Hit Hard By Economy, Elle Macpherson Is Suffering

Just like castle-shedding Nicolas Cage, supermodel Elle Macpherson is also feeling the pinch in this global economic slump. Yep, Elle is sharing our credit-crunched pain and is only spending her money on essential million-dollar art purchases.

“I’ve been consumer conscious for a while. I’ve traded in my Range Rover for a Lexus and I either bike or take my Fiat Bambino on the school run. My only extravagance is art. It always has a place in my budget. All the artists I love – Lucian Freud, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Tracey Emin, Richard Prince — I’ve invested in,” she says.

We love it when celebrities pretend they’ve curbed their incredibly privileged lifestyles in order to sound like they’re totally “real.” Or rather we don’t love it — we’d actually love some of their cash — but it makes us laugh in a bitter, bitter way. [Photo: AFP]
