately about gay marriage before 250,000 fellow activists in DC at the National Equality March. It’s nice to see that beneath the wigs, crazy shades, and ever-growing shoulder pads, lies a woman crusading for what she believes in.

  1. Lyge Says:

What most of you forget about is that she being a huge influence in society thanks to what you deem as “reasons to love” her tarnishes children. Look at what you show in your layout (3 and $). YOUNG kids in school singing her music as YET, the same woman we have taught the kids to inspire to will bleed on stage marked up as “artistic freedom”. Ya that is exactly what I want my daughter to want to be in her life. It is pathetic that you promote artists to shock us further each day vs being real musicians. Music is about music and not the idiotic performance for shock value. This does not take away from the artist’s ability to create a great show, but what we have become is what shocks the audience is more important than the music. Look at Adman Lambert! Who heard that horrible song!?! He sounded like crap yet everyone talks him up because of his flaunt of sexuality. What happened to music people?! Don’t tell me it is the same. You have an obligation to society to put music back into music and not moments in wearing Kermit the frog jackets and bleeding on stage…

  2. @Lyge Says:

Get a life! GAGA IS THE REAL DEAL!!!

  3. @tard Says:

Ahhh impressive words..”Gaga is the real deal!” Ya explain to me how she is the real deal. You going to wow me with proof of so many real deals in music?! Musicians come and go with the wind - like your tight pants will be out tomorrow. This crap will be gone next year. But the sad thing is that another artist that tries to over shock the world will attempt to shock the world.

  4. A Says:

I am sure you would perfer someone who puts women in tinie tiny outfits and grinding on men like alot of other artist… and since I am sure you would like examples like britney spears, Jay z, and pretty much any other artist on mtv.Turn MTV/VH1 on and you’ll see what I mean. Art is something special. I disagree, I dont think this was shocking, just dancing in bizzare outfits… if that is shocking to you then.. I bet you are shocked by alot.

do I think this is art to dress strangely or to have blood on stage.. no.. not exactly, but is it different from what is usally shown in our culture..? well yes and that is what our culture lacks. Being different. It is refreshing to see something other than ranchy behavior. Yes, they are hardly wearing any clothes, but is it raunchy? no.

I think this is proof if you dont fit into the very cookie cutter image of a woman then your called a hermaphodite, lesbian, etc. she is a strong person who obviously has her own style if you dont like it and you perfer that cookie cutter image then thats cool too, but then expect the same thing again and again BORING!

    encourage individuality!!

  5. WOW Says:

for me Gaga is unic, her body, her performance, is delicious!
i hope get more from her, im a real i love her music.
    thanks for Gaga!

  6. Oliver Says:

Work it you Lady! Your entertainment makes me Gaga! LOVES IT!

  7. Samantha Says:

    LYGE,

    1. Not only is she an amazing musician who you should further look into before making such hasty, irrational comments, she is also an outstanding performance artist. And if you think her “bleeding on stage” is inspiring kids to actually go and “bleed on stage,” there is something seriously wrong with the way you view my generation. Art is about self expression, and not everyone views all artwork the same as you or Lady Gaga. That’s why the word “self” is a prefix to the word expression.

    2. Really? She’s a bad musician? Maybe you should look up her past performances before she was Lady Gaga and still a music student at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. This girl can sing better than most artists out there, and yet you judge her on her performance only. It just so happens that in her case, the act on stage as well as her vocals creates an amazing show.

    3. A great show is visual. Wether it be style, arrangement of a band/energy, or a set with lights and platforms- nobody wants to see a single person standing in the center of a stage singing for 45 minutes. A show is made through not only talent, but through art- or even just artistic concepts. She chooses to take it to the extreme and thats why people love her- she’s not afraid. She knows who she is and that what she does is well respected.

    4. I’m not a fan musically of Adam Lambert myself, but what was the need to even bring up his sexuality? Did you know Lady Gaga actually spoke out at the National Equality March? Actually, that may offend you on the count of you actually did just bring up Adam Lambert for being GAY which has NOTHING to do with her at all.

    5. Music is changing. Music still has as much talent and energy as it did back in “the day.” Just because what you hear on the radio offends you doesn’t mean all music is like that. Get an iPod, make a playlist, and shut the ~+($$&^)^+($#^~^ up.

  8. Anon Says:

I think both sides have valid points.
At times art is put before decency, and I’m completely okay with that. However, I was a little shocked to hear children singing Just Dance, especially knowing that it’s no longer a secret to kids today what goes on in the “grown-up world,” seeing as they hear all about it through today’s music. I think it’s okay for the norm to be sacraficed in the process of making history, but I don’t think it’s okay for lyrics to become suggestive when you’re looked at as a role model.
I appreciate Lady Gaga more for her style and her individuality, her creativity and her uniqueness than her songs. Her lyrics and tunes aren’t bad, but certainly nothing exceptional. We’ve all heard pop songs about love, love lost, dancing, and today’s cultural issues with a romantic twist before. But we haven’t heard them like this. As Bob Dylan said: we hear what we see! Were Lady Gaga just another pop star, as previously mentioned the “cookie cutter” image, she’d probably fade into tabloid oblivion.
I have infinite respect for Lady Gaga for going against the grain, for not being affected by the trash and gossip that goes on, and for staying true to herself. Now someone give her some decent lyrics, and she’ll be a legend!

  9. Anon Says:

I’d like to comment on Adam Lambert’s recent performance as well, as this has caused such monstrous controversy in the music world.
I am of the opinion that all gays and lesbians are valid members of society, and should have all the same rights as heterosexuals. I’m in great support of them.
But they’re a minority, and should NOT be validated simply because of that.
Adam Lambert is entitled to his sexuality, I’ve got no problem with that. None! I love that he’s open about it, and am shocked by our community for shaming so many homosexuals into lives of hiding and pretending.
However, just as with straight women, there are boundaries. If a straight woman had done what Adam Lambert had done on stage, she would have been rightly scrutinized, and possibly arrested. At very least called names like “slut” and “whore.”
This conflict has nothing to do with sexuality. It doesn’t matter that he’s gay, and I think that people who defend him are afraid to appear “homophobes.”
Gays want equal rights. Let’s give it to them! Let’s be just as shocked by Adam Lambert’s behaviour as we would be with similar behaviour of a straight woman, and let’s refuse to validate it just on the grounds that he’s gay!

  10. LO Says:

    i love gaga :]

  11. Amanda Says:

Why the hell would you talk about Adam Lambert when he’s not even mentioned in this post at all? Wow, what incompetent idiots there are in this world. Gaga is a bit strange, but she does have talent. She is an entertainer, she knows how to work a crowd, and knows the music business. She’s no idiot. She has a voice on her.

  12. angel Says:

ummm to me lady gaga is a little weird duh way she dresses and stuff the best dress she has eva dress was on video phone lol but yes we all have to be thankful for something thank god that i have come this far and the ones i have loss rip for them and i hope many more blessin will come

  13. ben Says:

gaga haha. [bad romance] I Love you miss gaga! let tht !^^^)%!(&^_)@@`_)` loose.

  14. Anon Says:

Amanda, I commented on Adam Lambert because a) he’s extremely controversial these days, much like Lady Gaga, b) because he has the same entertainment ethic of shocking the crowd and showing them something new and interesting, c) because Lady Gaga is in active support of gays, and d) because he was fore mentioned as an example of outrageous entertaining.
And having an opinion doesn’t make me an “incompetent idiot,” in fact I’d say that lacking strong opinions (like you) would certify someone as incompetent or idiotic.
Also, I never said she didn’t have a fabulous voice, because she does. I’ve heard her performances from the Tisch School of the Arts. She’s brilliant.

  16. Natii Says:

I really like lady gaga, because she is fearless. She is sooo spontaneous…and very herself. She inspired me to be my real self…without being scared of what the people might say. Shes bisexual..and she doesnt care. She says it and isnt ashamed. And i think she inspired the world..to be itself. To not be afraid of anything, of the public or anything. I really like lady gaga..A LOT ! And i hope on day she comes to Puerto Rico. So one day my dream comes true, and I could be abble to see her, and see her performances. i think she beeted Britney Spears already ! cause she’s got a real talent. So.. GAGA keep up the good work… !!!! Dont let yourself bring down… by someone.

  17. Amanda Says:

Funny how you thought I was speaking about your post. That’s interesting how you just !*(+(%!(!*!*`#( ume I even cared what you commented about. I never said you put that you said anything about her voice. Get your facts straight before you make yourself look like the idiot.

  18. Zoe Says:

Lyge, GaGa’s music is not intended for children. So if they are listening to it and watching her videos, it is the fault of the PARENTS. Try being a responsible adult rather than shifting the blame to others.

Lady GaGa is fantastic. As a woman who has control over her own career (writes her own lyrics and music, makes her costumes, develops concepts for her videos, etc) and has worked on her music from such a young age, GaGa is a true inspiration to other young women. She encourages people to work hard for their dreams and tells them they can achieve them if they really want it. She projects an image of powerful femininity and sexuality, and is so confident in herself. Her commitment to her art is astounding, as is her love for her fans. All of this with the aim of providing fun, theatrical music and performances with an artistic meaning for those who care to dig a little deeper. What’s not to love?

  19. NATALIA Says:

I DO FEEL THAT LADY GAGA HAS AN AMAZING VOICE AND SINGING WISE SHE’S ON THE TOP OF MY LIST WITH MARIAH CAREY AND BEYONCE BUT OTHER THEN THAT YOU HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SHE IS VERY STRANGE AND HER PERFORMANCES ARE ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS AND A LITTLE TOO EXTREME FOR ME, AS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS LISTENING TO HER MUSIC AND WATCHING HER ON TV SHE DEFINATELY IS NOT A GOOD ROLE MODEL AND I DON’T WANT MY DAUGHTER LOOKING UP TO HER THINKING IT’S OK TO ACT LIKE THAT

  20. Sugar Says:

I personally LOVE Lady GaGa. I love her style, music and personality. She is her own person and she does her own thing in her own way. she thinks outside the box and allow us to see how she view life. Ladies and Gentlemen, that is an artist!!!…Hope she keeps doing what she does and thanx for the great music!

    LYGE: you’re ignorant!!!!!!

  21. gaGaLuv Says:

Gaga, don’t listen to what any of these people heve to say. Music is art and you express it every day in your amazining performances and your unique style. You have an extrordinary voice and your songs make sense to your fans. If you dont like her than keep your radios off because she’s here to stay.

  22. Anon Says:

In regards to the influence Lady Gaga has on children, I have this to say:
I blame nobody at all for the way children are growing up these days. It’s not their parents’ faults; they don’t control everything they see, hear, and experience. They can’t have radios turned off or to Disney in malls and other public places. It’s not the fault of the entertainers; they can’t spend their careers treading around the inexperience of those who are in most cases not their target audience.
So, as in most cases in which a proper culprit cannot be named, I suppose we’ll have to attribute it to society.
And while it saddens me to know that the young children of PS22 are singing, hearing, and probably understanding the words Lady Gaga writes, I don’t in any way blame her for their early development of an understanding of the “grown-up” world.
Maybe it’s part of her role as someone who doesn’t care what other people think of her music and her style. Maybe that includes concerned parents and today’s youth.

  23. change it up Says:

Nasty looking girl, but good songs.

  24. Brie Christian Says:

Lady Gaga stands out as one individual. She represents everyone and she is incredible human beng .Who wouldn’t want to be Lady Gaga? She is a true icon. Her fans are her biggest reward.

  25. Ashley Says:

Why would you just blame Gaga? It’s our entire society that corrupt. I’d rather have my kids listening to Gaga vs most of the hip hop music. Most hip hop music or even people like Marilyn Manson are worse than Gaga.

  26. Nylah Ann Marie Says:

I love Lady GaGa.! Thats my b*tch right there haha nobody should hate on her..for real. There are way more reasons why people should be thankful for her. DONT HATE K? ;-*

  27. jessica Says:

i fell in love with her new song bad romance most of her song kinda stick, the tune is very sticky.

  28. Emma Says:

lol lady gaga is gay herself… because she has a !*@$%_~_#+~+)%$(^ and likes threesomes with a guy and a girl
    so shes double gay!

  29. fey Says:

with art there is always jealousy AND THAT IS NORMAL if you are in a first grade art contest or performing at the soul train music awards. JEALOUSY WILL RISE YOUR FACE WILL BURN, LET IT PASS DO NOT ATTACK EACH OTHER. SOME KNOW THEY ARE A BETTER DRAWER OR HANDWRITTER OR PAINTER THEN OTHERS BUT YOU MUST MAKE IT WITH YOUR SOUL ALSO. VIDEOS ARE FROM THE SOUL. THE WINNER ONLY HAS ONE GIFT………………………….

JEALOUSY. THAT IS WHAT ART IS RAISING THE HEART BEAT OF A FAN OR LOWERING IT WITH THE DAZZEL OF THE PEICE. SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO START TO LOOK LIKE KILLERS.

    ART=JEALOUSY BUT IT IS NORMAL!

  30. Anon Says:

I don’t think I agree with the philosophy, “art equals jealousy.”
I think the best artists are comfortable enough with theirselves and sure enough in their talent that they’re all there is.
When you’re immersed in your music, or your painting, or your writing, nothing and no one else exists. When writing a song, you never stop and think about how someone could take your concept and twist it into something more likeable. When you’re playing your music, and you get that sense of “mine,” that it’s only yours and no one can take that from you, you don’t believe that anyone can top you. Even though you know they can.
Art does not equal jealousy. Art equals individuality.
    Jealousy equals conformity.

  32. domo Says:

Lady gag has an different style from everyone elses and he fashion is super crazy she’s a freak !+&%)~&@_$%+++$+& babbi….if I was lady gaga I would be lucky….and if I can date her…woo

  33. yolanda Says:

I WONDER IF ITS TRUE U KNOW ABOUT LADY GAGA REALLY BEING A MAN SHE DOES KIND OF LOOK LIKE ONE

  34. Jeanette Says:

I think that Lady Gaga deserves to be admired for what she is trying to do with her career and her fame. She is not trying to be a cookie-cutter pop artist, she is trying to put on a show. She has said herself that her art is not simply about her music, and that her entire life is in fact her art. So, LYGE, the zany behaviors and off-the-wall costumes are all parts of Lady Gaga, the persona/fame monster created by Stefani Germanotta in order to express her self better. As far as the influence she may hold over kids…well, until they are of age, their parents have every right to control what they are exposed to, and should do so according to their beliefs and moral scruples. Lady Gaga does not deserved to be denigrated by the peanut gallery. She’s just trying to take her place in pop-culture.

  35. VoiceOfReason Says:

yeah, real smart of her to play the piano, even using her feet. After all, the music business isn’t really about music anymore, its about appearance, and Lady Gaga is the one most powerful example of it. So this is how humanity is evolving huh? Just a few hundred years ago we had musical genius, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach… Just 50 years ago we had The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd. Now we’ve got 50 Cent, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. Its not surprising so many people believe 2012 will be the end of the world, the way humanity is going stupid in so many ways.

  36. Elliot Says:

What LYGE is forgetting is that they have every right to shield their child from anything they don’t find appropriate. If they really didn’t approve, they would be taking measures to stop their child from viewing “offensive” …what happened to raising your children? Teach them the values you want them to have, if you did you job right, you should have no worries about whats on TV. Shock to Lady Ga Ga is like the sequin glove to Michale Jackson, its just another part of their persona. I think of Lady Ga Ga and think of her beautiful voice, not how she dresses like Kermit the frog. If people dealt with their problems more intelligently and didn’t just go after what their afraid of, there would be a lot less arrogance and intolerance in this country…

  37. M Says:

Have you noticed that the most judgmental people also tend to be the most inarticulate?

  38. G@BZ Says:

Stefani Germanotta is the best of the best. She has done things that other artist would never think about and and probably wouldn’t do. She’s unique, she fights for the things she believes, she is (in a way) inspirational to people and she is an awesome singer, both in the CD’s and live.
