Sony has gauran-damn-teed the arrival of more Spider-Man movies by paying star Tobey Maguire $50 frikkin million dollars to shoot a pair of sequels back-to-back next year. Confirmations that Kirsten Dunst and director Sam Raimi will also return are expected soon.
As impressive as Maguire’s payday is (though it pales to the almost $2.5 billion the previous movies made in theaters worldwide), the aspect of his contract that has Hollywood talking is the promise of “family time” for Maguire. Peter Parker will have evenings and weekends off during the planned six-month shooting schedule so he can be with his young daughter. And while Maguire has denied that wife Jennifer Meyer is pregnant, this clause would seem to add a little circumstantial weight to the rumor.
Will this unprecedent negotiation become the standard for Hollywood’s most successful mommies and daddies? Or do stars really want to be contractually obligated to spend that much time with their offspring? Either way, Angelina Jolie‘s ears must be burning.
