Danny Gokey looks like a sure shot to make it into American Idol‘s Top 12 after tonight’s elimination. He’s got a strong voice, a great personality, and the recent death of his wife can’t help but tug on viewers’ heartstrings. Sure, he was cheeseball enough to sing Mariah Carey‘s “Hero” last night, but America loves a little cheeseball.
Still, we think what’s really getting him over is that he resembles druggie-turned-Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. Same smile, twinkle, same nervous energy, same gritty drawl of a singing voice…that’s right, they even sing alike! You may have forgotten, but Downey released a less-than-successful album, The Futurist, five years ago. Compare clips of the pair after the jump and your ears will experience some serious deja vu.

Yes, it’s true that they look and sound alike! RDJ actually is a very good singer. The song above doesn’t really do him justice. Everything he sang on Ally McBeal when he played Calista Flockhart’s boyfriend was amazing. Those songs are on the soundtracks for the show.
Danny gokey will totally win american idol this year… no one else can really sing that well…. yea theres some that can sing… just not asa good as danny… and some not good at all!!!! i think adam lambert will go far too cuz he is totally hot!!!!

ugh. adam lambert is so gross, he yelps and screeches when he sings. plus, he’s a hybrid of criss angel and any of the jonas brothers. i hope to god he goes home early in the top 12. he didn’t deserve to go as far as the top 12.
He does sound like him alot, but looks..I don’t really think they look much alike, Robert got him beat big time there.
There is absolutely no comparison. Robert Downey has beautiful large white teeth. Danny Gokey’s are small, yellow and jagged. Robert Downey’s jaw is square–Danny Gokey..more rounded. Robert Downey’s body is chiseled. Danny Gokey is rounded. Downey has a natural charisma. Gokey is awkward and wears different colored glasses to get attention. Downey is handsome. Gokey is geeky. Danny Gokey exploits his wife death to get votes on Idol. That is reprehensible. He can sing–but there are better singers on the show. Adam Lambert’s blows him out of the water. Case closed. How anyone can say Downey and Gokey look alike is astonishing to me. As for “Ashley’s” comments–at least Adam has a look–while Danny wishes he had one. Gokey’s “cockiness” is grating. I ADORE RDJ, and definitely see and hear a huge similarity between him and Danny.
