Bret Michaels posted the above pictures of the facial injuries he sustained after his on-stage accident at Sunday’s Tony Awards. Additionally, his rep, Janna Elias has lashed out at the Tonys over Bret’s treatment. She’s also shed some light on what happened immediately after the incident. Sayeth Janna:
“With all due respect to everyone working the Tony Awards, somewhere down the line there was a lack of communication and the prop should have been immediately halted until Michaels was clear. Sunday morning at rehearsals, Bret was never informed that the descending set piece existed, let alone would be moving into position as he was exiting the stage.
Although Bret was visibly dazed, he remained extremely calm backstage as members of Poison’s road crew brought him a towel to wipe the blood from his face. His only comment at the time was, ‘What the hell just hit me?’ The severity of this injury is not being taken lightly as symptoms from head and neck injuries at first may seem like nothing and sometimes do not present for days. At this time, the full extent of his injuries remain to be seen until all X-rays are back…I find it surprising that a Tony spokesperson would brush off this incident with a comment stating, ‘Mr. Michaels missed his mark,’ with no mention of concern for his condition. If everyone at the Tonys were aware that Bret missed his mark, then they should have been aware enough to stop the set piece from hitting him or at least slowed it down until he cleared the stage. I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minneli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern.” [BretMichaels.com via ONTD]

Liza Minelli, Dolly Parton, and Elton John are legends. Bret Michaels transfers STDS between VH1 and state fairgrounds.
WHY WAS HE EVEN THERE?!
what a pansy. man up & get over it.
Does Bret really think anyone is gonna feel bad for him?
THAT is exactly what I was wondering about…surely the set piece COULD have been stopped when it became obvious Bret was in danger of being hit. That’s just a Tony spokesperson keeping a tight lip in case Bret decides to pursue a lawsuit against them At this point, it really isn’t even about money…it’s about treating human beings with care and dignity. Something the employees/spokespersons at the Tony’s obviously need a reality check on.
When I first saw the accident, I thought Bret was going to become completely crushed…thank god his injuries are (hopefully) not permanent or life threatening
Brett Michaels is a great man, a wonderful singer, I hope he gets well soon…

Glad he’s not so injured that he can’t still pout at the camera. Heal up quick, dude.
@Alya – Look at the size of that set piece please. It is not nearly as lightweight as it likely looks. It weighs a half-ton. Even if they would have tried to stop it when Bret was out there grandstanding, it still would have taken a considerable amount of time – relative to the time they had – to get it stopped completely and thrown into reverse in time for Bret to get under it. Which would then have thrown the schedule for the rest of the performers completely off, as Stockard Channing was ready to come out. Set pieces that are flown in are not the same as a garage door with a sensor. They are considerably heavier.
Also, add in… Bret didn’t just get beaned on the head with it. Watch him carefully. As he was nearing the set piece – I cannot fathom why he did not SEE it – he didn’t just walk into it or have it drop on his head. No, Bret, for a reason I cannot fathom, decided to do a little hippity-hop move and literally jumped INTO the set piece.
His agent needs to stop talking, and Bret needs to man up. The set piece WAS there in the dress rehearsal, that’s what dress rehearsal is FOR. The fault in this does not lie with the people from the Tony awards. It lies squarely on the shoulders of Bret Michaels.
Man up Brett! Boo f***ing hoo. Looks like that was a “what goes around comes around” karma kinda thing. Get off TV, and go rock with your boys and find a real love…not on TV.
It could have been much worse that it was.
