Will Anoop Survive Grand Ole Opry Week?

American Idol has confirmed that next week’s theme will be the Grand Ole Opry, with guest appearances from Randy Travis, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. While Michael Sarver is probably delighted, this doesn’t bode particularly well for anyone else—especially Anoop Desai. The early favorite had a rough time last week, mistaking the popularity of his “My Prerogative” for proof that he should focus on high-octane screamers (if you can’t shriek, do not do “Beat It!”). Just when he should shore things up with some smooth r&b—his a capella forte—the producers throw this country curveball his way. Will he continue to stiffen under the pressure, or will he surprise us with his range?
