Following a suspicious mistrial, John Travolta wants the case against his would-be blackmailers moved from the Bahamas to the US, where politicians shouldn’t be inclined to announce a verdict while the jury is still deliberating. “The original call was made from the Bahamas to Florida, so there is jurisdiction for a trial in the US,” said Travolta’s lawyer Michael Ossi. “The family would like to privately begin their long healing process without the prospect of more litigation over their heads, but we have no choice.” Defendant Pleasant Bridgewater was a popular Bahamian senator before her arrest, adding to the intrigue over the mistrial.
Quite relatedly, Bahamian politican Picewell Forbes was in court today to explain why he shouted “Pleasant is a free woman! God is good! Pleasant is a free woman!” at a rally despite the lack of an actual verdict. While authorities are concerned there was a direct leak from the jury, Forbes claimed he was only repeating a “rumor” going around the event. If this case does go stateside, nobody say anything to Joe Biden.
