After a twelve day event filled with fashion, parties, and spit swapping, the 62nd Cannes Film Festival came to a close Sunday when black and white drama White Ribbon took the Palme d’Or. The festival’s top honor was presented by jury president Isabelle Huppert to Austrian director Michael Haneke at a ceremony at the Palais des Festivals. Not since Clint Eastwood presented the award to Quentin Tarantino for Pulp Fiction has the jury president handed out the award themselves.

The film, set in a village of northern Germany, follows a group of children who are the prime suspects in a series of crimes.

At the seaside cermony, the director said, “My wife sometimes asks me a very female question, ‘Are you happy?’ It’s very difficult to reply, I find, because happiness is a rare thing, but now I can say, this is a moment in my life when I am really happy.” [Photo: Splash News Online]
