Maybe this explains why Farrah Fawcett didn’t leave anything in her will to her longtime love Ryan O’Neal: Fawcett wasn’t even buried yet and O’Neal hit on a woman at her funeral. And the woman, O’Neal later realized, was his daughter Tatum.
Ryan told Vanity Fair that at Fawcett’s funeral, a blonde woman approached him to give him a hug and, not recognizing her as Tatum, he said, “I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blond woman comes up and embraces me … I said to her, ‘You have a drink on you? You have a car?’She said ‘Daddy, it’s me – Tatum!’ I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it’s my daughter. It’s so sick.”
The O’Neals have had a famously turbulent relationship, but we didn’t think they were so estranged that Ryan wouldn’t be able to recognize his own daughter. On the other hand, good thing it wasn’t actually some strange Swedish woman he had hit on, the Swedes are so bad at understanding our American funeral pickup rituals. Tatum laughed it off, saying, “That’s our relationship in a nutshell. You make of it what you will. It had been a few years since we’d seen each other and he was always a ladies’ man, a bon vivant.” Ugh, this whole thing is Bad News Bears. [Photo: GettyImages]
