Tourist Trap: Remembering Michael

Since the King of Pop’s passing on Thursday, Times Square has been turned into an impromptu memorial spot for droves of stunned fans, some of whom have been watching Michael Jackson videos on MTV’s enormous television while holding a tissue in one hand and a “Michael R.I.P.” sign in the other. The FABlife‘s Kate Spencer hit the street to talk to some of them.

I can’t stop listening to his music now. My two little boys said a prayer for his family at church. Michael Jackson, you will be missed so dearly. We love you!!!!!

today i layed on my couch for hours watching vh1′s tribute to michael jackson and each song bought so many memories of how much you were apart of my teen years. your music touched us teenagers in so many ways. we all tryed to hard to moon walk just like you. your music and how you imbraced each song and how you put your heart in what you sang it touched so many. you may not be with us in person but your spirit will live forever. may you be looking down from heaven and know that your fans truely loved you. and i hope you find peace in knowing that.. you will live forever in the hearts of everyone that loved you. all around the world. RIP MICHAEL JACKSON

I hope to GOD that everyone in the world really realizes who we just lost and what type of human he was. This man was Great!!! Look where he came from, Gary, Indiana not far from me in Indy. He didn’t have a childhood so he lived it through his music not only for him but for us too. This Man cared for everyone and he showed it day in and day out!!! And over time because he started looking different people wanted to (~^^~**&~!^^`$++ with him and it was messed up, they did anything to try to break Mike and he still didn’t, he continued to live how he lived. The media didn’t like it and tried and tried over again until it could force a man to take his family out of the country. Michael led by example and I feel like if everyone took the attitude he had on life we would be in a much better place. To be honest to everyone I loved Mike for who he was ever since I was young coming up on his musice from the mid to late 80”s and on, Yes I am 25, but I didn’t cry ever since i heard the news because i was still shocked. I’ve been watching his videos on the music channels all weekend and today it finally set in when I watched the Earth Song video, that’s all the proof you need people, let’s get it together!!!!!!!!

  • TSAF says:

Absolutely amazing and God blessed. I am still in much heartache … I can’t stop crying because I blame the media and those who hated him for eccentric behavior caused him to isolate himself from the rest of the world and spiral a downward behavior that ultimately may have led to his death. What a shame? Like his mom said and I always believed “he was a good boy”.

I was getting ready for another typical blah day and I walked out to the living room to catch my 11month old son when I turned to the tv on CNN with the headline “Michael Jackson is dead”. I was in shock, I couldn’t move I just sat and waited for them to say that it was a prank like the Beatles pulled or something, but to my dismay that never came. Over the last couple of days I’ve been watching the videos and people remembering. It seems that it’s just now dawning on people that the world’s greatest influence on entertainment is gone. The man we never thought would grow up…is gone. I’m noticing that everyone is coming out of their shells and taking away the cover of “Michael isn’t cool” “he’s a pedophile” nonsense to celebrate his life. I just think that it’s unfortunate that it took his death for this recognition. I wish he could see how the world really feels and loves him, that not everyone was out to get him. That even during the problems we couldn’t help but love him. We have lost something special, he was a man 10 years ahead of his time in entertainment…with normal imperfections and a very misunderstood life.

First I am very shocked and saddened by Michael Jacksons death. My prayers are with his children and family.

I grew up listening to Michael Jacksons music. I loved it and him. In recent years’ I have heard people calling him a freak and other horrible names. But, after his death all you hear is how wonderful he was and how much everyone loved him. The radio stations honored him by playing his music all day and let his fans call in to request songs and to share their thoughts, which was great. But why do we wait for someone to die before we say how we really feel about them. Why can’t we honor the living as well as the dead. I am sure Micheal would have loved to hear all the wonderful things that are being said about him.

I would like to ask everyone that reads this to find someone in your life that doesn’t know how you really feel about them and tell them you love them before it is to late. If you don’t then you will regret it for the rest of your life.

  • I am still in shock over Micheal Jackson’s death, I feel as though I grew up with him. My sister and I used to watch the Jackson 5 cartoon and just followed Micheal throughout his entire career. My mom bought us every single Micheal Jackson album. My heart goes out to his siblings and his parents, I truly know how it is, may God be with you.

Michael Jackson was a very skilled person with everything he did in life. His singing was amazing and his dancing was breath taking! I’ll never, I mean never forget when he did the moonwalk for the first time. I don’t think that there will be anyone like him ever again! God Bless.

  • Mary Beth says:

Michael Jackson is big part of my youth. I remember playing the Thriller record on the record player when I was a kid and dancing and singing along. I also remember when the Thriller video debuted. I was 6 years old and the video scared me, well certain parts did. I would watch it until he was going to turn into the werewolf then I would leave the room. The zombies scared me as well until they were dancing then I could watch that part! It is hard to believe he died so young!

  • Hannah says:

I love the performance Michael Jackson did with Brittney Spears singing “The way you make me feel” you can just hear the power in his voice. Michael Jackson has helped form generations, he will be missed!

I remember becoming a big fan of MJ when I was 12 years old. I used to get Right On! Magazine and saw an opportunity to become a fan. I sent my application and got back an autograph picture of all the Jackson kids except Rebi. Janet was about 10 yrs old and none of them had nose jobs yet. I still have the autograph picture and will cherish it always. I am 46 today. Rest in peace Michael and my sincere condolences to the Jackson family.

  • We pray for Michael Jackson’s loved ones and will miss him, knowing all the goodness he brought to so many lives, and how hard he worked to be best.

there is no replacement in sight. the world will miss such a talent, such a human being. the fans will miss the King of pop.

  • Tracy says:

I remember watching the Jackson 5 on TV. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
My favorite quote that reminds me of Michael Jackson is:
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single
bit of talent left, and I could say,” I used everything you gave me.”

  • Linda says:

We are conditioned to believe that in this great country we are innocent until proven guilty. The truth is you are guilty as soon as you are arrested, you are guilty as soon as you enter the jail, you are guilty when you go to trial and you are guilty until you prove you are innocent.

In Micheals case he was innocent and found not guilty in a court of law yet in the court of public opinion he was tried, convicted and sentenced. He has been ridiculed and scorned. He was made a public spectacle and humiliated by a very public trial. He was called names in the media and by the public and even now as we mourn the loss of this incredible man the word molestation appears in almost every article or story about him. What a disgrace.

For such a beautiful person who dedicated his life to making people happy and fundraising for children’s charities it must have broken his kind and gentle heart and might have been enough to kill him. I read today that one of his accusers has recanted his shameful allegations – just a little late. When the others follow suit I hope the haters will stop spreading such cruel and heartless gossip about a truly good and kind person who made a positive change in a sometimes cold world.

I grew up watching Michael Jackson perform and sing. I loved him and his music so much that I made sure my daughter experienced it as well. Today, she loves him as much as I do. We are saddened by his death. We will miss the wonderful talents and warm heart of Michael Jackson.

I’m 61 years old and I’ve never watched VH1 until tonight and I’m just sitting in front of the TV shaking my head with disbelieve in regards to THE talent of MJ. Tonight was the first time I’ve ever seen any of his videos. I just hope I’ll be able to buy them all. There wasn’t a bad video in the bunch. I was watching the BET Awards but decided that I wanted to see real seasoned talent; and that is exactly what I saw in watching MJ’s videos. I love you MJ. There will NEVER EVER be another talent that can come close to what you gave the world. God truly blessed you and loved you. RIP

My heart goes out to Michael’s family — the world has suffered a great loss. Michael Jackson’s music will live on forever. “End? No, the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path… One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass… And then you see it. White shores… and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise” God Bless you Michael.
