Citizen Scandal: Grand Theft Auto Saves Lives

You’ve all heard the stories about Grand Theft Auto inspiring young hooligans to carjack, murder and find secret sex codes. But it’s important to not lose sight of the positive benefits the ultra-violent videogame has in our society. If 11-year-old Audrey Plique hadn’t been playing the “M”-rated shoot-em-up, she wouldn’t have been primed to rescue her family from a car crash.

When the Plique family’s car flipped four times before landing in a ditch en route to Diamond, Illinois, Audrey knew she had to get them out of the car fast. “She just knew, from playing Grand Theft Auto. She saw on there that when a car rolls over, it can blow up. She knew that could happen to us,” said her mother, Karen Norris. Whether or not the car was actually in danger of exploding, the fear drove Audrey to escape through the back window while her parents and two younger siblings were still pinned inside. After getting her family free, she helped her father—whose glasses had been knocked off during the accident, find the highway and flag down a passing truck.

If it wasn’t for the lightning reflexes, quick thinking and hand-eye co-ordination GTA provided the young heroine, her family might have been stuck in that car for God knows how many minutes. Yes, some fans may become murderers. But others, like Audrey, become little cherubs of justice. [MyWebTimes]

    Awesome story!

I would’ve been more impressed if the car actually exploded, but still it was interesting seeing someone benefiting from a game and using knowledge to get you out of a dangerous/tough situation.

  • I am willing to bet that this does not become nearly as big a news story as a murder pinned on GTA.

Upon flagging down the truck, she dragged the trucker from his cab, stole the truck, and rammed the first cop car she saw while picking up a hooker on the side of the road.

I can’t believe noone is mentioning the fact that an 11 year old was playing a M-rated game. What are those parents thinking. Take their kids away they are unfit to be parents. It was probably the 11 year olds fault that the car crashed anyway. M-rated games have that rating for a reason. What horrible parents. And shut down the store that sold it to them.

    WRONG, WRONG!! JUST WRONG!!

The rating system is a suggestion of what type of content the game has, it is not binding. The parents probably weren’t the concern troll type. Playing a game rated M is not going to mess up an 11 year old any more than watching a movie rated R.

i think the author of this article completely ruined the story of this little girl. and the first person to mention an 11 year old playing a rated M game is definetely going to burn in hell and for all the comments you guys are really (()@@)`($)@##$+& ing lame.

End of story: younger brothers end up paralyzed for life because of big sister dragging them out of the car and aggravating their spinal injuries.

It always bugs me when people say things like “Yes, some fans may become murders.” Why not, “Yes, some murders are fans”

  • Rossana says:

LOLOLOLOLOL!! This is silly, the girl is old enough to have common sense, what tha F%^%$#$ does this have to do with the GTA games,,,This is a weird note to publish…

And in other news, this random dog saved it’s owner from a car crash. It would not had been driven to do so if it did not know the real danger of having a car flipped over from watching it’s owner play GTA 4. Yet another reason the game saves lives.

Seriously though, I don’t think these games make kids murderers, but I highly doubt they give kids superhuman abilities and common sense. Stories like this are just as bad as the media’s pins on Video Games that murders happen for the same reason.

Take that Jack Thompson!!!! 200 points for gamers and none for you!!!

what bugs me is getting people out of a car quickly after it crashes is a very, very bad idea from a medical standpoint, unless the car is currently on fire there is no risk from them being in it, and you risk massive spinal damage
